Baltzell (Bozell) Springs Adventure on the Chipola River

Travel up the Chipola River to Baltzell Springs (also called Bozell Springs) near Marianna, Florida. The eye of category five Hurricane Michael passed over this jewel of nature three years ago. The result is shocking but offers hope as well!

Hurricane Micheal clearcut my property for me, took out old grand daddy oaks an telephone pines along with others, but my lone hickory survived, go figure, lol. Thx again for the vid

Cypress trees and live oaks survived it best, followed by longleaf pine. Slash pine and loblolly wound up broke off and on the ground and it definitely took out most water and other types of oaks. You are welcome!

Sure thing! The bass are everywhere when you get into the spots where the spring water hits the main river.

I paddled up to Baltzell Springs since the storm. It does look like a war zone. When we were teenagers, we spent a lot of time there.

It is slowly recovering but it is going to be a long, long time before the trees grow back. The ones that survived are doing well and the smaller ones are budding out right now. The water still looks good and the fishing is great.

It has started to grow back from the storm. The water is beautiful and the old Cypress trees made it through.

Looks beautiful I would move from Central Florida to the panhandle in a heartbeat if it wasn’t for the hurricanes that hit up there year in and year out.
