To answer some questions: "Avada Kedavra" is a phrase in the old Aramaic language that means "I speak to destroy", which was obviously taken by JK Rowling for Harry Potter. A lot of the symbols painted onto Bambie as well as the set are old Celtic symbols, and originally Bambie was also meant to have some makeup in the ancient Irish language Ogham that said "ceasefire" and "freedom for Palestine" but the EBU told them they couldn't. Crown the Witch is just the phrase used by them and their supporters to encourage people to vote for them. Also, this year was the first time since 2018 that Ireland has qualified for the final, and Bambie was very much an underdog in the whole contest, but eventually became one of the favourites to win the whole contest, so getting Ireland's best result since 2000 was an amazing achievement.

This is what I love about the ESG fan community. Thanks for taking the time to share those details; much obliged!

The phrases in Ogham language are in the makeup. One on his face (the vertical line with slashes) and the other on his leg. So the EBU could not stop her ; ).

"Crown the Witch" evolved from an original poster held up by an audience member in the Irish national selection show (Late-late show), saying: "Send the Witch"

I'm so mad at myself! I subscribed to your channel last season but forgot to hit the bell, so I'm just now seeing your Baby Lasagna & Bambie videos. But thank you! I so appreciate the thoughtfulness and attention to detail you give every performance, even if the song itself isn't something you'd listen to yourself - and that you can give a song the positive feedback it deserves even so! Some people just TRASH things if they don't personally like them...shows that you're a pro. 🙂

A lot of the symbols on the screen and throughout the performance where Celtic symbols they used to carve into rocks, the “line” on their face was traditional ogham writing spelling free Palestine, this is controversial because Isreal is in the contest
@realname689Ай бұрын
The Ogham writing originally spelled "freedom for Palestine", but the EBU made them change it. In the final performance, it spelled "Crown the Witch".

"If the colour scheme is anything to go by, i'm gonna go out on a limb and say theyre NOT a fan of JK Rowling" lmaoooo Very perceptive, you are correct. Others in the comments have explained the origins of the use of Avada Kedavra here of course. But yeah Bambie Thug is nonbinary so the trans flag inclusion is a lovely touch
@CallumboMagumboАй бұрын
Not sure if someone has commented this already, but after Covid there was a change in rules to help limit the number of people needed on stage from 2021 onwards. There is still rule that it is no more than 6, but previously that would include live background vocalists - since 2021 they have allowed pre-recorded background vocals. Unclear if this might revert back in the future, but I generally see it as a positive as it does make it cheaper to send acts if they send less people especially as some of the smaller countries are getting priced out because accommodations have been so expensive the last couple years with the UK (cost of living crisis) and Sweden, with next year's host Switzerland also super expensive. Note: I assume acts can still do live background vocals, but I'm not sure. Live instruments have been banned (?) for quite a while now.

Many Eurovision songs have more than 3 sections. Especially if they're written by one of the many teams who write Eurovision songs every year. They are trying to appeal to public voters who hear the song just once by packing in as man hooks as possible.

In Spain we have "Abracadabra pata de cabra" (goat leg) for the typical spell for magicians, as in kids mimicking magicians and that kind of things, way way before than Harry Potter existing 😄 So it has to come from something else

Bambi Thug creates her own style of music she calls Ouija Pop. Her music is usually spells she’s written. This was brilliant and should have won or came second. Eurovision was very controversial as Israel was allowed to compete while committing genocide on Palestinians while interestingly Russia has been banned from Eurovision for its war on Ukraine. Ppl felt Israel should have been banned too… and I agree. This Eurovision was the first time they introduced boo reduction technology so that while Israel performed their song to all the crowding booing the viewers at home could only hear cheers and applause. Israel came 5th while Ireland 6th and Neatherlands was removed from Eurovision due to their stand with Bambie Thug against Israel.

The background for the song is that a boyfriend broke up with them so they went and summoned a creature to control and be there new partner when the creature betrayed them they destroyed the creature. The theming is very heavy into the Wiccan/Pagan depictions and the religious background that Ireland was built upon, A lot of people instantly jump to this being Satanic which is very wrong on a lot of levels.

The last bit was: Love will always triumph hate. You have to watch (for yourself) ESC Gabe. He has a good overview of what happened this year. Because it was a nightmare. Protest for Palestinians, controversies about the very political Israeli song, Russia was not allowed to participate. But other countries in war yes. Also Azerbaijan. And then hate... so much, so ugly... hate against the LGBTQ community. That was symbolized by the competition between the two favorites (Nemo and Baby Lasagna. Not from Baby Lasagna himself but the fans. Not from Nemo. They liked each other's song's). At one point, the Italian artist showed up in the press center and sang Imagine by John Lennon. Then, the artist from the Netherlands was disqualified for "aggressive behavior against a FEMALE staff member" that turned out to be nothing (there was an investigation by the police). So, he almost had his career ruined. All journalistic standards were violated by the European Broadcasting Union!!! Until 20 minutes before the beginning it wasn't even clear if all the artists will participate. If you plan to do more reactions, you will see a lot of statements at the end of the songs.
@DramaQueenMalenaАй бұрын
Bambie Thug and Nemo were the two openly non-binary artists this year. They became friends. When Nemo won, Bambie crowned them with a thorn crown, and Nemo wore it for the entire winner performance and interview. For me, the picture that symbolizes this years ESC is Nemo wearing Bambie's crown with the broken trophy in their hands. Like: Friendship and support are more important than a trophy from the EBU. Avada Kedavra is one of the many versions/spellings of Abracadabra. It's probably not related to Harry Potter.

the patron who recommended this and baby lasagna must've stole my brain because those are my 2 favorites of 2024. we were on a journey with this song for 6 months. the national final performance was kind of dodgy and the studio is not for everyone and many weren't sure if it would even qualify for the final. but then the first rehearsal footage came out and every worry in the world about it was gone. speaking of JK Rowling and Ireland - someone on the Irish head of delegation in 2023 was found to be very bigoted toward the lgbtq community and the band (Wild Youth) told him to kick rocks. Miss Joanne had a bitch fit on twitter because she was friends with the guy and tried to smear Wild Youth. Idt she made a peep about Eurovision this year but I love how the Irish entries 2 years in a row would piss her off somehow.
