I find it also helpful to develop hobbies that do not put excessive stress on the body (reading, gardening, playing a music instrument, etc.). I do them on my reset days or when I have injury and have to rest.

Thank you, this was really helpful! May I add that hydration is also critical? I’m so glad you are promoting eating as a priority and necessity! You have a very pleasant speaking voice by the way. Thanks again!

To be a ballerina you have to be very driven, extremely focused, neurotic and more than a little crazy. Often, you have to be completely self-centred. You won’t make it otherwise.

Focusing on ones job never hurts, but neuroticism and self-centredness is a myth. There are real life examples of calm and collected dancers out there. If it wasn’t doable, there wouldn’t be thousands of ballet schools around the world, yet people make it as ballet dancers again and again.

@@PettyBlue1 My comment was sort of tongue-in-cheek and more directed at PRIMA ballerinas, current and aspiring. Try partnering one of them and see if that changes your mind (more tongue-in-cheek). In the end I do agree with you - for every zany, crazy, outrageously bitchy prima ballerina in the world there are scores of prima ballerinas who are kind, empathetic, mindful, and considerate of their colleagues. It’s the crazy ones you really remember, and learn to avoid.
