Baleno tyre upgrade / YOKOHAMA BlueEarth GT / 205/60 R16 / High ground clearance & better comfort

The 55 or 60 denote the height in percentage of the width of the tyre and not 55 or 60 height directly. hence tyres with different width but same height, say 55, will have different tyre width. So the person saying the height has increased by 5mm is totally wrong. The actual height increase is much more previous tyre: 195/55. Side wall height in mm = 107.25mm (195x.55) New tyre: 205/60. Side wall height in mm = 123 mm (205x.6) Difference between old and new = 15.75mm. Gives a very good ground clearance though from 170 to almost 186. The height increase is 15 mm and not 5 mm. Which is too much for Baleno. When there would be 5 people sitting in the car the tyre is going to rub in the wheel well in undulated or bouncy areas. I have made the same mistake in my early days of upsizing. The best upsize for a Baleno will be 205/55 tyres. Which translates to 112.75 mm if sidewall height. An increase of 5.5mm

Did you observe any noticeable fluctuation in your instrumental readings vs the actual ground distance covered..? I understand that MSIL calibrated the instrumentation based on the circumference of 195/55/R16. I've recently upgraded to 195/60/R16 Yoko Earth 1, but didn't see any significant variation in instrument readings. However, 205 mm tyre width with 55 profile or 60 profile should mean considerable departure from the stock tyre's circumference as the side wall height increase means a direct increase in overall wheel diameter & the circumeference. I'd be grateful if you could share your valuable insights in this context.

Sir I fitted Yokohama earth 1 205/55 R16 for my Glanza, with new alloys also. But currently facing issues with steering. I know you can expect steering to become hard, but steering has become lot harder, more than expected. Secondly on cornering I can feel body roll and stability has gone down. What’s your take on this?

Initially i also felt Steering got harder but after few months get used to it and now cant differentiate. I took harder steering as advantage because baleno steering is feather light. Earlier on high speeds i had low confidence level but now its has lot more stability on high speeds and in city usage, got used to it. I had also issues with respect to Body roll due to 60 side wall. But you hv 55 thats not so much increment than stocks. Ur last issue is fender touch on corners. On that part i hv never felt any problem. Its going 2 b around 2 years and tyres never touched. I also faced mileage drop of 2.5 kmpl in city and 1.5 on highways

I think you've increased the ground clearance by 15mm not 5mm, 620mm diameter vs 650mm tyre, 30/2= 15mm

The tyre size which you’ve upgraded is not recommended at all... You are going 5% up... I am still driving my baleno zeta with company fitted Apollo tyres and not having that much issues... My Ido is around 21k and I keep air pressure of 33 psi... Did multiple long trips and Ido not find such big issues. I know baleno suspensions are stiff... You could have gone for 205/55/r16 with the same Yoko blue earth and air pressure of between 32-35 that way you would have limit yourself to 2 % upsize..

@@87senthilkumaran You have 2 options Either you can go for 205/55/R16 or 195/60/16 205/55/R16 width provides you more grip and the side wall will also be increased where as in 195/60/R16 only side wall is increased. The 205/55/R16 makes more sense if you are driving more on highway where as in city ride you can opt for 195/60/R16
