Dang, I must be really creepy, because I check the Twitters of all five members of Band-Maid periodically. Re "sweet tweets", it's interesting how the personality of each band member is reflected in her writing style. Kanami tweets cute and sweet, Misa tweets cool. Miku's tweets are all ". . . po!" but her song lyrics are some of the most intelligent being written in Japanese popular music today, with allusions to anime, classical literature, and Buddhism, puns, clever rhymes, unusual meters, alliterations, double entendres - it's really difficult to translate all that, but the recent translations are certainly better than the older ones. Individually and collectively, musically and lyrically, Band-Maid is one of the smartest bands in popular music. Now, let me get back to Twitter . . .

Isn't that how it''s supposed to be done? Yeah, dunno why it took me so long to find this band. Bits become Jpop-esque, but on the whole, pretty solid. I also like that it's pretty clear that they're playing their own instruments. A low bar, to be sure, but that's where we are these days. Still, a solid group. I'm slightly peeved that their handlers seem to think they need a gimmick, the silly maid's costumes. Have you ever seen housekeeping staff with those get-ups? Or that could rock this hard?

@@tananam9782 The maid costumes wasnt the idea of "handlers", Miku Kobato(rythm guitar/vocals) originally used to work in a maid café which are pretty popular in Japan, and came up with the idea herself when she first started the band in 2013. Its used as a direct contrast to the aggressive music she was writing. Gimmicky...yes...but something forced on them by a "handler" or management...definitely not.

@@DMiyash248 l saw her photographed with Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin after he watched Band-Maid perform in Tokyo in 2016. Mr. Page said Akane was the reincarnation of John Bonham and Akane was star struck and said she received much encouragement from Mr Jimmy Page-san. She promised to do all she could to make sure she lived up to that encouragement. Band-Maid is the best hard rock band on the planet today. Sacramento loves this band.

They’re such a blessing. They don’t have a single song that doesn’t kick ASS, they can play the shit out of their instruments and they all sing amazingly (and Saiki has SUCH a beautiful voice, which sounds so great complimented by Miku’s great voice), they’re incredible songwriters. And they’re ALL stunningly gorgeous lol! Best band to come out in the last 20+ years. I love band maid! They inspire me so much. It’s only been a month or so since I found them and Misa has already inspired me to really dig deeper into my instrument and learn music theory. Love love love them. So grateful for them. Totally a random find too. I love every song.

Thing that people fail to see is that. These bands don't pop out of nowhere, they pop out of factories where they were molded to be a certain way, to appeal to the mass audience. Its why the members of baby metal when they were first taken in, they didn't even know what metal is. In other words, they are used as a way of some old rich guy to get even richer. Its pop metal/rock, which is why its catching on so well. Because its catchy and scratches that ''edgy'' feeling making many remember their teen years when they listened to green day or blink. Do they deserve to tour the world ? Not really, since most of them couldn't care less about it and I know plenty of artists who are more deserving of it, because they put their blood sweat and tears into what they love, while this is just a corporate decision.

But I've heard in Japan that's the point with "idols": they don't want a completely finished product but a person they can feel like they're seeing advance. Babymetal is that kind of product, three girls discovering what metal is (fictionally or non-fictionally) and starting their own careers in it.

Alex Crowface You're right in that. And in the 'western world' bascially most of music is also produced that way, with stupid talent shows and stuff like that, for the last 10-15 years. This may be another product of such a thing, but at least it includes metal... The kami band is amazing, and I really enjoyed seeing them perform live. If this is the corporate/poppy gateway for people to get more in touch with metal, I'm fine with it personally :)

Zulamun Fair enough but the reasoning behind metal or punk or any ''alternative'' genre of music is that. Its mean to be independent, its mean to go against the grain because its ''alternative'', its ''different'', its not ''POP''ular. I don't dis em for doing so, I dis em only because its pretty much Pop and there are people, YEA I LISTEN TO METAL and they only listen to baby metal (yes that has happened). Its the same reason why so many people hate the newer age metal or any type of ''Core'' genres. Because they are the alternative adaptations of a boy bands. 妙法寺にお参りしてきた。杉並区堀之内にある大きなお寺。周りを住宅街と商店街に囲まれ、すぐ近くを環七が走っている。境内は近所の参拝客も多く、保育園児たちが集団で走り回っていたりと結構賑やか。 7年前の話とはいえ、こんな賑やかな中でどうやってMV撮影したんだろう、貸し切り？それとも周りにギャラリーがたくさんいたのかな？妄想は膨らむ。 ちょうど若いお坊さんが3人いらっしゃったので、撮影エピソードを聞いてみたんだけど、当時はまだ誰も妙法寺に居なかったとのことで何も聞けず。残念😢　それでも彼女たちと同じ景色を見て同じ空気感を体験して、勝手に自己満足に浸っている。

I'm in love with these five talented women. Not because of their looks, but because of how amazing they are. I could not choose one out of the five. Sure, they are very talented, but not to the point to be the most technically skilled musicians out there (session musicians hello). The real strength of Band-Maid is their chemistry and how they complete each other. If you add great musicality and talent to that you get an explosive result. Are Band-Maid the best band in the world? Very likely. I hope they will conquer and dominate the western world.

