If fact, most commercial ships lost the AIS positioning signal in the same area. Therefore, it is likely because of external jamming than someone deliberately turning the AIS transponder off aboard the ship. Russian air defese uses GPS jamming in Kaliningrad to confuse Ukrainian drones. It also affects the GPS positioning of ships on the Baltic sea.

What boggles my mind is why the Chinese ship that "mysteriously" switched off it's position reporting equipment when it crossed these cables was not forcibly detained and a forensic investigation of it's anchors made to determine if there were any trace materials from the cables to be found on them. If found, the ship's officers and owners would be in for a world of hurt! Ships from that shipping line should be banned from European waters for at least a decade! Frankly, ships from China passing through European waters should have to pay the expense of an escort vessel that ensures they cannot get away with this kind of sabotage.

@@I922sParkCir Jon Anker Nielsen, the harbor master of the island port of Christiansø (located on the namesake archipelago 18 km northeast of Bornholm), directly stated that he had been forced to remain silent for the past two years about what he had seen before the explosions: "In the first few days, the harbor master, according to his own statement, was told 'not to say a word.' But today, Jon Anker Nielsen can openly share that four or five days before the Nord Stream explosions, he went with the rescue service to Christiansø because several unidentified ships with their transponders turned off had been spotted there, not responding to inquiries. It turned out these were American military ships. When the rescue mission approached them, they were ordered by command to turn back." Think about it: less than a week before the explosion, the U.S. Navy was secretly operating (with transponders off) in Denmark's exclusive economic zone. And all this time, a small Danish port's harbor master knew about it, but was silenced for years. It's interesting whether Swedish, German, and Danish investigators interviewed him. Are his statements in the investigation archives? Or did they cling so tightly to the version about the Polish-Ukrainian diver, Vladimir Z., that everything not fitting into that narrative was discarded?

The Chinese ship sailed under Russian led orders and even publicly available data show exactly how they did it by lowering their anchor miles before crossing the cables significantly slowing the ship down. This accident is so strange. If an ordinary transport ship could easily cut the submarine cable in the Baltic Sea, would the driver know that there is a submarine cable under this water and its depth? Or did the Baltic Sea countries inform the ship owner how deep the submarine cable is or restrict the ship's driving direction in advance? If there are no prior warnings or draft limits, how can you enforce the law, What is the logic of enforcement or responsibility? The ship owner may also ask why the submarine cable is buried so shallowly, or because the waves pulled the submarine cable up but which should also be the cable owner's responsibility: Are there any design problems with the burial depth of these submarine cables?

Undersea cables aren't buried and their location is publicly known to avoid accidental damage.
@Ddsggcfg
@Ddsggcfg 2 ай бұрын
@knighthood91 The submarine cable across the Baltic Sea is deployed in a north-south direction, so all passing ships basically have to cross that sea area over this submarine cable. Therefore even if the cable location is known, what is the draft depth limit required? What about the requirements under tsunamis or special sea conditions? The submarine cable deployers of course had to consider these cable burial issues in their design, such as tsunamis or deformation. Unless the sea area is clearly warned, but if an ordinary cargo ship is within the design specifications and does not anchor or drag anchor, and has the right of free navigation in the public sea or exclusive economic zones that must be passed, how to define the responsibility, a design problem or a ship problem?
@knighthood91
@knighthood91 2 ай бұрын
@@Ddsggcfg The cable is literally lying on the ocean floor, so I don't get why you are talking about draft depth. The only way to accidentally damage it, is by anchoring in an area where you are absolutely not allowed to do so, because of the cable.
@Ddsggcfg
