Dive in , you can pick anything from their channel and you won't be disappointed www.youtube.com/@BANDMAID . Thrill was their very first MV, live they are even better, if you want to see where they are now then Unleash!!!!!, Influencer or From Now On from their recent EP are gold. And then there is their acoustic stuff and their alter ego Band Maiko.

They were actually getting concerned about the potential for audience members to suffer exertion-induced heat exhaustion. Ironically, now that they aren't flooring it tempo-wise for the _entire_ show, Saiki can command the whole crowd to "Jump!" up and down at 145 bpm during "NO GOD."

How are they NOT more popular? No shit, dude. Have you guys done FREEDOM, LIVE? ONLY SIX SONGS??? There are 30+ hard driven, for the most part, some ballads (get tissues ready), THEY SMASH ANY TYPE of song they want. Alone, Blooming, Catharsis acoustic, PLAY, Moratorium, matchlessGUM (if you can find it), my favorite 80's style songs are SHAKE THAT and CHEMICAL REACTION. I am almost 60 and was banging my head before you guys were born. THESE LADIES give me hope again. Music has been shit for decades until I found these ladies.

Nice job, guys! "Bubble" is a bit off center for the band, but is definitely a favorite of many fans. Emotional guitar solo? Try "Daydreaming". You guys are stoics denying yourselves Band-Maid songs and stretching out the time between reactions. Better men than me! Recommendation, skip to the end, their latest MV release is an instrumental, "From Now On". Definitely playlist material. Thanks for the reaction!

I saw them at a small venue in Phoenix, Arizona Oct 19th, only 500 people. You could feel the love between the band and their fans. If they ever play close to where you are DON’T MISS THEM. All Band Maid songs have a groove to them. Doesn't matter how fast or slow the songs are. It is just natural to Kanami's writing style. For me that is what continues to draw me to them. Give Kanmi a suggestion for a type of riff and she will kill it every time. One of the best guitarist out there.

I've been thinking about what you said about the nature of the choruses in BM songs. Personally I think the catchiness of their chorusus are a big plus as a counterpoint to the complexity of the rest of the song and the inclusion of deliberately designed audience participation bits for foreign listeners in particular help to make them very accessible. I'm perfectly happy to hum along anyway and don't care what language their songs are in. Anyway a song that I think definitely doesn't fit what you're getting at is Puzzle which I think is probably a highly ranked song for most BM fans (top 4 for me). The chorus doesn't have a distinct difference from the verse and is a vocally challenging song for Saiki I think and I doubt it's one that even japanese speakers sing along to. The 2017 Studio Coast live version is the one to find and it would be remiss of me not to mention that Kanami is relenless from start to finish of this song and that there is also a stunning live acoustic version too. I would hazard a guess you may throw your hands up again in mock surrender in this one too.

The entire Conqueror album I feel was really experimental, something they did to explore different routes.
@edwardallen4051
@edwardallen4051 Жыл бұрын
Not sure about that, BM explained the rationalle behind Conqueror in the commentary to the Christmas Acoustic concert and it was as Views from the 502 stated which was to have more slower tempo stuff in the bag to give both their fans and themselves a chance to calm down in their live shows, particularly festivals which are often in sweltering heat. It has now transpired from a recent interview that Kanami struggled a bit on the US tour with the pace and suffered from anemia leading to them dropping From Now On from one show and I suspect may be the reason that the last few shows were down to 16 songs compared to 18 at the start of the tour.
@roygillotti4615
@roygillotti4615 Жыл бұрын
@@edwardallen4051 Well it can be both, I have a feeling after World Domination they wanted to explore some different things, so they did. That said, I wouldn't say most of the songs on the Conqueror album are easier, in fact a lot of these songs require a ton more technique than those in prior albums. Yeah stamina must have been an issue, not only playing these venues, but traveling via bus across the country is exhausting in itself.

