After seeing what a bit of 'stray current' can do in a very short time on 'Sailing Dauntless,' the whole aspect of galvanic corrosion, just unnerves me. I'll post in a reply with episode # once I find it. (have to give me a few mins.... haha)

Wasn’t that a bit of a risky route to take out of Panama? A few sailors have disappeared there - presumed killed by piracy.
@SailingJibsea2 күн бұрын
Yeah it could be, but just like risky parts of town…we hope for the best and try to take precautions staying far offshore

That is an AMAZING tender, but for the price should have a 5 gal gas tank welded into the pontoon. Built only for 10hp, I'd put 20 on it. The Suzuki 9.9 has a retarded built into the air intake, take that out and it then produces 20hp. For production cost they are identical but restrict air flow to rate it 9.9. Other companies do this too so check the specs on cc size stroke and carburator size feel injection size as well. CHEERS AND FAIR WINDS Steve h

The little Mac 270. They weigh a ton. It's not a pic as a tender but literally unsinkable

You got correct less pretty, treat that casting like egg shells, catching a wild flying drum on a full jenny sucks after the casting breaks, yes they do!

The locks were built as big as they were thanks to the British. Why? Because of the Titanic!

For others: a removable stay from Dyneema is also an option, so that you do not have the steel stay blocking your tall genoa all the time (when tacking). PS I have a different approach altogether, chosing for an anti torsion cable sown into the storm sail with a detachable furler (that I also use for the gennaker). I use this sail as a cutter sail (which with 20kn and up becomes the storm sail in combination with 1-2-3 reefs and a furled in genoa).

Having worked with Aluminium for a lot of years where vibration was a problem I'd suggest those mounts are too small and localizing stress. Ally is prone to work hardening which makes it brittle. At least get Godu's opinion on those mounts.
@williambremner902214 күн бұрын
Yep. I caught the cotter pins at the end. Good job you eventually remembered!
@timdunn225715 күн бұрын
Nope. An alu mock up of an inflatable is a lousy rowing dingy. Not MY idea of a good tender.
@SteifWood16 күн бұрын
I was looking at those extremely sharp edges on the dinghy's transom ... hmmm? Hope you stay safe, ie uninjured, during rough conditions and reefing at the mast, etc.

Godu was overpriced when they opened but they have jumped prices quite a bit from where they started. And they sure stepped with that big time 3% lol. For 1/2 the price check out the dinghy by Mantus Marine
@JoeAnderson-v3v9 күн бұрын
The dinghy from Mantus cant even plane with 2 people and a 20hp. Its a bathtub.

@@sailingmaverick2480 Close friends of ours borrowed one to try it out and this was their exact experience. The boat could not overcome its own bow wave and started getting very wet over the transom. Max speed: 7-8kn. Not a good planing design. ALWAYS TRY BEFORE YOU BUY!!!
@JoeAnderson-v3v7 күн бұрын
Notice in their own promo video: a short clip of 3 adults in the boat and it cannot overcome its bow wave, pushing up a huge wake.. This happen with just two guys. Also: claimed 220lbs empty. ..Ouch..

You may want to make a cover for the dinghy so that it won't fill up with water when you are doing crossings.

Wouldn't a set of chaps/cover, work to stop the UV damage and help prevent holes?
@SailingJibsea19 күн бұрын
Ya chaps can help the UV degradation. We had chaps for about a year but they didnt help with punctures on the bottom of the tubes

That aluminum will be hot as hell in the tropics. Like burn your skin. Otherwise, cool dinghy.
@SailingJibsea19 күн бұрын
The Seadek around the seats and on the floor should help with that plus we also don’t plan to spend the majority of our cruising in the tropics so hopefully no burnt skin!
