I've talked about this forever. It's more of an old school or classic golf swing move dragging/sliding the rear foot that you don't see much today. The modern golf swing doesn't do this and also part of why I think the modern swing has more spine injury. Other notable all time great players you can look up are Ben Hogan, Moe Norman(when he was really young), and Greg Norman aka The Shark was probably best known for his rear foot slide. Golf definitely does brace up on the frontside, it's actually where I learned the term from and how to do it properly, although I don't even play ball golf. I often link a video where Lee Travino says, "Get braced up and hit it 310".

Much more of an old school swing, to the point where nothing like this is taught today. We're told to line up both feet parallel to the target line, keep both feet touching the ground at all time, and swing with our back arm being dominant and in control. And with all the power and weight from swinging a club in front of our body, we need to do contortions to make sure we don't fall over while trying to figure out a pattern of movement that is consistent and doesn't have flinching issues and big misses. So many of these problems (and injuries) can go away if we learn to swing like a disc golf backhand. Scheffler does some of the moves, like his back foot for counterbalance, and that's why he's an infinite better ball striker than the rest.

@@jackschultz23 Agree, although there are some that still teach the Classic Swing and I think it's starting to make a comeback. Phil Mickelson switched back to the Classic Swing some time ago after he was dealing with injury and said the Modern Swing caused it. The Modern Swing is so focused on not shifting your weight, they get stuck between the feet and just torque the hell out their body, it's disgusting watching some guys like Justin Thomas in slow motion.

@@seabas22 Justin Thomas's swing is one I bring up all the time to show how bad current swing is, and yet, the media touts it as great and teachers teach his example. Rory's is another for me, but since he's ranked #2 in the world, people think he swings the right way. I'm of the opinion, for now at least, is the classic swing isn't as good as it could be. Couple quick examples are that I don't think there's a reason to line up both feet parallel at address, and I don't think we should be calling a counter clockwise body rotation a "right handed" swing. I think we can sync up much more to the exact motions of a hyzer backhand. I've done that for the last year and made huge improvements, and only getting better. Club golf swings are way behind where they should and could be from learning the backhand throwing motion with a club.

@@seabas22 Could it be because it's more powerful?

@@BlitzDG No, the main argument for the Modern Swing/no weightshift was that it's supposed to be more consistent with less moving parts striking the tiny ball center club face, but even that is debatable if you look at the numbers. The Classic Swing still holds the World Distance Record for a drive in golf competition, Mike Austin 515 yards at age 64, even with old 1974 technology and effortless. All the Long Drive competitors today use a big weightshift, they would all do a Happy Gilmore run up if they could still hit the ball center club face. If pure distance is the goal then it's not much different than Javelin, you want to bring as much momentum as possible while being able to maintain technique.
