This instrument can almost force total silence in a crowded room. It demands full attention somehow, and it sounds so ethereal, like music leaking from the spirit world

The breathy tones that come from the lungs into the bamboo. Most instruments strive to transform and erase the "human" sound. The shakuhachi uses it as part of the music. You could never make an effective shakuhachi on fruity loops or any other sound board because all of the human nuance IS the music.

All those different techniques give it so much colour! All those overtones, flutter tonguing, and vibrato. And I love the little gap of silence in between each new phrase. So pretty.
I really like this, the music, the setting, everything. I loved Japan when I visited the country, the people I met were so friendly. This is so peaceful. It makes me want to return to Japan and stay longer.
This woman is a glorious gift from heaven, she plays in a divine way, can touch all the chords in my soul. Very few instruments can be so evocative like the shakuhachi, and when she plays this piece it's like hearing the very voice of Nature, in all its shades. I cannot count all the times I have been here to listen at (and watch) her version of Koden Sugomori, and every time after a few notes I find myself lost in time and space. This time I want to leave a few words of gratitude for the all the good received. We are all very lucky to have the chance to listen to this artist and enjoy it just by one keyboard touch, thanks thousand times Mamino Yorita and God bless you.

Very well said. I am a student of shakuhachi. Judging from your appreciation of the instrument, I imagine you might be as well? MMA is best enjoyed when you understand the difficulty. Chess is best understood by students. Fighting games, swordsmanship, any sport is best understood by practitioners. The true nature of the shakuhachi and how a devoted master may conjure it's beauty is so unreal when you spend time simply trying to coax out a note or two. Slowly, you may learn to make a tune. didn't mean to get side tracked. Just wanted to ad to the admiration. This is heavenly. It is of nature. It is also, absolute mastery.
Great folk music from the Great Nation of Japan. Greetings from Italy, Venice
