Just WoW, huh!! Band-Maid was formed in 2013. They are in their late twenties. Miku; Band founder, Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, Spokes-Pigeon Kanami; Lead guitar, music composer Akane; Drums MISA; Bass Saiki; Vocals They write, arrange and produce their songs. In 2019 they toured 3 US cities selling out 5 concerts. All are professionally trained. Kanami, Akane, and MISA were playing piano at 6 yo and they are college level musically trained. Miku was in a Jpop trio and Saiki was a session singer and backup dancer. To be clear THEY are a Rock and Roll band. Little Richard Rest in Peace a True Great One. The biggest difference with Babymetal is that Band-Maid themselves write, arrange, and perform. Babymetal has the best staff around and does the best work. One of the reasons Band-maid is so popular in Japan is that the personality of each member is very attractive. Band-maid do what they really want to do. It's so fascinating that they are enjoying themselves very much. And their daily training for good live performances is tremendous. It's like a professional athlete!

@Jay Bee oh cry me a river. Sour much? Babymetal and Band Maid are nothing alike and shouldn't even be compared. It's only because they're female and come from Japan is why these bands keep getting compared. Would you compare Slipknot to Foo fighters? Of course not.
@dwaynediamond64314 жыл бұрын
@Jay Bee I'll admit they I didn't read the last part of your statement so yes we agree on the fact that they're nothing alike but to say their album sucked and they're not great because they only have 3 albums is an idiotic argument in itself. Quantity doesn't equal quality. To be clear though, I really like Band Maid. I think both bands are great and saying that one is better than the other is simply an opinion and doesn't make it true because you can't compare the two. Simply trashing another great band because you think yours is better is juvenile.

Excellent reaction! Miku (Rhythm Guitar, Vocal) is the oldest if I'm not mistaken. She's pushing 30, I believe 29. She's also the one who started the band and writes the lyrics. Saiki (lead vocal) is the youngest at 25, or maybe 26 now. The rest fall somewhere in between. Kanami (lead guitar) started training on piano at an early age and switched to rock guitar in high school. She composes the music. Misa and Akane (bass and drums respectively) are also highly trained multi-instrumentalists. These girls are no joke! Looking forward to more reactions. I'd put down a link, but honestly, these ladies don't have a bad song in their catalog. Choose any.

Miku will be 29 in October. www.barks.jp/news/?id=1000078709 Saiki turned 26 last February. I remember seeing a video of Saiki teasing Miku about being 810 and during the exchange she said her age. Apparently Kanami's birthday was listed on her Audioleaf account, which would make her 27 right now (28 in September), but I can't confirm that. Likewise Akane's birthday was apparently listed on some social media when she was DJ Aichi, which would make her the oldest at 29 (30 in December). Again though, I can't confirm this. No idea for Misa.

Great reaction as usual guys, good stuff. Band Maid is an all female Japanese hard rock/metal band and their all in their young 20's. Misa is the bassist, Akane is the drummer, Kanami is the lead guitarist, Saiki is the lead vocalist, and Miku is the back up guitarist. Most of their songs are half English and half Japanese. You guys should react to Band Maid "Onset" or "Play" live next. Keep up the good work!

You should add Band-Maid as a weekly reaction. They have a lot of great songs and videos to react to. They also have a very passionate fanbase.
Band-Maid is more hard rock than metal. They certainly didn't invent a genre, they're just really good at what they do. They're all in their late 20s. Their lyrics are mainly in Japanese with English thrown in as a "spice." English, and borrowed English words, are all over Japanese language, business, and society. It can be kinda funny since the translations sometimes aren't *quite* there. Possibly it implies an international clientele / audience, not exactly sure. It's important to understand that the Japanese music market is second only to the US in size, so it's quite easy for groups to make big money there while never worrying about a world audience. Band-Maid are growing in popularity, but Babymetal is undoubtedly a bigger act.
@philproffitt83634 жыл бұрын
My favourite bands have never been the 'biggest' in the world. Just honest creative musicians who gain fans, who invest in their development, for life rather than the fickle mass audience. I agree their use of English words occasionally is natural for them and not a cynical attempt to win Western audiences. I wouldn't wish them all the negatives that come with being the 'biggest'...rather just the core fan base that their skills deserve.

