Today we are going to be harvesting the rest of our corn stalks. I start off by raking to finish off the drying process and make it easier on the baler. Later our custom guy shows up with his brand new New Holland Round Baler! Then the race was on to get the bales hauled to the yard before it was too dark. Overall it was a very productive day. Them old cows sure love the stalk bales. Remember back 50 years ago we would get the cobs at the elevator, that also made great bedding.

I'm betting it wasn't a popular option but John Deere made a flail pickup head for their 24T baler for chopping and baling cornstalks. I've only seen it in a book. Wonder how well it worked and how well it would work for hay or straw.

Kept wondering why he was backing up with the baler, then I realized he was dumping them in the valleys. Sure wouldn't want to head one down hill toward the buildings. Great way to add value to the corn crop.

The next time the Oliver cuts out like that, try opening the gas cap If it makes a whoosh sound, then it's the cap not breathing right. Our M does that once in a while when we're picking corn with it. If it's not breathing, it'll create a vacuum inside the tank and starve the carburetor for fuel. The strange thing about these caps is that they only do that once in a while, you would think that if they were plugged up, it would be consistent. The way it was acting, it's definitely a fuel issue.
@anthonyhengst2908
@anthonyhengst2908 7 ай бұрын
That's what I was going to suggest. Our 88 does that so we leave the cap on a little loose.

Fine sand paper. Clean them points up and gap them to 16 thousands. I have a 1650 myself. Every 2 years I take the carb apart and clean it. Sand country up here in central Wisconsin. Stuff gets in the gas tanks no matter how hard I try to stop it.

What a beautiful day. I like how you all make great use of the equipment for storing bales especially the forge wagons. I do have a burning question for you all: Have you ever considered using a wheel type rake instead of the roll bar type rakes? I have used both and I like how the wheel rakes can combine 2 rows at once and it fluffs the hay better without knocking off the alfalfa leaves, but the roll bar rakes works in tight areas. Thanks for sharing these videos.

I once owned an oliver1650 and I had an iss as you described didn't know what was going on and finally talked to an oliver daeler mechanic and said it sounds like the inline resistor is getting week and about to fail,said go to NAPA store and by a ceramic resistor and put it in line to the distributor, I mounted behind the dash cover, and that solved the problem, no issues after. Good luck.

As a young man and the only farm machines we had on the farm were gas it was almost always was something getting caught in the outlet of gas tank can be hard to get this corrected drain all the gas out and look in tank for trash might even be almost impossible to see might require tank removal and complete cleaning sometimes machines want to run away before quitting something in the carb float bowl will do this also this will require carb cleaning as with carb and choke cleaner and sometimes even more involved you can save old gas if it smells good use a paint filter in a funnel and check for water in gas by using a clean clear jar and leave it sit for a while the water will go to the bottom of the jar get all new gas if it has water some fuel line anti freeze does help sometimes

Good idea to check fuel levels on your way to work for the day ? When different people are using them for so many different tasks . Wouldn't be farming if things didn't throw a monkey wrench in to keep your best foot forward day in and day out ?

Your Oliver is acting like it may have a vapor lock problem. That's when a fuel line is too close to a heat source. We solved ours by clipping clothes pins to the fuel line to dissipate the heat. It worked. You can try it. It won't cost you much and you don't have to tell anyone.
