The newer trailers with the smooth interior lining makes it a lot easier to unload. I had an old plywood lined van and it took forever to get unloaded like that!

As a student of history, this channel is another great example of why centrally planned economies fail. Like a lot of commodities, there isn't just timothy, clover, grass, alfalfa, etc. Within in each there are so many grades, varieties, etc. Imagine some buearcrat in Moscow trying to understand and price all that.

LOL my 1st year cutting of my new four grass mix was horrible. We had a drought so the only thing that grew was orchard grass so I had to dock it 50% from the second cutting that looked beautiful.

Love watching your content. I grew up in California and my dad would haul hay down from Nevada. Seeing the squeeze reminds me a lot of those trips. Two Pete's, twin 24 footers, and a squeeze usually took the trip. Back when fuel was affordable enough to bring the squeeze 😂

I have seen a few comments to go digital with load tickets.. what if you simply hold the ticket up to the hay and take a picture of it on your phone. That way you have a “record” of the slip you filled out and what grade of hay it is, your picture can be your back up for if the slip gets lost. Just a thought
@BalesHayFarmandRanch

I’ve thought about that. But we go though over 1,200 truck loads a year, it would get difficult to keep up on my phone. The best would be a barcode system. At the end of the day, it would a full time job.

@BalesHayFarmandRanch
@BalesHayFarmandRanch Жыл бұрын
I’ve been thinking about an iPad. My other problem is, I use yellow legal pads, so does everyone else. Then I set it down and I lose it. But then you can’t “search” notes on pads of paper. I can search on an iPad or laptop. Then I could keep inventories on hand. I don’t know. It’s difficult. It gets so hot, electronics stop working. My phone shuts down often. My camera does too.

@@BalesHayFarmandRanch Do you have good comms across your agricultural area? If so then talk to some people about how to improve your ability to designate hay, send it to the right shed, to sell it to the right customer. UPS, solve the power outages, the right messages get to the right people on time every time. Don't be frightened of the technology, for its significantly better than it was 5 years ago.

I have a question. On your fields you run a Lazer to level everything right. But on you slopes (down worth)how much do you have for a slope? So your water doesn’t go to fast or to slow down worth?
@BalesHayFarmandRanch
@BalesHayFarmandRanch Жыл бұрын
Ha. Great question! We actually don’t change the down fall very much to fight that. There are some pretty “steep” fields. To combat that, we make the area we irrigate more narrow. The steeper the field, the more narrow the area you can irrigate. We’re following the natural fall of the land. It would be very expensive to move that much dirt. In some cases, people have done that. But in most, us, and others do the best with what we have. Some areas are EXTREMELY flat and it looks like a lake when we irrigate.

We decided to offer our Customers some choice. so went Upstate and bought some nice Alfafa........ We almost can't give it away....... Most "Southern horse" folks really have been feeding Hybrid Bermuda grass for years, so they know what to expect.......Pluss economical reasons also play a part........We primarily Round Bale, store and Re-bale, because the bundles going into the trailer for delivery to TSC stores have a better appearance than stored bales or bundles..........Just small time............... For Now!!!!

How many days does it take to get it off the field from cutting? Ours we rake on day 4 and then bale day 5 and 6. We’re lucky to get off in 100 hours or under. Here in southern Alberta. We rarely ever get hay that green here since we grow more mature crops and the dew effects bleaching. Also we used to load 3x4 bales like that into vans but haven’t done that in years

@@BalesHayFarmandRanch ok that’s what we were guessing. There is area around us that are alot worse in regards to that. This year has been a record drought too so pivots and irrigation are the only fields with crops/hay. 10 counties within 2 hours are considered agriculture disaster areas. Tough for us since we run alfalfa cubing plant and basically have no hay to buy or at absolutely rediculous prices now

Can still grow good crops just finished combining a barley field that did 155 bushel an acre and 48 pounds on 116 acres and about 30 acres is underlines we only did a few times this year. Other guys are doing like 10-30 bushel on dryland

Ha do you separate weed hay from high grade I've been doing that for years and my dad says I'm wasting my time but I get a lot more for my horse hay and it don't take long I handle ever bale anyway so it just a matter of throwing it on a different side of the barn.
@BalesHayFarmandRanch
@BalesHayFarmandRanch Жыл бұрын
It depends. If the entire field is weedy, then it’s all discounted. If it’s spots, the stacker separates them and there will be one or two weedy stacks out of the entire field. Then I put those weedy stack’s somewhere else. It’s extremely important to do in the retail business.

I’m not saying what you did isn’t a lot at one time. But is it non stop all day every day? You can’t delegate when there is no one to delegate to. We used to be able to hire people ready to work.
