I don’t understand your point that you don’t like DB7‘s? Well, probably in Switzerland, we have in general more well maintained cars, probably. But here, a DB7 is definitely cheaper to maintain, than for example a V8 Vantage manual from 2006! Had a friend, who had it as his daily car. He often drove it long distance to his house in France. With 60‘000kms on the clock, he gave it to the official AM dealer and importer for Switzerland, Emil Frey AG. For just a service and the clutch renewed, they asked not less than CHF 18‘000.-!!! For this amount, I could do A LOT of work on my DB7 i6 (according to AMHT a „one of one“ in Aston Green with parchment and Forest Green interior). Really the ONLY problem I will have to solve is, that the center air distributors from air conditioning don’t open… otherwise, it’s a perfectly maintained and utmost reliable, wonderful car, which connects the classic Aston Martin with Connolly leather and wood interiors to the modern Aston’s, in giving the way for the new design direction of the brand which lasted actually already almost three decades! I LOVE the DB7 i6-es, and they have become very rare on the market here in Switzerland, whereas the Vantages are offered in quite large numbers on Swiss market

Is this pricing difficulty a function of the cars being in that period between being modern old cars and classic. When the snotters drop away and lower end become snotters that eventually drop awa leaving only decent examples? At which point the price range contracts and the prices firms up significantly. And will that happen to V8 and DB9 in due course / when?

My current market assessment for a good DB7 is GBP27-35K. You may be lucky and save a few thousand, or, as said in this video, pay more for low mileage cars. But, I think it is very important if you are hoping to spend little to no money on a new purchase to get a pre-purchase inspection by a knowledgeable and reputable specialist. Nonetheless, buying such a car without at least a GBP5K unexpected repair fund is not relaistic. Nor is it realistic to expect regular maintenance to average less than a couple of grand a year. And if you come to realise you can't actually afford to run your car, sell it promptly before the deferred maintenance results in something like the car in this video. For buyers without significant cash reserves, I strongly advise against rushing to buy, and only then taking it to a specialist. Patience is necessary. Do not let your excitement buy a car without a pre-purchase inspection. If, for whatever reason, such is not possible, walk away.

Help us overseas types. Was there anything in your exam that would've caused an MOT failure (i.e leaks, inability to defog, airbag light, etc.)? Does an ownership transfer trigger a requirement for a new MOT inspection?

Is the dreaded ticking sound at idle a result of low oil level or misuse?

Having bought many cars at auction this is a lesson for the inexperienced. Buying at auction is fraught with difficulties, not able to test drive the vehicle, very little if any come back after purchase, you don't meet the owner, etc, etc ....... If you're not confident about your abilities to judge a vehicles condition and the mentality of the previous owners, then don't buy at auction.

I was surprised the engine has the tick noise. My understanding was that DB9 gets the tick from sucking back primary cat debris caused by misfire and that because the primary cat on DB7V is further down the pipe coupled with a different egr method it doesn't get the tick. Can someone explain where my understanding has gone wrong?
