You guys are definitely the top couples sailing KZbin channel. So glad that you didn’t go catamaran on us, lol. I still favor the singlehanders, but never grow tired of you guys. Here’s an idea. How about a Great Lakes tour via the St Lawrence? No one’s doing that.

I’ve been sailing for nearly 60 years. While 30 degrees of heel can happen briefly due to gusts, it is not efficient or comfortable for any length of time. That bell is great. Optimum heel angle is 15-17 degrees. Beyond 17 and the performance suffers, so adjusting sails or reefing will give better performance and comfort especially for longer tacks.

Love the comment: “ she is like a tank!” Nice to know as we narrow our choices for our next boat……metal seems to be a good choice. 👍🏻 I heard a comment from another boater recently “no replacement for displacement.” Looking forward as to what the boat mechanic wizard figures out with the motor. See you next time. ✨🌊💨⛵️🏝️👙🌞✨💕

So cool to see your new boat out on the open water and going for it! Loved the 3d camera views showing all the sails flying! What a sweet ride. The side views with the raw hull showing sure looks like a battleship coming your way:-) Sure hope all is well with the engine and can't wait to see the next episode!

For your dingy, I would suggest finding a broken spinnaker or whisker pole that you can cut down to the right length to serve as a gin-pole. The halyard is hooked to the top of the end fitting of the pole and the block and tackle is connected to the bottom side of the pole end fitting. That way, your dink is pulled vertically without needing to be dragged along the hull.

I was VERY skeptical about this NEW boat....I knew you learned a lot from your nice Hunter Sailboat days..... I REALLY APPRECIATE your new found Wisdom and gutsy decision to take on this GREAT Boat for where you are headed. Great choice! Love your Videos. Change one thing, post MORE how to Videos with this New boat. We sailors can never watch and learn from each other. There are enough Travel channels... do not try to compete with them. You are the perfect couple to show us HOW a good sailing team can work together to get these project done, without killing each other. Our wives can see for themselves what lie on the water full time can be like and how to successfully work together as true boat partners. I am sure you chanal will grow even faster from newer sailing couples watching your example of how to successfully work together as true boat partners. Then more couples will follow your example.

A locomotive with sports car performance seems like - really hooks along!!! The silhouette is very easy on the eye and guessing the extra boat length - 45'? - compliments the sail area / space when all three sails are deployed. Quality editing.

Another excellent video, well done. I think you will really love your new boat as you learn to sail/work/maintain/repair her. I would offer one hint for convenience on passage. With your cutter rig, I think you will find that in variable winds upwind you can set two reefs in the main and leave the staysail set pretty much all the time. That way you should be able to stay upright in pretty much everything from a light breeze to a gale - just by furling the genoa to adjust for wind. Two reefs in the main and staysail should be your best set for beating and as you point further off the wind, the added genoa should add speed without heel. Fair winds!

Travis, how much of a difference have you noticed between the centre cockpit of the Hunter vs the Arctic? I’ve only sailed Hobies and aft cockpit rigs. Glad to see you making way back state side! Stay safe!
@SailingJibsea3 ай бұрын
We still feel safe/enclosed in this aft bc of the higher cockpit combings, high safety rails and that it’s not as wide as some newer production aft monos. Motion is more apparent when beating upwind from the aft and less visibility in the bow obv from driving further aft

Put the first one in the second one goes in where the first one came out the third one goes in where the second one comes out and the same way no matter which one you start with or the first one goes in the second one goes in the first one comes out You take it past the three it takes to hold the splice. Do you want to and then one and your spice will taper down to the diameter original rope all three of them come out they all come out the same time but a different loop and then taper.

@dracey17783 ай бұрын
Sorry guys but I’ve got to tell you that that snubber arrangement is slightly wrong. The snubber is supposed to take the full load on the rode and I don’t think hanging from a snap shackle is the answer. The chain is not supposed to take the load as there is still a snatch load that should be avoided (there is no gradual transfer of load from snubber to chain). The calculation for snubber length makes for a pretty long snubber for storm conditions, much more than I see people putting out. The calculation I don’t have handy but you can find it in Practical Sailor. For example, my 32 foot 19,500l lbs boat should have a snubber length of 52 feet under storm conditions. Oh, and tie your snubber with a camel hitch as opposed to a rolling clove. Under height load the rolling hitch will slip.
@SailingJibsea3 ай бұрын
It’s good to have more than just one snubber depending on the conditions. I can tell ya we’d hate to use a 52’+ snubber having it sit in the water when you spend everyday on anchor (esp when the majority of days don’t call for it)

Guys, guys, guys... Raise that roof, as well as adding the bimini. The deck height is too low, you've discussed that. It is a bit of fiberglass and wood work, perhaps for your Winter episodes in Toronto or Halifax? Perhaps that's already the plan? You seriously need more room to crank those winches.

I noticed you don't have a safety overboard ring in your cockpit area, not one that is ready. It is mandatory, for good reason. Coastguard do not really want to do search and rescue because of negligence. If you get boarded by Coastguard you will get a violation/ fin against you. But what is kind of negligent, if one of you falls overboard,the ring is the first thing to throw at the victim,it will save a life. It is impossible to turn around fast enough on a sailboat to recover an overboard person, and try to keep an eye on where they are in the water. Unless you think you are both excellent swimmers thinking you can tread water for a good amount of time. I have been a competitive swimmer, have passed many swimming certifications, certified scuba diver, and I wouldn't bet on myself going overboard waiting to be retrieved fast enough. Just saying.
