Why remove the centers out of the plastic snap housing? Cant you just snap on and shrink over?

The heat shrink is not large enough to go over the plastic. I guess you could find larger heat shrink but it will have to be better than 3:1 or it will not shrink small enough to get tight on the coax so you will have to find greater than 3:1 and I am sure that will cost more. Most hams I know are a frugal bunch so I never looked into that option.

So I would need two if I buy the 40 meter add on kit right.

At the antenna.

Bill, This installation would be fine, but your balun kit came with solid beads, not split. I had to cut the connector off the coax to get them on, then re-solder the connector. Not a particularly difficult task normally, but my arthritic hands don't do this very well any more. Ed KE6BN

We sell two different kits. One with solid beads and one with split beads. This video is for the split balun. It sounds like you purchased the solid bead kit.

@@billrockwell7250 I guess I didn't see the split bead version on the website, Bill. I don't have the hex up on a tall mast yet, but it seems to be working quite well on its stand at 7 feet in the yard. Tilt up mast construction starts in a couple of weeks, held up by the rotator being back ordered. After 57 years as a ham, this will be my very first beam antenna.
