Facts my favorite Ravens defense ...reed in his prime ....man only if we had an above average offense.

03 Ravens have argument too, and ironically, it was their stacked defense that couldn't stop McNair (their quarterback in this game) in the home Wild Card Game that yr on the last drive, including a missed tackle by Ray Lewis on Eddie George on 3rd down, that would've given the ball back to the Ravens w/ a minute-&-a-half to go, and score tied at 17.

Freeney & Mathis were both future HOF’ers but the Manning era Colts defense is a story of two defenses: - Colts defense w/ Bob Sanders > 17.7 PPG allowed (5th) > 7th in turnovers forced > 20th vs the Run > 21st on 3rd Down - Colts defense w/o Bob Sanders > 22.5 PPG allowed (24th) > 25th in turnovers forced > 31st vs the Run > 32nd on 3rd Down It’s JJ Watt syndrome; Freeney & Mathis were both amazing but that doesn’t mean the defenses they played on were.

@@nathendelreal1952 And that was what they got Steve McNair for the previous off season too; for the quarterback position to not be their achilles heel, and here in the biggest game of the season, it was. They had a devastating defense + run game in 03 too, and I think Anthony Wright (who did better than Kyle Boller by the way) would've outperformed McNair in this game.

The 2006 Ravens defense was unbelievable and is largely forgotten. This is where the Ravens ranked defensively in the following categories... - Points - 1st (12.1) - Interceptions - 1st (28) - Passes defended 1st (115) - Red Zone TD’s allowed - 1st (11) - Red Zone TD percentage - 1st (33.3) - Rushing TD allowed - 1st (5) - AY/Passing Attempt - 1st (4.9) - 3rd down percentage - 1st (28.8) - Sacks - 2nd (60 SD had 61 and no one else had more than 47) - Yards allowed - 1st (4,225 More than 300 fewer yards than next best defense) - Penalties - 1st (79) - Interception/Fumble return TD - 1st (6) They were also the only defense in the entire NFL to have a higher percentage of opponents drives result in turnovers than points. They ranked 1st in points, plays, and time per possession. All 3 of their LB’s and 2/4 players from their secondary made the pro bowl. Ed Reed and Adalius Thomas were 1st team all-pro. Terrell Suggs was a pro bowler, too. 9 of their 11 defensive starters combined to make 45 pro bowls. 8 of their starters combined to be named first team all-pro 19 times. Ray Lewis and Ed Reed are already in the hall of fame. Terrell Suggs might join them. Baltimore has finished in the top 10 in points allowed in 17 of the last 22 seasons. They’ve been in the top 3 in 9 of those seasons. They’ve also been in the top 10 in yards allowed in 18 of the last 22 years and in the top 5 in 11 of them.

@Eli-ss9gj4 жыл бұрын
@@arsonhakobyan of course ,but arguably this was a better all around defense compared to 2000. This defense was excellent against the run AND the pass.
@arsonhakobyan4 жыл бұрын
@@Eli-ss9gj So was 00 defense. But the 00 defense was just stupid, allowing just 10ppg. When you can win the Super Bowl w/ Trent Dilfer as your quarterback, and no elite wide receivers, your defense is awesome. 06 defense may had had 1-2 more big names, and giving up just 13ppg is also really awesome. But as a unit, the 00 team was as clean of a tackling unit, allowing no gaps, as there was since the 70s Steel Curtain. Even the 85 Bears were vulnerable at defending against the deep ball, as Dan Marino showed on that Monday Nighter. Fortunately for them, they almost never needed to, cause their front-7 was just so dominating at stuffing everything at the line, and then getting to the quarterback in known passing situations.

Colts had no business winning that game. Offense shit the bed hard, and the miracle resurgence year of Steve McNair came to a disappointing end. That defense stimied Manning from the first motherfucking snap. Seemed also every bounce went colts way, and we managed to drop 3 or more interceptions.