Welcome aboard, Smokey & Hollywood. You are embarking on (along with many others) an awesome hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid: BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of rock n’ rollers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Consistency (nearly 100 songs with new album, “Conqueror”), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destine for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off the rails spectacular. Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 50 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5XWaJppgpJnorM Their later songs drive even more - Rin’ne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Glory, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE and Smile... or more punky like Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series! And many are represented with over 25 well produced music videos. kzbin.info Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE concerts such as Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA on February 14th (sample “Domination” kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5PcgnaAo5ulj8k), ZEPP 2018, Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and some of the better 2019 tour Fan vids. Here’s three of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at super intimate venues. The first taken by Vladimir Chupin in Hamburg: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZCUpZttmNmag9E, the second taken by JT Dayo in LA: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqasinWhdt6Veas, and third, JOSER8845 in LA: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6S6i6mifKx3idU. If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. For fun, check out an awesome, little known "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their earlier stuff: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009 Band-Maid members are: (Ages are best est.). Saiki Atsumi “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements, melodies and High Priestess mediator between the Gods (Band Members) and the masters and princesses (Fans). At 26 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Leader) as Miku calls her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away the persona. Her charisma, performance and voice focus the experience. Miku Kobato "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 28 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kurrupo! No, no, no… KURRUPO!! Kanami Tono “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 28 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more! Akane Hirose "Gorilla" - Drums, 29 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumRilla” is the Party! MISA "Assassin" - Bass, 27 years old. A sullen, barefoot, dark spirit driving her 5-string bottom-end to hell and back, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. The Mysterious One literally kills it… every note.. uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!

I don't know if it's the kid in me or some shit but I am telling you that when I get together with my guests and we do the reactions to Band Maid, I can see all of their body language and facial expressions during the song's, and it is absolutely fun as hell as a Band Maid fan to see and enjoy.

Whenever people react to BabyMetal and Band Maid, the conversation will eventually get around to comparing the two. I love them both, but cannot compare them musically because they are two completely different entities. I can explain the difference between them though. You can't really compare the two bands. Band-Maid has a very traditional rock background. They learned the instruments on their own, formed the band on their own. They perform in the familiar live on-stage style. Babymetal is way different. (Not discrediting their talent) Their start is closer to a regular pop singer. The three main girls got discovered by a talent agency when they were ages 5 and 6. They were (and still are) pop music fans, and their goal was to become jpop idols. The pop-metal fusion was the idea of one man in the agency, basically as an experiment. Musicians in the agency wrote the songs, and the girls sang and danced to them. The instrumentals we're not even live in the beginning, the other members we're more for show; the illusion of a metal concert. (A pop style concert in front of a metal concert) It gained popularity quickly, and that's when they transitioned to live and permanent members of the band. While they are more like a traditional band today, they still have some of the best musicians the agency has playing in the band, along with world-famous dance choreographers to train the girls.

You can watch the whole concert and it's really good. They have about 80 songs and they range between really good to great. They have an alter ego called BAND MAIKO and the do acoustic versions of some of their songs as well. The lead guitarist KANAME is obsessed with the lead singer SAIKI who is a bit moody, some say cold but she demands that the crowd like them. The rythem guitar is MIKU who started the band. She practices magic and believes in ghosts. She also thinks that she is a pigeon and finishes each sentence with "po" (the sound of a pigeon) AKANE is the drummer and after seeing a concert LED ZEPPELIN proclaimed her to be the best drummer in the world right now. She is the leader of the band because she is responsible and organised actually quite normal . She is the one you would marry. MISA is on the bass. Unusually she plucks and slaps and strums. She is also regarded as one of or possibly the best. She doesn't mind a drink and always has an alcoholic beverage on top of her amp. She sometimes looks a little drunk. She is very reserved and doesn't speak much but is more out going than she was. They are massively talented and it is the hope of many of us, and many of us are older men, that they will revive the popularity of hard rock or even just rock because they do both.

