The ex PRR loco was built as a straight SD40. Towards the end of CR, they rebuilt her to "SD40-2" standards. Her appearance is straight SD40. The best nomenclature for her is SD40-2R.

#8873 was built as PRR #6045, then became PC, same number, then CR #6298, then became CR# 6971 as an SD40-2R in the early 90's, then finally, CSX #8873.
