BALKAN SHOWDOWN in London 🇬🇧
Join me as we go on an Eastern European experience in London England.
We travel to Wood Green in London in search of Eastern Europe and find ourselves in a part of town that is truly Balkan.
We put it to the test and see how the Albanian Burek stacks up against the Bulgarian Banitsa.
We then grab a lunch with Bulgarian Rakia, that had it not been for the prices, would have been as good as in Sunny Beach Bulgaria.
If you enjoy adventure videos from the former Soviet Union and Central & Eastern Europe, then grab your vodka, some zakusky and join me as we visit the Balkans in London England.

Boza is a fermented drink, usually made of wheat or rye (millet is more common in Turkish boza), water, and sugar. The one you tried is with artificial sweeteners and is more on the sweet side. The authentic boza has a slightly sour taste, I can't really compare it with anything else. Also, what you tried is a "street banichka", the homemade pie-style banitsa is much different and a thousand times better (at least in my opinion).
@drerri
@drerri Жыл бұрын
So boza is comparable to kvass? Been to Bulgaria 4 times but never heard of it.

@risingfirebird
@risingfirebird Жыл бұрын
@@drerri Hey, I've just checked how kvass is prepared, and apparently yes, there is a similarity in the technology. However, the grains in the boza are blended, making it much thicker in consistency. Tastewise, I don't really know because I'm not sure if I have ever tried kvass. Maybe the next time you go to Bulgaria, you could try boza (with sugar, not sweeteners (: ) and give us feedback :) Just don't ask them for kvas ("квас") because in Bulgarian that means "leaven" used for making sourdough bread.
@kashonder
@kashonder 7 ай бұрын
Correct. Unfortunately the boza with sweeteners is not very good. After you drink it all day you feel the taste of the cheap sweeteners. It's not the same at all like the old good days.

Well, Slovenia isn't Balkan... like at all... though burek came a popular foreign staple food a number of people enjoy in a few small parts of Slovenia in the same way that the Döner Kebab came to be such a staple food in some parts if Germany (the somewhat sizable number of foreigners who settled from the Balkans and Turkey into those countries). So yeah, it's interesting.

Nah it's not the multiculturalism it's the big corporations that control everything. Who does the guy in a Bulgarian village work for? Himself and his family. Who does a Londoner work for? Probably a big chain store, tech corpo, you name it.
