There is a reason Bananarama are so good and underrated and this is a prime example. It was not the cutie pie versions of their songs that hit the radio it was the magic and 12” mixes of dozens of their songs that made the dance floors packed. Songs like Preacher Man, Long Train Running, I Can’t Help It, I Heard a Rumor (that Company B Fascinated Version), More Than Physical, Movin On, and the many many many remixes of Venus that destroyed hip dance clubs and men’s gay bars everywhere. I traveled a lot in those days for work and they were huge even in cool cities like Austin TX, Rochester, NY and Akron, OH and of course NYC and San Fran. They give meaning to the magic of the 12” single much like Deee Lite, Crystal Waters, and even new wave retro bands like Tom. Tom Club, B52’’s, Talking Heads, and Boy George.