Saiki is not moody. Just cool.
@stephenchigwidden75044 жыл бұрын
@@winwinwin282828 well she is cool she collects model trains and the related accessories and has other interests outside of music but she's a bit younger than the other girls and was still very young when she joined the band. She's only 2 or 3 years older than su metal but without all the guidance that Su would have had at that age. She was a bit sullen and insisted that she was tricked into joining the band. Half way through a promotional event she declared that she wasn't going to wear an apron any more. Despite being the youngest she has the strongest personality and I think that it's possible that in 5 years it might be her band iff she wants it . I think that she's pretty tough.

@@stephenchigwidden7504 Saiki definitely looks like she is owning the stage nowadays compared to earlier years.
@stephenchigwidden75044 жыл бұрын
@@winwinwin282828 yes I made a comment on another channel about the way she has changed. In 2016 hoping the crowd would like them then in 2018 insisting the crowd like them and now in 2020 DEMANDING the crowd like them to the point where you need to join in with the crowd responses in case doubt is cast over your allegiance. SU METAL is the queen of metal but SAIKI is the dominatrix of hard rock .

Aside from the Wow! Factor and that they're both Japanese Female Fronted, they have very little in common with BabyMetal. BabyMetal started 10 years ago when they were kids. BAND-MAID started three years later in their their late teens and early twenties. BabyMetal are only now in their late teens and early twenties. BabyMetal was formed by a producer as a Concept Group for SuMetal. BAND-MAID formed organically as a real band when Miku, after working in a Maid Cafe', found Kanami through her Internet guitar videos. She suggested Akane as a drummer, she had worked with who brought in MISA on bass, who she had played with in Music College. When Miku decided to bring in another girl to take over on lead vocals, Saiki was found through the bands agency.

This is a good into song to Band-Maid. No comparison to Baby Metal. I have seen both play here in LA and love them but Band-Maid is a Hard Rock sound. These ladies will be the savior of Rock music. If you continue on this journey you will see how talented each of these 5 ladies are. I have been following Band-Maid since 2016 and these musicians love to play and have fun on stage. Oh and get used to this, MISA!!!! MISA!!!! MISA!!!! the Badass Bass Assassin. React to Play, Onset, Don't you tell Me, Moratorium, Puzzle(non-acoustical version)Take me Higher from the 2018 Live concert in Tokyo. Their MV are good but the Live versions kick ass

I like to think of BAND MAID as the Perfect Storm ! You have Miku working in a Maid Cafe and wants to start a rock band, but can"t play an instrument. She finds Kanami on KZbin doing guitar covers, who knows Akane the drummer, who went to music school with Misa the bass player. Then they kind of trick Saiki to join them by having a live performance only days after her first audition. Who would have thought that chain of events would have brought together this group of talented women? But I'm glad it did!

First saw BandMaid as the last of four bands in a line-up at the little rock club in Shinjuku called AntiKnock. That was 2016 and their new album came out that week, which I picked up the next day. So glad I was there as I imagine it's going to be hard to see them in such a small venue for quite some time now! It's been really good to see them take off as they have; they deserve it. By the way, the third band up that night was called exist†trace (yes, spelled with a cross). On the night I thought they were the better band, but that's the slickness of being around a lot longer, about 14 years then, I think. Their style has gone through a lot of phases in those years, but if you fancied seeing what they were doing when I saw them first in 2016 have a look at 'Dream Lover' on KZbin. Last time I was down at AntiKnock (to see exist†trace again) I saw a band called Fake Island with two very, er, different singers. You can check 'Fortune' if you like. Have Fun.

