Baldur's Gate (Original) Hardcore No Reload Glitchless Solo Run in 43 minutes and 49 seconds

I played BG for years, even though I never watched any playthrough before and I didn't even have an internet connection when I started decades ago. I had NO idea about that gem and the Wizardry ring in the bushes under the Friendly Arm Inn. I was litterally shocked. I had to start a new run on the EE just to see if they are still there... and YES, they are. I feel 11 again.

Wow I can't believe you never knew about the ring of wizardry. I remember when i was 11 and I first found it online. You should really look into the modding community. They have done so much improvements in the game. I'm having a blast playing scs, insane, hard-core no reload. I'm feeling young again playing it as well.

I found some 20 years ago when i played and about 5 years ago i played both EE, it was funny how i still remembered a lot of stuff from 2000, i still have my exported original character, maxed stats .. so much work in it. Today its easy, just edit it. I even learned how to edit in HEX just because of this game and walked around with moonblade and sometimes Horror's fire sword cuz i liked the animation in BG1 .. shame EE removed this effect.

I think the funniest part of this run for me is that Duke Eltan is satisfied with your "investigation" of the Iron Throne building, even though you were only in there for about 2 seconds. A thorough investigation indeed. Good shit 👏👏👏

There seems to be weird stuff going on in this run. He doesn't mention what difficulty setting he's playing on but I'm pretty sure "Hardcore" was to imply the highest difficulty setting. But attempting this myself this route is very difficult and would require the most massive luck possible, especially in higher difficulty settings. This leads me to believe this is either segmented or he's messing with something in the game using a tool. He definitely can't be playing on Max Difficulty. Here's some problems: 1. Larloch's Minor drain is supposed to do 4 damage. It only does 1 damage 2. Montaron and Xzar get about 10 hits, all of them missing. One hit kills you. 3. He gets 3 encounters in the entire game, none of them shooters. Bandits going to High Hedge is instant reset. He travels a days worth several times without any encounter. Very unlikely. 4. He's walking over traps that are supposed to go off in Nashkel Mines and Cloakwood Mines. In Cloakwood Mines he walks right over the trap that spawns Battle Horrors yet no Battle Horrors spawn. 5. At 27:38 he travels from Cloakwood Mines to Bandit Camp, but no time passes. Its supposed to be a 76 hour trip. 6. He gets both Otiluke's Spheres off on the first try without either making any save. This is certainly possible but the fact he only bought 2 scrolls indicates he was confident enough that both would go off on the first spell that he didn't even buy any backup. 7. In the final battle, you can see him detonating the traps in the center but hes not actually moving. You're supposed to walk over the traps, they can't go off by themselves. At the very least this is a glitch which makes this glitchless run invalid. EDIT: So it turns out for whatever reason Larswood doesn't have any travel time and this transfers over to bandit camp. This run still obviously is running on normal difficulty and based on the very favorable RNG and observations of likely splicing this is probably still a segmented run thats definately mislabled as "Hardcore", but its not using hacks like I thought it was.

1) 2:48 larlocks does 2 first, then 1, definitely modded. It's 4 dmg without a save chance. No point watching the run beyond that but I will 2) probably not 'real hits' it looks like they are hitting but montaron only gets 1 attack every 5 secs at level 1, has 19 thaco and 18 dex mage = 6ac so monti has to roll a 13 (35%) chance, same with imoen. I only see 4 real montaron attacks the rest is just stupid animations. Easily plausible with that bad hit chance. 3) Depends how many travels were made, could be luck. 4) 13:48 first trap goes off, uses image to help resist. 14:14 no idea what he's doing there, you can just click the exit without traps going off but it's luck based. Maybe he ran over first trap to see if it went off (if it did he would heal) then do the next two. can literally run through all three if you dont waste movement it's luck based though. Even the trap earlier can be ignored or even hit you twice i've seen before. As for the cloakwood mine battle horror trap, he drinks oil potion + equips speed boots (doubles effect) after the party fight, that makes traps even less likely to go off, I believe only one of the three traps i battle horror? and the other two are skull trap, the speed probably ignores the battle horror check. 22:48 Wonder what you do if drasus resists that save vs breath -1 ? probably leave and come back. 5) HACKS. Also extreme luck to not get an encounter but possible. 6) go and get an editor and look at their save vs spell. He just got lucky yes. Mental not to buy a third scroll when you have 3000 spare gold :P 7) Lol hacked room? no idea what the hell is going on. 8) a bonus one! 40:36 you can summon 2 minions +polymorph self into a slime to get over that wall by the ladder and save yourself a minute, i wouldn't say it's a glitch others would. Pretty sure he used to follow my channel back in the baldur's days , was asking for advice on a solo glitchless run too if it's the same guy I remember. This is why speedrunning is just retarded, you can't know half of whether it's hacked or not because he doesn't stream. If you saw me do ducal palace 15 times in one day and i only ever bought two otiluke scrolls every run and they always went off and never failed you would know i'm hacking but we don't get this information just a random video there ya go

@Daniel Bunting Reloading has actually been encouraged in speedruns (most notably on speeddemosarchive) for "segmented" speedruns, at least before RTA became more popular. Granted if you're segging your speedrun you should ensure most of the easily manipulable RNG is taken care of, and most certainly not _lie_ about being a gaming prodigy completing unrealistic runs in a single sitting or something of the sort. My point being, if he didn't also mod the game, he should have just been honest. The primary entertainment factor is watching the shortest path to victory in these role-playing time sinks, not imagining the player sweating their nutsack off trying to be a hypercompetitive gamer.

Reloading clears the combat log, and the instance where it supposedly happened in your other comment at 27:38 should have a blank combat log. The mouse jumping also doesn't prove the aforementioned as you can simply move the cursor during the loading screen without it showing - hence the jump effect. Edit: That said, I have no explanation for the missing message indicating passage of time so that part remains suspect. I know that traveling from Nashkel to Carnival would behave like that, however those two locations are similar to travel within Baldur's Gate's borders so they can't be compared.

Fixxxer was incorrect in claiming you have to walk over the traps in Sarevok's temple, it's a specific spot that is fairly consistently reproducible in the non-enhanced version - tested it myself. You claim there's a need for more than two Otiluke's scrolls, but when I tried casting them on those neutral NPCs a good dozen times, none of the attempts failed so version differences could be at play there depending what you were speedrunning on.

@@zihlu5481 Those traps do damage to everyone in area of effect, whether they personally tripped the traps or not. I remember Sarevok being quite magic resistant, but that's percentage based so some hits still get through. The globe spell makes the main character immune to those traps entirely.

A buddy of mine still had the disks. Then he upgraded on Steam, so I had to for the online play. I have seen it at Half Price Books, but I bought Star Trek: Elite Force 2 instead. But, I did have the same problem with Skyrim. My laptop BARELY runs the original, and I couldn't find it. Eventually I took it from my son's Steam account, I forgot he had it since he's a PS4 guy now.

not the OP, but its probably because of how the pause system works in the old versus new versions of the game. going into your inventory pauses the game in the EE versions, while they do the opposite in the original BG1. so this lets him cross the map and manage his inventory, such as identifying magic items and arranging potions, without any kind of loss in time.

Big Jon Cash The floor is loaded with traps that can’t be disarmed and will continually trigger, so he just kept setting them off to damage everyone. I think that ones a skull trap spell so you save for half damage? Either way he’s invulnerable because of the globe spell so awesome tactic.
