This was very emotional for me. I was lucky enough to be born in Australia in 1944 and my father had a wonderful collection of recordings including some of Richard Tauber's most popular songs of the time. We also had the sheet music of his classics with the famous photo of him wearing his monocle on the front cover. My father’s family was originally from Germany and all played the piano or violin and also sang, so my childhood was filled with music of all kinds. I am so grateful. Those times were unique… sadly never to be repeated. Thanks Dad. 🙏

Wonderful documentary from long ago with lots of famous faces. The great Tauber was a fascinating man. He is buried in Brompton Cemetery, just up the road from where I live. There are always fresh flowers on his grave, even now.

I read that when war was over and he found out many of his Friends had died he became very sad and got sick with cáncer,. And he died in 1948,. He was an outstanding singer and a warm hearted human being, I Will never forget him, never.

The only video of Nancy Brown, who appeared with him in Old Chelsea. She and her husband, Albert Arlen, wrote the most successful Australian musical of the late 1950's The Sentimental Bloke.Tauber toured Australia in the days when rail travel was slow and not very comfortable

Richard Tauber passed away long before I was born but I listen often to his recordings. What a truly wonderful voice he had. He was unique. Thank you for uploading this fascinating insight into the man.

The first comment from Bergner, my god what a snob, to speak of Lehar’s work in that way. One thing I can’t stand about opera sometimes, but what I love about the truly great singers like Tauber who possessed none of it.

Voix exeptionellement superbe!

We often think about a great performer like this from a very long time gone meanwhile. In reality not that far away. Imagine in comparison that Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby were contempories , Benjamino Gigli and Jussi Björling were on their highest levels as opera tenors and that Snowhite from Walt Disney arrived , soon to be followed by Pinokkio and Dombo. Perhaps should we even see Jim Reeves , Bob Dylan and Elvis Presly as belonging to a rather nearby next generation timewise.
