Don't worry, you're gonna be a lovely mom because you're already extremely empathetic and get excited to teach people things you know. You're gonna do great. ❤

Josephine, NONE OF US ever knew what we were doing. We all had to figure it out. Even if we had our own moms or grandmas around to help, we each had to find our own way, our own rhythm, our own style. You're choreographing this dance, and it's going to be beautiful chaos. Roll with it. You're going to be amazing.

You’re so right! We tailor our parenting to our individual children’s needs. They all need different things in different ways. You will learn and adapt as you go. That what we all do. Don’t worry Jo, you got this and you’ll be great 😊😉

Keep the diaper byag/backpack packed always. Pick a spot and keep it there. When you need to leave and are running late it is one less thing to worry about.

As a non-parent I've also heard from several of my parent friends to keep several backup diaper bags (at least one in the car always and, for some parents, one in their office)

I agree. I was also told to put the books back on the bookshelf. Though helpful they generalize everything & no two babies are the same. Follow your child’s needs not what the book says.

I raised 3 kids that are all very different from each other. The best advice i could give a new mom is pay attention and get to know your child. They enter the world with a personality. As a parent, you will mold and shape the person your child will become. But you can't override the person they are naturally. It will be hard. And wonderful. A little like learning the art of ballet. ❤

This is such beautiful and perfect advice. I feel this sooooo deeply in my soul & not enough ppl understand it I fear. They r their own person from the very beginning. And if you can find, cultivate, and play into their passions, it opens up the world for them. And tbh i have learned just as much from this little person as they have learned from me.

I think the best mum advice for Josephine will be for her to take advice from her own Mum. Josephine always seems such a lovely person, her own mother was obviously doing things right!

I really feel for empathetic, sensitive women who become new moms, struggling to know what to do. It seems that everyone has an opinion and it's rarely complimentary. Caring for another human in that way seems SO HARD, especially with judgement coming at you from all sides. Assuming that role is so profoundly life-changing, and I hope all people will forever have the choice as to whether they want to be parents or not. Congratulations to you! It could never be me! DINK-LIFE!!

Being a mom is definitely something that you learn as you go. It's, of course, good to get advice and wisdom from experts and other moms, but every kid is different (I have three kids and they all need different mom-styles from time to time). You'll make mistakes, you'll have things you wish you could do over, but that's okay. Every mom feels like that at some point. You already care so much, I think you're going to be amazing! Congratulations!! 💖

My advice as a mom of an 18 year old and 16 year old twins is this: GIve yourself and your partner grace. There isnt a book out there that will have all the answers. Everyone is so different that yall are going to learn from trial and error of what works for yall. Giving each other and yourself grace in this time helps. Your hormones are going to be all of the place and yalls emotions are going to be all over the place. Its not you versus him when stressed/tired. It is yall versus the problem. You got this. Even on the days you think you are a failure, YOU GOT THIS.

If the partner isn’t (you used him/male pronouns but partners in general) competent, pulling their weight and involved, than unfortunately it might be you versus them…and new mom might not even know it🙈the load will be very full though. I wouldn’t wish any new parent in the world have a partner like this, though I’ve unfortunately witnessed it many times. Grace doesn’t work with those ones sadly.

Congratulations Josephine! Enjoy your pregnancy and fix memories in your mind every so often, they grow up SO fast. A physical baby book can be a memento passed to your child. I wrote letters to my babies as they were growing up and saved them, I pull them out to read every so often now that they are older.❤

So the good news is that initially you can't mess it up too bad. Just keep the baby fed, warm, reasonably clean, etc. etc. It's not like when they're a teenager and you're worried saying the wrong thing is going to mess them up for life. I really enjoy these talks with the dancers - the one with Sasha de Sola was the one that originally got me interested in your channel (and got me a lot more interested in ballet). I hope you'll do some more of them.

