We had a f550 the earlier model from that 1 you were bidding on it was a good baler.upgraded it to f5500 it was a pile of shite so back to the Lely ( welger in massy colours ) far better bales and they are all the same size due to door being held shut with latches

I've been out of farming for a few years now. Prices for machinery and equipment like everything else have gone up something crazy since I quit. I can remember buying brand new Portequip calf creep feeders at the Black Isle show for £450 each delivered home from the H.I.S. Inverness stand at the show.

Had a F5500 and traded it in for a variable chamber baler as I wanted to do 5ft straw bales for less handling, McHale is a good baler but the fixed chamber doesn't pack as tight a straw bale.

Crawford - Simple bodge it fix for your green defender, stuff one or two foam ear defender between the two sliding bits of glass that make up the window - rattle solved 👍🏻

Calves looking well. As for vehicle, I still like my old mini F reg, ling since gone but no fancy computerised xyz. Guess that means Defender over the rest, accepting issues that can be repaired rather than chase electrics / computer faults.

Got a friend off mine who brought a macale fusion 3 years ago and they do about 3000 bales off silage a year and it’s not missed a beat he said it’s a fantastic baler.

Four winds farm have a Kuhn round baler and used to have Newholland!! (lots of problems) they love the Kuhn and do a lot of hay, silage and straw, I think they have now done 3 seasons with it, they have a lot of cattle to bed and they sell a lot of hay & Straw.

Isuzu pickup had a defender 90 and like yourself it spent alot of time on ramps. Japanese comfort and reliability is hard to give up once you have tasted it.

I would go for a Toyota Hilux they’re pretty indestructible as Top Gear proved , Although the Defenders look good but reliability is questionable 😂 your right about the weather it’s been absolutely shocking the only day we had any sunshine was Easter Sunday it was 16 degrees c and then back down to 9 . It’s pretty depressing to say the least but must be worse for farmers and anyone working outside . Good video as always. Take care and stay safe 👍

Have a hilux here going well Have a look at a fusion baler we have a fusion 2 here bale about 900 bales of silage and 1000 of straw for ourselves. It cuts out having another tractor tied up with wrapper and a man and bales are wrapped straight away so less spoiling imo

Mchale V6 belt baler would be better for what you’re doing excellent in straw and haylage. They will also bale wet silage but you have to clean rollers from grass sticking to them.

Defender and as for a baler, Massey/Fendt or Kuhn , I’ve a 3160 Kuhn belt baler and it’s simple and reliable and makes a good bale in everything I’ve tried so far. Not a fan of Mc Hale’s more recent balers.

@ritch195 that's true but then it's 3 people needed or a minimum of 2 . Labour on farms is getting very hard to get over here in Ireland maybe its different in the UK. But I see where you're coming from the conventional baler also is better where your wrapping at a stack . But then at 900 to 1000 bales was a pit not a cheaper option .

@ritch195 hopefully weather will soon dry up to get cattle out to grass and get on with ground work because things are running near a month behind now account of weather . I'd say bigger tyres are a must on all machines anymore.

@ritch195 yes same here over in the west of Ireland. Your in a drier climate up there than down here with us 😁 . We're not in a tillage area but plenty of dairy and the dieing business of beef and suckler cows round here . Numbers of them are falling rapidly mostly gone into dairy where they can .

@ritch195 ya alot of them round surely a good few Massey too . But the fusion has taken over round us here . Within a 6 or 7 mile radius of us there's 4 or 5 fusions it's all because of the help problem . The rest are Massey balers both do a very good job in fairness.

Go for a mchale 660 belt baler, comes with chopper. will bale silage no problem and makes real tight bales of straw with plenty in them

Id buy a fendt or Massey belt baler, or a mchale belt, the old thing of belt balers being useless on silage are gone, they will bale anything, get more in a bale and a better bale. If it’s a harvest like 2022 and it was so dry, a fixed chamber baler won’t be able to bale straw very well because it won’t grip 👍🏻

We are on our 3 McHale baler each one doing over 30k bales. Silage and hay great. But you don't get the same amount of Straw in a bale as a belt baler
