This video covers how to fit and look at a dress for a ballroom bustle. I show how to do the whole layers as one unit and how to separate the layers as well.

Great video!! 50+ yrs seamstress here. You have given a lot of detail which is important. Most online videos do not get the ctr bk, the side seams, etc lined up 1st. A ball gown w/ very full multilayers ( I’m working on one now; 10 layers), In these videos, just seem to grab a hunk of fabric pull it up. I’m sure they don’t do that for their clients gowns. If you’re person learning how to do this, there’s a 100% chance once you get all that anchored together it will not be even … pulled up it won’t catch all the layers or they’ll be twisted. You’ld probably never know it while it’s in a bustle but when it’s drop down if those layers are not lined up…. It’s going to be a nightmare. Again great video!!❤

Oh my goodness yes... you have to line up the layers or you'll be spending so much time later getting it organized when you could have just done it on the client.

I’m glad to see the gown is up off the floor after all is pinned in place. This is how I like to do mine. Why bustle at all if the gown is still dragging on the floor. I really like how you show the step by step. I’ve had some really hard one to bustle and got frustrated because I could see in my mind what I wanted to do but then it didn’t work. It takes me forever to do things because I’m so particular with everything. I always show someone in the wedding party or mother how to bustle it and when I see the picture from the reception they never look the way I show them. This is upsetting also. Thank you for making it as simple as possible.

Oh my gosh yes and yes! I prefer to get everything off the floor and I always do a full bustle tutorial. I get so sad when I see dropped points in the dancing photos

I still measure almost every time, even on a poofy dress. Those measure are my starting point, then I eyeball adjustments. Then safety pin all the points, have the bride try on again, then sew it in

Yes! The key is to be consistent in whatever method you use. At the shop I'm at we aim for 1 fitting and 1 final... so I need to get as much information and confidence in my pinning as I possibly can. I do much prefer a second look myself.

Thank you so much for this great video. Would you show exactly how you would sew it. Example the ribbon method or one method would look like from the inside?

Hi … me again. Do you have a video for a bustle on a multilayer ball gown with a full/ longer train? They are often a 10-12 point bustle due to fullness & layers. Like you say we all have our way of doing them but never think you’re above learning a great “different“ way!!

What’s the best way to hold them up, would it be a mixture of ties and snaps. Will sewing snaps not show on the outer fabric one stitched on. I know you can hide the snaps on the seams but what about the snaps that need to hold up not much of the fabric that’s not on seams

On a ballroom I generally do ribbon anchors on the lining of the train and and make loops at the train edge with crocheted thread loops.

I keep bustles as simple as possible because I’ve had brides tell me later they were done up wrong by the bmaids. 🤣 I call a ballgown bustle one point up at the back. A simple pick up the single stitch crochet loop goes up to a hook or a bridal button A Victorian bustle is an under bustle which is tied up underneath at points with ribbon. I once did a cathedral length bridal gown with 4 tiers and 14 ribbon tie up points. It was gorgeous but a pain. I numbered the ribbons and the bride thanked me later 🤣 But most are just 1-3 points hooked up to the back of the gown. You can do 5 or more at about 23 inches off the floor and make it look like a mermaid gown. But you need a longer train Just depends what the bride likes ♥️

Oh yes the brides choice reigns Supreme at the end of the day! I do include a full bustle tutorial in hopes that they will be able to put it up properly if no bridesmaid can attend and learn in person.

Most of the brides I deal with don't even know what a bustle is! I usually offer the American Bustle (outside hooks and loops) unless they request differently. But I totally appreciate Adrienne's video for those brides wanting more.

Agreed simple when possible is best. But a 1 pt bustle on a ball gown. I’ve been doing this a really long time & never had one that would be possible to do w/ 1 pt. I would be interested in seeing that.. what a time saver 👍🏻
