Coming back from a life break after being Pre Professional-this definitely resonated. Being kind with yourself and allowing yourself to find the joy again is truly key IMO.

You girls are lovely and natural to listen to (I’m 66 & nothing to do with the ballet world but love hearing about or watching class/rehearsals/life as a dancer/schools etc ❤ Update, I’m 67 now & have been doing 55+ ballet for quite a few months & absolutely love it 😊

Of course, there is another side to the issue of injuries in a company. That is the cost and revenues. It is not economically viable for most companies to have injured dancers off with injuries, then coming back with a slow barre at first, building up over months, with no performances. Only the top companies have the budget for that, and I expect, only for dancers at the top of the pyramid. That dilema, of course, plays into dancers' tension and rushing back too soon.

Great talk. I've enjoyed a lot. And yes: dancing as an adult without any pressure (almost 😉) with your colleagues/friends, is one of the best experiences you can have ❤. Don't stop dancing, at any age!

You two are sooo funny when your dancing at the beginning and end. It always cheers me up. So happy both of you have gotten healthy again so you can dance. I used to dance as a kid. Had to choose between Pointe and Figure Skating. I always missed ballet. So now I'm back dancing ballet and loving every second of it.😊🌻

❤thank you so much for this episode . I too suffered from pain medication overuse when I was suffering from Achilles tendinitis on both of my feet. No one really corrected me to work on my core and avoid curling my toes when I point so I was extremely vulnerable to injuries . I’m so glad to hear that my mental thoughts are universally shared and validated . As an adult I enjoy taking ballet classes to fulfill my soul while I study to be come a register nurse . There’s nothing like taking ballet 🩰 to feel beautiful and strong 💪

For me, initially with my injury, pain killers were essential and prescribed. I wasn't taking them to be able to take classes. I was not able to do any classes. It was constant pain. If pain killers are essential, it has to be within or below the recommended doses for a short time. For a while I was above those recommendations, but now below. I believe, for Ibuprofen it is no more than three extra-strength per day for a short time (for adults), and preferably less. It is important to be able to gauge the real pain when doing the rehab exercises. If one can get by without pain killers, obviously that is the way to go. Full disclosure: It has taken a year to get a diagnosis that has any relationship to my pain - and still lots of questions.

Ibhad this same alignment on my working side where my 2nd metatarsal dropped, i think the fascia tightened so much it pulled it out. These cascade injuries are so disheartening to keep persevering because doctors and physios cant understand what dancers know about their alignment and range of motion.