I couldn't agree more! That astonishing chemistry is their magic, no doubt. The sum is so much more than the parts-the radiant, patented Band Maid barrage that comes off of the stage is......well, you know! All 5 of these talented ladies are important cogs in this band. What continues to amaze me is almost a year after I discovered them with Thrill I constantly seem to discover more in all of these songs. This one I liked immediately, but now love and revere as another one of their masterpieces! And there are so many of them. The songs constantly grow on me the more listens I have. How can they continue to get better? Amazing! I also would dearly love to see the conquering and domination of the western world by Band Maid. For those of us in the know, the world is blessed to have this band and their music in it. They have such a strong sisterhood bond and genuinely delight in seeing each other shine. Beautiful to see--and hear!

I am a Toolhead, I love Iron Maiden, I have my headphones on my head all night. This band. This band has slowly become my favorite band, my favorite music. They are the definition of PASSION in music. Please, listen to their discography. This is absolute gold, Megadeth, Metallica, Dark Tranquility level. I can't express how great I feel about this music. And I am an old fool, over 30 years old now, who thought rock was dead, that we would never have anything that would consume your soul like Juda Priests did, like Nirvana did, like Pink Floyd did, like Black Sabbath did. BAND-MAID has become my favourite band so much, that I´ll fly to Japan to visit their concerts in Nagoya and Kobe in January, but neverthelss I immediately bought tickets for IRON MAIDEN´s Open Air in my hometown Bremen, Germany, on June 9th. I will do it together with my daughter ( metalhead ), btw. I´m over 60.

@@haggaisimon7748 Many many years ago, visiting a Slade concert, I was dancing and singing C´mon feel the noize, Mama weer all crazee now, Gudbuy t´Jane etc. etc... Half a year ago I was dominated by BAND-MAID in Bochum and Hamburg. I was dancing and singing, sopping wet slightly deaf and awfully happy. Continuation on the 10th and 11th of January in Nagoya and Kobe. Perfect !

@@madellynpineda5020 1st cd is maid in japan-originally discontinued but re-released 2 years ago-great cd imho. 2nd cd is new beginning. 3rd cd is brand new maid.4th cd is just bring it and the 5th is world domination.6th one now is conqueror-i'm waiting for that one to arrive and bought all the others-there are a few songs out there on singles only but some of those songs are on the full cd's but not all of them

Its just a pretty common thing that discovering Babymetal or Band-Maid will lead to someone finding the other band. I found discovered Babymetal in 2016 and then Band-Maid in 2017 and love them both, they are not really comparable musically but being Japanese bands with female members and close enough genre wise the overlap is going to happen.

One of the things that separates Band-Maid from a lot of superficially similar bands is that they aren't interested in playing the most technical, show-off pieces to impress people who can only judge music on that metric. I think that what makes musicians great is what they _choose_ to play, not what they _can_ play and what Band-Maid chooses to play is light-years ahead of most other bands. 😁

Who knew that the next revival wave of Metal would come from Japan. Band Maid, Babymetal, Ningen Isu, for starters. It is so good to hear extremely talented musicians rocking out like crazy, It doesn't matter to me I only catch a few words in English. At 60+yrs,I've seen a ton of older bands, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Motor Head, Slayer, Judas Priest, which was great, but nothing really interesting has come out of the US and Europe in quite a while. These bands really catch your ear and stand out like few others. It's too bad they don't play anything like this on the regular radio. That what You Tube and Spotify are for I guess, lol.

Japan has a lot of good rock and metal bands. You can discover a new band every day. Sorry, but Babymetal is not a band. Babymetal is just a show by producer Kei Kobayashi with a singer, dancer and a backup band.

I saw them with the original Kami band in Japan, years ago ,and saw BabyMetal in Bostons' House of Blues last September 11,2019. Galactic Empire was the band hired to do the US Tour. They were both great, entertaining shows, and nobody seemed to mind.
