just my .02 but I'd never used OSB or any other board with glue in in the smoke chamber. I think you could get off gassing of the resin/glue over time and get in to the meat. Otherwise, I think it's a great design and build.
@bigbearhomestead3 жыл бұрын
I understand what you are saying, I did do some research before we went and used the OSB, and everywhere we read is that long as we dont go over 220 degrees we won't have any issues. Now with that being said we are planning on replacing it with cedar from trees we mill here on the homestead. Thanks for watching and we hope you hit that subscribe button and rang the bell.

i like your design, however my concerns and question is with the OSB. the glues from plywood or OSB will leach out into the meat.May i suggest using a neutral type wood like poplar or cottonwood planks.
@bigbearhomestead4 жыл бұрын
That is a good point but this is a cold smoker, and according to my research it would have to be over 200 F before the glue would release fumes.

How is air getting to your fire box and how exactly did you build it?
@ciphercode22982 жыл бұрын
@@jacobortwine7063 build yourself a barrel stove kit and use that. You can adjust the airflow and temperature using the stoves draft and damper. I'd think that enough smoke would seep from the smokehouse to keep the fire going ok.

@joelegrand59035 жыл бұрын
Good design, good video. And, as long as it is dry, any species of wood will burn well. Small pieces of plywood or OSB (oriented strand board, aka “chipboard” or “flakeboard”) can also be burned, providing pleasant warmth and cleaning up a mess in the process. In contrast, preservative treated wood should not be burned.
@bigbearhomestead4 жыл бұрын
that is true that is why this is a cold smoker
@jacobortwine70633 жыл бұрын
I have a few questions. How did you make the fire pit? Did you use the whole kit? How is air getting to the fire pit? Definitely would like to know how long cured meat lasts in room temperatures and is it any good? I heard the Indians would use the smoke houses to store there meat for up to 2 years from the lost ways. Dont buy the book its junk buy the way. They got me for over 200 dollars for a crappy book.That's why I'm asking you these questions because the book does not tell you how to build the fire pit. It's almost completely useless. Thank you and have a nice day
@bigbearhomestead3 жыл бұрын
Hello and thanks for watching, sorry that it has taken us so long to answer your question. but let me see if I can help you. We didn't use the entire kit. We just used the door. As far as how we built the fire pit we made sure that we were at a downward angle from the smoke house and just build a square and put the door on it. the smoke will travel up the pipes cause smokes rises and into the smoke house. Thanks for sharing about the book, hope you hit that subscribe button and rang the bell so you can catch future video and updates from the smoke house.