Best mommy advice I ever received was never to be afraid to ask questions about your baby or whatever your baby might be doing that you may not be sure about, ask your mom or other moms or dad’s you trust, or even your pediatrician, don’t underestimate the power of the father/partner, tap your partner if you’re feeling overwhelmed and don’t hold your emotions inside, you’re gonna cry frustrated tears and tears of joy, as a grandma taking care of my baby granddaughter and a grandson on the way around the same time you’re due, you got this dance mama and partner 🥰I’m a mom of 5 sons, a granddaughter and grandson on the way and I have confidence in you ✊🏽you already have the discipline from dancing and running a business and social media channels, you definitely got this 🤗🍼🩰

Congrats! So far I've found quick and easy things reduce a lot of stress: ready to go freezer meals (bagged and frozen bulgogi is super easy to toss on a pan and eat), an always packed diaper bag with a little bell on it (so you don't forget it walking out the door), and a bottle steamer to clean bottles in a pinch. I've got containers for toys hidden all over the house so I don't have to walk back and forth all the time. And a hand steamer for clothes if I can't get to folding right away. Hope this helps! ❤

I got the best advice ever from the midwife when we left the hospital with our oldest son (when he was a newborn): Listen to advice you get from people around you, but remember that you are the expert on your baby. My husband and I took that to heart and we have talked about that so many times that it’s the best advice we have ever received. Every child is different, and situations are different, and families are different. So what advice fits in a certain situation will vary. Follow your intuition. We all start as newbies, and as our babies grow, we grow as parents 😊 It’s an organic process. And the unconditional love allows for mistakes on both sides ❤❤❤ Fortunately, we are all human ❤❤❤ Take care, and take time to breathe. You got this ❤❤❤

My top piece of advice for you Josephine is: plug your ears to EVERYBODY'S advice! Every woman since the beginning of time has their own journey through pregnancy and after your birth. Don't listen!! Even though you're scared, (I get it! So was I!) you'll be on your own journey through this time of your life! Enjoy it! Even the scary times! Seriously! And when women start talking about their labor and delivery? Plug your ears and tell them to please be quiet about that! Your experience will be your very own. Trust me! All it will do is, it will scare you even more! (Been there, done that!) Congratulations and have a WONDERFUL pregnancy and birth!! 🥰

Congratulations! You're gonna be just fine. I never even babysat babies as a kid but my instinct kicked in immediately. I suprised myself at how much love I had for my child, how much energy I had even with the sleepless nights. Breastfeeding was a breeze after the nurses in the hospital showed me the techniques and I nursed for 18 months. My oldest is now 32!

I’m a dad, and the best advice I can give you is “this too shall pass”. I have a beautiful daughter that was a nightmare when it came to sleeping through the night. It felt like it would be an eternity before I would ever get a restful nights sleep. Now she is six, and sleeps just fine. But the anxiety of knowing that you aren’t going to sleep soundly is awful, but everyone eventually learns to sleep. Just be patient. We only have one child, but I would do it again in a heartbeat because I know now that if we had another child, I would eventually sleep soundly again.

Im so excited for you Josephine! I am not a parent ( and I have no desire for human children in the future, but I am definitely leaning towards becoming a pet parent), but as someone who has studied child development and psychology, I will give you some pointers that I think are key from the things I have studied in school and from some things my own parents have dealt with raising my brother and I. 1. If your child is screaming at the top of their lungs at 2 am, you have done every possible trick you can possibly imagine to get them to settle down and you feel you are going to do something you will definitely regret ( something that I think is a bit too triggering for youtube comments). Put them down in their crib/ bassinet and leave them alone for 5-10 mins and do a brief meditation to calm your nerves. This goes for your partner as well, especially if they have also been trying to help calm baby down too. 2. If you feel you are alert enough to drive, put baby in their carseat and take a spin in the car. I was that child who actually managed to fall asleep from a good drive lol 3. Accept any help that is offered to you from your village, regardless of what it is, bringing prepared meals for you, doing chores to maintain the house, and of course, spending an hour or two with baby so you do not neglect your self care, like showering, maybe catching up on episodes of your favorite show just to decompress from mom life. You cannot be a good mom if you are not taking of yourself 4. Here is one no parent wants to think about, but as my brother and I both autistic (he needs way more help than I do in life, but I have my share of struggles as well), if your baby is either a) not reaching certain developmental milestones in a reasonable timeframe or b) developmental milestones have been reached but baby is starting to MAJORLY regress, speak to your pediatrician immediately to make arrangements for testing. Many developmental disabilities are much easier to manage when a diagnosis is made very early in a child's life. That being said DO NOT BELIEVE ANYTHING FROM THE ANTI VAXX COMMUNITY THAT VACCINES ARE THE CAUSE OF THESE DISABILIITES. GIVE YOUR CHILD ALL THE VACCINES AS SCHEDULED WITH THE PEDIATRICIAN .