Band-Maid has made it to where they are the old fashioned way. The earned their way to the top going through some pretty lean years at first. Once they started being allowed to write their own music, they skyrocketed. Baby Metal is a corporate construct that had tons of money pumped into their act from the very beginning. Baby metal is no better than any K-Pop flash in the pan. Their shelf life will be short and Band-Maid will go on for quite a while.
@laughingbuddha29484 жыл бұрын
Every syllable you wrote about Babymetal is misinformed and moronic. Just another nobody on the net spouting nonsense while most big names in metal praise this band.
@rickfromtexas46594 жыл бұрын
You are wrong. Read up on the history of Baby Metal. It IS a corporate construct.

@@rickfromtexas4659 YOU are wrong. You read something and thought that was all there was to it. As if I read your username and think of a grimy old lonesome cowboy with a red face and a horse. I'm sure reality is different, lol. The girls were very young when chosen by a talent scout, who happened to be a metalhead with a crazy dream... bringing heavy metal and Jpop together. His agency gave him the go ahead but nothing else, they thought he was nuts. In Japan, metal music is a very small niche to begin with... There was NO financial support whatsoever, the girls performed a few years in shopping malls and very small theatre's, in borrowed clothes and NO backing band, but a mime show. After a while their songs created interest on youtube and only then a live band and funds were made available. So, very humble beginnings but a shitload of talent. Take their age into account and it all comes across as perfectly natural. Hope I filled you in some with this.
@rickfromtexas46594 жыл бұрын
Read the article I linked about how they were created by a producer. None of the girls had ever heard any metal music before this guy put the band together. Even the musicians change depending on other gigs.www.inverse.com/article/12922-a-brief-history-of-japanese-metal-idol-band-babymetal

@@rickfromtexas4659 Don't be bone headed, Rick. I gave you the information that is more to the point then that article. And the fact that the girls didn't know metal, well, how old were YOU when listening to metal for the first time? They PLAYED in it at 12-14 years old, while you were at most still a despair to your parents. They received praise from Rob Zombie, Rob Halford, Matt Heafy, Dave Mustaine, Marty Friedman, Oliver Sykes, DragonForce. They played with Guns and Roses, Chili Peppers, Metallica, Korn and received numerous awards from the metal community. Drop your idea's about them, man. If not, forget about it.

I've been to hundreds of shows going back to the early 80s, including shows people tell war stories about. No band in the past 15+ years have touched me at such a deep level as these 5 girls. The talent is world class. The crowd control/interaction is top 1% ever. The depth of their catalog is crazy. Their "filler" songs would be singles on other band's albums. Watching a live video is great but BEING THERE is life altering. I'm not being hyperbolic...I mean it. I've never traveled for a band before but I went from LA to SF in 2017 for them and I'm going to Tokyo next February (if COVID doesn't F it up). If you want another killer track check out Dice (live) or Onset (live). Onset is an instrumental and is a freaking next level talent show.

I'd not heard that Hip-Hop acts are getting into rock (not surprising as it's not my scene, in truth). It'd be kind of weird if the genre that did so much to push rock out, was the one that saw it be pulled back into popularity. Sometimes I feel Band-Maid are just one influential fan away from exploding in popularity. They just haven't benefited from the exposure Babymetal have had.

This right here! I keep hoping someone who knows Dave Grohl makes him watch a live video. They would be the prefect (though dangerous) opener for a Foo Fighters tour. Dangerous because Dave would have to follow THAT ever night.

Band Maid is a HARD ROCK Japanese band. They composed almost all of the songs and they wrote most of the lyrics. They learn music at a very young age and they are truly musicians. Unlike Babymetal, Babymetal is basically pop blended in heavy metal music. Babymetal, like most other pop idol groups, is a product of the recording company. They don't compose their own music.
@jorgeluis22474 жыл бұрын
Can't compare them, as they both have their own strengths and weaknesses. They both have earned their reputation in their own right.
