Thank you Jean for sharing this masterpiece. I'm a Baloch by cast, and listened this and love this, but I could never understand it's purpose. Can you please let us know what does Guâti mean and what does Guâti mât do, overall what was the purpose of this guâti music and gathering? I mean, was that arranged for some certain purpose? Thank you ❤

salam. guât is an invisible "wind", a spirit which sometimes makes people sick. To neutralise it you must play special tunes (guâti sâz) and induce trance. Then, the khalife or guâti mât can deal with it, and release the patient. In Iran they confuse guâti and damal (zikr) dedicated to saints (Abdolqâder or Shahbaz Qalandar). Damal also heals people and chases jinns; but it can be done as a devotional zikr or samâ which is has also healing effect. The melodies are different for guât (who are africans) and muslim saints. Allâh al-alim.