DON'T LISTEN TO ANYBODY'S LABOR HORROR STORIES! Your experience is unique and will not be the same as anyone's. Not only that, but your next pregnancy is not likely going to be like this one. My best advice is DON'T LISTEN TO ADVICE! What your friend's grandmother did for teething is likely to be out of date at best and harmful at worst. In MY mother's day it was common to put whiskey on teething gums. Now we know it burns and that alcohol is is harmful. So don't. But DO talk to your friends. Community is very important for new mothers. DO talk to your doctor. (S)he's used to momquestions. DO spend as much time with this little stranger as you can. Your kid will have a language all its own and you will learning it very quickly. Finally, EVERYBODY IS A BEGINNER WITH EVERY SINGLE BABY. No two babies are exactly the same---not even twins. What worked with #1 won't with #2 and might or might not with #3. Nerves are normal. Feeling lost and confused is normal. Some depression is normal. Even the abnormal is normal. Congratulations!

At my sister’s baby shower the mom of a family friend told her “don’t worry about the dishes always being done, or the laundry always being put away, or the house always being spic and span. Remember the most important thing is that your baby is cared for and loved. Don’t let the little things overwhelm you”. Or something to that effect. I thought it was wise. Just remember that if your baby is healthy and loved then you guys are doing a great job! 😊

Oh, Josephine, so much love goes out to you and your future family! My advice is that NOBODY will be a better mother to YOUR baby than you. Trust your instincts. (Trust science, too, please!) Babies are much more resilient than you think, and teenagers will hate you no matter what you do, at some point. So you do your best, and you will be a wonderful mother. and for you especially: Don't focus on their feet too much. They will look like little dinner rolls and you will want to nom on their adorable piggies no matter how stinky they may get. I'm so excited for you! There is absolutely nothing in life like expecting and welcoming your first child. It is all-consuming and no regrets whatsoever.

Congratulations Josephine! I only have a few pieces of advice. I have been a Level Four Neonatal ICU RN for over forty years. Use water wipes for diaper changes; they are fragrance free and very gentle. Aquaphor is wonderful for skin protection with every diaper change. Make sure that you have a separate supply for diaper changes versus use on other areas of the body. Finally, if you are planning on breastfeeding, it is the milk that is important, not the method used for feeding. Babies are flexible; having a supply of frozen or refrigerated milk for your partner to feed will let you get some rest. Moms know their babies best. Babies know their parent’s voices. Follow the American Academy of Pediatrics safe sleep practices. Take care and best wishes. I really enjoy your channel. I have been a full season subscriber to San Francisco Ballet since the early 1980s. It has been so nice to see dancers have children and return to the company over the years.

The best general advice I can offer, is to relax and breathe. Rearing babies is like the peace corps, it’s the toughest job you will ever love. Just remember, when you are at your at your wits end nothing is working, it is perfectly okay to put them in the crib and go to the far end of the house to regain your sanity. Much love to you💕

I’m not a mom myself (and don’t plan to be), but as they say it takes a village to raise a child, and I consider myself very lucky to be part of several kids’ villages. So my advice would be to build the village that will help you raise your child and don’t be afraid to count on them. You don’t have to do this in isolation with only books and judgy strangers to guide your path. Lean on your family and friends, neighbors and coworkers, your child’s teachers and (adult) babysitters/nannies, and fellow moms. You and your child will both benefit from the love, support, and guidance of the people around you.
