When your done put chicken wire overtop of the blind it will hold all your erosion matt in place

This is a great suggestion! Unfortunately I sold the blind a couple years ago so I can’t test this out.

Great video. I built one two years ago (2015). For the rain fly material I used 4 or 6 Mil black plastic sheeting I picked up at a big box store (Lowes). Its solid still to this day. At the time I made the construction I couldnt find any erosion control matting so I used Jute burlap sheets. The burlap lasted all of 18 months and I am now in the process of replacing it with erosion control matting. My build has cattle panel built over a framed construction on the ends so my hinges were easier to fasten to the blind. Downside of this construction method is my blind weighs probably 300 lbs with the 2x4 frame on the flat sides and the OSB sheeting. I am currently looking to build another one and watching your video helps me with my next blind build. The next one will be a fully welded construction and frame. Harder to fasten hinges and windows hence why I am looking at your video. Great build, congrats.

Instead of the erosion control mat, I used a "seed germination mat". I bought two rolls at Lowes. It is made of wood wool which is in long fibrous strands and they're intertwined nicely. I think you'd really like it. you can then put the netting over it along with zip ties.

How about using chicken wire over the erosion mat? Sandwich the mat between the tarp/frame and the chicken wire.

Use erosion mats. You can buy this in any city. I'm planning on using that on my new round blind !

For the transition areas (side to top) I would cut say 6 inch strips of burlap and fold over. If the erosion control mat breaks down it would only expose the burlap material.

If you found some 1" black water pipe (usually comes in a roll at Home Depot or any of the big box places) measure how long a piece you need, split it length with a sawzall or hack saw, then slide it over the raw edge of the cattle panel to cover the edge. I am fairly short and have used this technique with short pieces of pipe to put over barbed wire so I don't catch my coveralls when I cross fences hunting. Thanks for the videos. We are planning on making several of these blinds this year!

Pipe insulation on the ends of cattle panels

I sprayed the tarp with 3m 90 adhesive. Then I pressed loose straw onto The tarp. This will give you traction and allow you to stuff it as you wrap it with the erosion blanket. Need a couple of helpers. Mine has thick straw now and is very realistic.

foam padding over the edges of the cattle panel might help with the ripped tarp. those swim tubes from wal mart might work great if you slit them down the sides. zip tie them so they stay in place. this is a nice and cheap set up. I think I will build one myself this winter. burlap tarps are what I think I will use on mine. it will be set up in the middle of the woods so the hay bail design won't work for me.
@brock13618 жыл бұрын
you should try to put chicken wire over the erosion control netting and then get a 8'x16' tarp to put over the bending part and then 2 6'x6' tarps to put o the two sides that go up and down then on the edges it will be 2 different tarps instead of 1. and thanks for making the videos I'm in the process of making a haybale blind of my own, and I've used you video a bunch of times when I'm stuck and don't know what to do. But I did have one question, how did you connect the tarps to the fencing?

Would really be interested to see the third video! For transition I recommend pool noodle/zip ties. Cheap and easy to secure. Don’t wrench the zips down. Just snug enough to hold or it will eventually cut through.
@85krink7 жыл бұрын
Womp Donkey honestly I shot the video and never edited or up loaded it. I've been really busy with school and being a dad and husband. If you would like I can share what I did to improve it (it's been sitting outside for over a year and it is in excellent condition).

Hey man what part of IL do you live in ? I live in central IL about 30 minutes from Champaign IL and iv been looking for videos on building my own bale blind the last cpl months and so far yours has helped me the most. I have also built portable huts on old grain wagons or fertilizer tank running gear before but i think these bale blinds are a way better idea especially with me being mainly a bow hunter but just wanted to say thanks for the info and videos was wondering if you could give me the actual dimensions of the blind like height length and width id rly appreciate it
@85krink6 жыл бұрын
kyle watson I live in Normal and hunt between Peoria and normal. Thanks for the kind words! My bale blind has taken many many deer since we put it out! One of the best ground blind solutions out there in my opinion. I don’t know the actual dimensions off hand unfortunately. If you look at the other comments on my first video I think I was asked for them and they may be in there. If I were to guess the floor is 5 x 6

Definitely not knocking the blind: it’s a great idea. I just want something that I do not have to upkeep each season. Is this something that every blind needs?
@85krink6 жыл бұрын
Carter Mauldin I have found that this blind needs updated every 2 years. That may be because of how I “wrap” it or because we leave it in place 365 days a year. There may be better ways to wrap it and if you had a way to store it it would certainly make it last longer. I plan on redoing mine this spring and I hope to do a video about how I do it.

I know this is a little late, but for the edges for your tarp you should use pool noodles for a soft edge on the tarp.

Id try erosion guard with coconut and them use a glue as an adhesive for the erosion guard to help it stay connected to the tarp.

Some real hay bales are wrapped in plastic to help preserve them. If you got the same type of plastic wrap you could use it to preserve your blind and it would still look like the real deal.

for the door lock you could get one of the sliding metal gate latches from home depot and paint it a tan color to match the hay. www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-Black-Slide-Bolt-15261/202042229 for the netting you can use a spray glue on the tarp and then maybe glue over top of all of it. just give it time for the glue to set and the smell to dissipate.

Hey Man, I just found this video of you're Hay Bale Blind. I wonder if you could use some Rubber Garden Hose to cut length wise and put over the Cattle Panels to give the Tarp and the erosion control fabric a better abrasion resistance, Maybe??? I've done it on some projects of mine and it works. You might have't Buy more Gorilla Tape though. he-he.