@@edwardallen4051 I really always felt that their tour was a really massive undertaking, i also think Kamami is a very strong fit guitarist, she keeps almost perfect posture except for her amazing solos, i really think the Japanese work ethic might have contributed to biting off a little too much,,,

Hey 502. This is classic BAND-MAID. Saiki's soliloquy was all in English. I got over the language thing a looong time ago. If their music doesn't grab you then it doesn't matter anyway. I'd sooo much rather listen to BAND-MAID and not understand what their singing about then listen to some of todays crap and NOT understand what they are singing about. Check out power ballad DAYDREAMING, or their latest instrumental FROM NOW ON (Kanami provides the vocals and you won't know what knocked you upside your head). Or also a new one with reference to social media called INFLUENCER with great MISA/Kanami solos. I'll be keeping on you guys every so often. You're not getting rid of me. Makes you want to learn Japanese doesn't it? Sometimes they have CC in English. Many fans post CC'd English lyric Band-Maid videos. Unlike many bands, Band-Maid's lyrics are usually interesting reads. The band primarily uses Miku Kobato's (Rhythm GT, Vocals) lyrics. Her band mates describe her lyrics as "Intellectual and Philosophical" and it is Miku who includes the most English phrases, often playing with English words that mean something different in Japanese or rhyme with words in Japanese that suggest a duality of meaning. She's quite poetic. Main vocalist Saiki has written lyrics and collaborated with Miku. Saiki doesn't include as much English in her songs and her songs tend to be a bit fiery, like the song "HATE?". I agree with commenter Jeremy Dawkins: Band-Maid's slower songs give Saiki (and Miku) the opportunity to pack more emotion into the vocals while also allowing Kanami more space to emotionally charge her short, lightning bolt guitar solos. "Daydreaming" is an good example of this.

If you can find Page (preferably the live Shibuya 2020 concert), it also has an emotional solo. It's a very different song to those you've listened to so far, another of their slower tunes and very beautiful. Kanami is very capable of playing the more bluesy emotional solos and from my perspective I wish she would do it more but then maybe the ones she does play wouldn't have the same impact. Trouble is she does everything so well and the variety is one of the things that keeps us so invested.

First of all, I'm glad you like Band-Maid so much. But it seems this "language barrier thing" is something exclusive to you Americans/British. Maybe you're so conditioned, that everything has to be in english, that you sometimes forget that there are so many different, sophisticated cultures out there, too. I mean, it's not that we are living in the 21st century and you are able to look up the lyrics to almost every song in the world in seconds 😉 But sorry for my rant 🙂

I think it's true, we Anglophones live in a bubble that's too comfy for own good. I mean if a group in Spain wants to become more popular in Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland, they don't start putting out songs in each of those languages. They just start singing in English. Ironically, I think Band-Maid fans are MORE likely to have looked up a song's lyrics at least once and gotten an understanding of it, as opposed to the average US listener to an English-speaking group who knows the one catchy phrase but is vague if not completely wrong on what the song is actually about.

I generally really appreciate and enjoy your reactions but I need to respectfully disagree with your assessment of saying their choruses reflect anime music. I feel when Reactors say that it's super lazy, I get that it's the look and the culture that drives you there, but if they were blonde 6 foot German dudes putting out the same exact music just singing in German, you'd never say that. It would just be amazing Rock n Roll. In addition BM has this incredible ability to write Choruses so perfectly and in such a way that they feel familiar. Like when you're listening and you feel as though you could predict what the next note is going to be - because clearly that's what the next note should be and only could be - because it makes perfect musical sense. That is the Genius of it. Someone else smarter than me put it like this. Band-Maid is the musical equivalent of Quentin Tarantino - He and They are not out there reinventing the wheel. They provide you something that is familiar and easily recognizable, something to latch onto, but in such a way that feels fresh and new because you've never seen it pieced together quite like that before. What keeps music from just being an ever evolving journey through landscapes of sound and turns it into a song is its Chorus. It's where you can just fall back into a song and just groove. Band-Maid Choruses excel at providing you with this Great catchy little place to land and just Groove the Phuk out in, within the song.
