I know this is old, but what I do is spot clean any poop I see on the substrate and clean the water dish/ replace the water every single day. I completely replace my substrate one time a month, but some say you dont need to replace the substrate until 2 months. To clean my tank, I use a bleach/water dilution at a 1 to 30 mix (1 ounce bleach, 30 ounces water) and I spray the tank and her cave down and let it sit a few minutes, then I scrub and wash it all out with water. I am by no means an expert on this, but I've had my ball pythons for nearly 2 years now and havent had any problems
@IntenseMomentos3 жыл бұрын
You should clean your enclosure once a month, but if you add isopod then they are no as frequent since isopods eat poop and shed skin, so if you add those then maybe every 6 months

I will add that sometimes BPs will soak during shedding time, so that's why I usually recommend a large water bowl. But if you don't want to have a large one, you can easily just amp up the humidity by 5%(too high can cause a URI) to help with that. :)

Thank you for such an awesome video once again! I have a quick little story I would like to tell you and see what your thoughts are on it (anyone else who may read this comment). So, my son and I went to a big pet store today and I always go in and look at the reptiles first thing. I just love doing that! That is how I was able to hold a Ball Python for the first time. Anyways, I was paying close attention to the baby BP they had and I was looking at the thermometer and Hygrometer and I notice that 1. the little guy was on aspen bedding and 2. the humidity was registering at about 5%!!! I was furious!! I had them get me the manager and I told them the humidity was way off and it needed to be about 55% to 60% and he said to me "oh it's not in there yet". Really?! They are going to put the little guy in there with no humidity on aspen bedding! Now, please correct me if I am wrong but aspen isn't the best for them and the humidity should be up before you put them in there right? Every pet store I have gone to I make it my own thing to go look at the snakes and it seems that none of them ever have it set up properly and they look like they aren't fed well and are low energy. I just want to buy them all and take care of them because they just sit in those glass tank like things and look so sad!! It breaks my heart tremendously!! What do I do? Is there anything I can do? I mean I can't buy every snake in the stores and if I do they will just bring in more then it will be a repeated cycle!! **tears** HELP!!

I have a question and I'm not sure if you've covered it or not- How do you transition your BPs from mice to rats? some people really struggle and I'd have no idea how I'd do that.
@JossersJungle6 жыл бұрын
I've never had any issues with it. I just feed it same as I do with the mouse :-)
@brendadavis49236 жыл бұрын
OddSocksQueen It depends on of you feed live or not. I personally do because that's all she will eat and that's the only way I have access to appropriately sized feeders for her. She eats perfectly when it's an appropriately sized, living mouse, but outside of that niche, she wants nothing to do with it. I just switched her 2 days ago, but what I did was when I bought the feeder, they scented it over. They took the rat, put it in a container with dirty mouse bedding, and by the time I got home, it smelled like a mouse so she ate it. If you don't feed live, I guess you could buy live, follow the same process, and then prekill (?). If you feed f/t then I really can't help.

Thank you so much for your videos! How often should you change out the substrate? Specifically when dealing with waste, and having coconut substrate vs. newspaper. With the coconut substrate, how will you see the waste and know to spot clean? Or should you full on clean the tank and replace it every few days/week?

Hi Josser, Angel here, I have a question, can a ball python stay stress free without any contact from another python??
@JossersJungle6 жыл бұрын
Hi Angel, yes they most certanly can. Ball Python are solitary animal and unless you are breeding, it's best to keep them seperated :-)

Overhead heating is far more natural and beneficial than heat mats. It’s best to use a halogen bulb connected to a dimming thermostat (best option) or Arcadia’s deep heat projector.

I’m getting my first ball python tomorrow! I ordered her online so I’m really scared that something may be wrong, but I called the breeder so I could speak to him and ask all my questions! Let’s just pray to god that he was honest with me and the snake is completely healthy and well 😊

ik this was a year ago but did it go well?
@lulunanita4 жыл бұрын
@@tatum4970 nooo not at all lol! The ball python was very ‘aggressive’ the first 6 months. She kept biting me and hissing. Now she’s a bout a year old and she’s better now. I think the transport was just very stressful for her. I bought another snake at a reptile show, and he’s just the sweetest, very calm. I took him home in a special bag so he wasn’t in a dark transport box for a day....

What temperature should the thermometer read?80-100? Should I spray the snake? Or spray the habitat? Or should I go and buy a humidifier? I was going to to buy a heater because it’s getting colder downstairs. Think that’ll do? She seems happy n all but she only stays in her one warm hiding spot so idk if she’s always cold or just prefers darkness
@ThinqAJ4 жыл бұрын
I try to keep mine at 88-93f and that's been working well for my snakes. I also spray the snake and the habitat once to twice every 1-2 days and that helps keep humidity up along with a large water bowl :)

what about probes? do I need them for the temperature of the ground and where can I get them?
@fionashepley4785 жыл бұрын
You need a thermostat (I power is a good cheap one on Amazon), which has a probe. The heat mat plugs into it and it prevents the mat from overheating. This probe can be taped underneath the heat mat. Then you need a digital thermometer of some sort, whether it's a temperature gun or one with a probe. If you want to measure the ambient temp you'll need one with a probe. Measure the warm side surface temp with a thermometer inside the enclosure. You can find digital thermometers on Amazon and at pet stores.

Can you tell me where you got the natural-looking hide? I’m like you when it comes to the thing about wanting it to look nice and don’t particularly like the black square hides, but they seem to be all I can find aside from the tan Exo Terra ones (which I think I spotted on the right there)
@imsobored82154 жыл бұрын
Do you have a link to that rock hide that you used? What brand/what size is that?
@critterc0rner2 жыл бұрын
I believe it’s from trixie and it’s a size medium, but several smaller brands sell “knock off” versions which vary in colours and quality you can find them anywhere, just be mindful that some parts are sharp and needs to be filed down with sandpaper. One of my blue tongues ended up with small cuts on his nose trying to dig under it.

Do you happen to have any videos or possibly just some advice on heat lamps and bulbs with the wattages? Specifically for a 20gal terrarium I have for my bp Nagini. And any references you may have on what to purchase. If so I'd greatly appreciate it and am very grateful for your advice on your videos for a first time owner!
@fionashepley4785 жыл бұрын
I’d use a heat mat connected to a thermostat. Regarding overhead heating, a ceramic heat emitter or deep heat projector would be better than a light. How long is your ball python?
@clausing135 жыл бұрын
@@fionashepley478 She is 19 inches. I have a Zoo Med Ceramic infrared heat emitter that's a 60W. It says it is for 10 to 20Gal but its says to use a wire cage clamp lamp and it's not for use with deep domes. Which a deep dome is all I got till I can go get a wire cage.
