‘Flowers of Herself’ soundtracks the opening 5 pages from Virginia Woolf’s 1925 opus Mrs Dalloway, so Studio Richter Mahr commissioned three film-makers to follow in her footsteps from Westminster to Bond St to buy the flowers herself.
Max Richter: “‘Flowers of Herself’ is about the energy of going through a bustling city. What instrument is making the clicking, ticking sound?

@@thekensilva Possibly a percussionist using sticks and brushes, cymbals are present but the sound you hear seems to be as you describe. After another listen I hear stick on drum rim or on a muted cymbal or chime bar.

Great track. The Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra recording is possibly longer because it covers the extra 2minutes Mrs Dalloway spent getting her act together (as some do ) before going into the great outdoors of Londons city streets.

Non conosco l' inglese,mi riferiro' alle immagini che ho visionato .( La musica e' da composizione,sembra una contemporanea sinfonia) Vedo il quotidiano scorrere del tempo nella citta' cosmopolita londinese. I contrasti emergono un po' in tutto. L' anziano che si e' riappropriato del suo tempo libero,scegliendo di trascorrerlo nelle zone verdeggianti,parchi ,giardini,che la citta' offre. ( Traffico,cemento ,gas emesso dal progresso).Lui compie azioni semplici,rituali ma ricercando un ancestrale ritorno alla natura.La gente che corre o và a passo svelto distratta da cio' di cui e' circondata.Assorta nei propri pensieri,si muove in fretta,come un ' automa ,lo fanno in massa..triste verita'.Tutti schiavi del tempo,immersi inconsapevolmente nel grande ingranaggio costruito dalla societa' e progresso indutriale.La meccanicita' dei gesti,il grande orologio creato per farti correre,lavorare per spendere ed illuderti d'aver bisogno necessariamente di un' infinita' di oggetti.* I fiori? Di nuovo il contrasto tra quelli meravigliosi ,provenienti da altre zone poi esposti in vendita ,in costruite composizioni,per attrarre il cliente. Di risposta,il filmato mostra anche quelli naturali,piu' umili ,quelli che seguono la stagione in corso,le piante semplicemente verdi.Nè colgo questo messaggio : se vuoi, se sai guardare,la flora ,un piccolo fiore o un germoglio in nascita,lo trovi ovunque. Ad un osservatore,non sfuggono certi dettagli e non devi necessariamente andare in campagna per scorgerli.Penso che si possano vedere,dettati e guidati anche da una necessita' di contatto con la natura e bellezza,i colori! Soltanto il visionarli,crea uno stato di benessere psicofisico,mentale in primis,insieme al profumo che emanano.( Io li annuso ..non posso farne a meno,soprattutto le rose ed alcuni gigli.😁)
