Honestly you could throw a dart at their discography and you wouldn't hit a bad song. Play live has the same feel as this and is from this concert. Rinne is a much heavier toned song from them. Secret my lips is one of my personal favorites, with some incredible vocal harmonies. Honestly i could just keep going lol. They really don't miss. pick anything you want.

Their composer is their secret weapon. There's a ton of extremely technical bands out there, but they just don't have kanami writing their music. She somehow creates virtuosic songs that don't lose their catchiness one after another.

Exactly. Kanami's creating something "new" to us.

Well said. I can't thing of anyone today who can craft great rock songs as _consistently_ as Kanami. Same with part writing: there might be others more "technical" than MISA and Akane, but virtually no one as creative.
@outwest1014 Жыл бұрын
Kanami only composes half the song, Muki is the lyricist, you know the other half. Plus she is the leader of the band. MISA has said Miku is their producer!!

They are starting on their tenth anniversary tour. They are the first rockstars I've seen in thirty years. I've not bought a music CD since Rush stopped touring, I heard these girls about 9 months ago and since then have bought their last 5 CDs and their 2021 Online Concert DVD. They don't release bad songs: their composition is immaculate, arrangements are clever and catchy, and their lyrics are pure poetry. These five musician/songwriters have developed a magic formula for producing amazing music. My recommendation is to go to their KZbin Channel and start selecting songs at random. EVERY ONE OF THEIR SONGS IS THAT GOOD

"delicate petite creatures" ... that's exactly the first impression you get when you meet them in real life. Band-Maid is back in the US this week to open for the Last Rockstars 2 concerts in NYC and 1 in LA. Saiki has been their lead singer since she was a teenager.
@greylocke100 Жыл бұрын
Yes, Saiki was 19 when she was recruited to Band-Maid. Before that, she had been a backup dancer/singer in a J-pop group with 8 other people and according to an old interview from I think 2018, she HATED it, because she felt she was just there to be eye candy and to fill out the background.

You just missed their US tour in October. This song closed all their shows. A thoroughly fantastic concert as the Maids entertain you with FUN stuff and Awesome Rock music. Never a bad song to be heard. Whether Live or album. Or acoustic or instrumental. They are coming back to the US in May and August I believe. No one man shows announced yet. Miku (rhythm guitar/backing vocals) who started the band worked in a maid cafe in Japan and thought it would be a cool idea to start a rock band dressed as maids so you would think they would play this cute pop music but then they hit you with a kick ass rock sound. They call that "The gap".

It’s funny that you mention the contrast between the “delicate petite” girls in maid outfits and them rocking out and “killing it”, as you say. Miku Kobato (the rhythm guitarist and backing/harmony vocals, the main lyricist, and always wearing the red rose in her hair) is the band founder and the whole concept of cute maids playing really hard rock music is her idea. She calls that disconnect between the music and the image “The Gap”, and it’s absolutely intended. She used to work in a maid cafe when she had the idea to form the band. The tldr is she found the guitarist Kanami, who gigged with the drummer Akane, who went to music school with the bassist Misa, and then Miku wanted a singer with a more “rocker” voice than her own, so the band auditioned and hired Saiki (lead vocals) and Miku “demoted” herself to backing vocals and learned guitar instead (Kanami, the lead guitarist and main composer is her teacher) to help fill the sound and make the music more powerful. They’ve been together for 10 years, have released an album or an EP almost every year, and recently finished a US tour, and they’re coming back for a couple of festivals. Go see them live if you can!

One of the many reasons I love them is that they don't look like they sound? Or I should say what we've been MADE to think they should look like. For me, before I would have thought: black, leather, spikes, and/or super sexy. Think Wendy O Williams, Vixen, L7, etc. All of them fit the stereotype of the music. Band-Maid went out of their way to look the opposite and I love it.

They are the OA for The Last Rockstars (TLR) show on 2/3, 2/4 (both NY) and 2/10 (LA Palladium, going). The only regret on seeing them live during their 2022 US tour was that I didn't go to all 14 shows. I got to see them early on (5 shows), while they began to ramp up towards the back end of the tour. At the Tokyo Garden Show, they were firing on all cylinders + the Supercharger, Po! They will be at a couple of festival, one at Daytona Speedway (5/18) and the other in Columbus, OH (5/26). I think they have other surprises, since they will be in the States, Po! Great Rxn and sub'd! 🦍🍌PS, in-between all of this, they have a 10th Anniversary Japan tour with 23 shows starting in March, with a gap from May to July 3rd (US and maybe rest, collab, recording, MV), then finale in Nov. at the Yokohama Arena (17K capacity: maybe they can be the 1st to perform at the K Arena Yokohama (20K) slated to open later 2023).

Great reaction. As you immediately picked up on Miku (founder / main lyricist / rhythm guitar / 2nd vocals) whole idea was to create what she calls the Gap between their appearance and sound. Yes, they are incredible in a live setting because of their musicianship, their huge and diverse genre bending catalog of songs but most of all their energy, band chemistry and crowd engagement. They don't show up to just play their music at the crowd, they always show up to play with the crowd. I would recommend their official Live of Freedom as your next reaction.

Live is just amazing, I saw them in Boston back in October, not only do they sound great live, but you feel the music. My one complaint of this recording is they didn't mix in MISA's Bass playing well enough for my liking. I think the studio that did the mixing on this concert just didn't understand the concept of Lead bassist.

"🤘🤘 ¡ ¡ ¡ B A N D M A I D H E A D ! ! ! 🤘🤘"

They have so many amazing tracks, especially live, but sadly only a handful are official live tracks with an audience. They have quite a few tracks built for live like this. Everyone has their personal preferences, but they're just that good that this one isn't even top 25.
