NEVER bring a banana. But since I was a kid, a friend used to say, "no hander no footer" when passing over a bridge that has that metal on it which makes your car make noise. So to this day, 30 years later.... always pick my hands and feet up when riding/driving over the metal part of a bridge! I've missed it before and caught TONS of sea Robin's. I no longer miss my normal "no hander no footers" 🤣🤣🤣

Spiders were a problem for early Merchants trading bananas in the 1600 & 1700’s. Ships of all sizes would pull up to the dock and load crates of bananas on board their ships, unaware that these venomous spiders lurked inside waiting for their next victim.

I knew about the premature ripening of other fruits but never put that together with boating. I always heard that crates of bananas often had the Harry Belafonte "deadly black tarantula" in them and sailors often perished when being bitten while at sea. Either way, I won't even eat a banana prior to going on the boat because I don't want it in my stomach and I don't want to have a banana torpedo in the chute waiting to launch!!

Of course its a superstition but based on some sort of reason. If you put bananas with your other food in a live aboard situation it will cause the other fruit and vegetables to ripen quickly. In new Zealand one of the best selling soft plastics is called the bruised banana.

Went fluking last Sunday locally and the day wasn't going according to plan as far as the fluke fishing was concerned. So, as a joke, I said to the Captain, "I think I'll eat my banana now!" The most superstitious person on earth sent this video to me. Superstitions are (quoting Wikipedia) "...a belief or practice typically resulting from ignorance, a misunderstanding of science or causality (false causal attribution), a belief in fate or magic, perceived supernatural influence, or fear of that which is unknown. It is commonly applied to beliefs and practices surrounding luck, prophecy, and certain spiritual beings, particularly the belief that future events can be foretold by specific (apparently) unrelated prior events." Simply put, this superstition, like all superstitions, is ridiculous.
