That's something that happens sometimes with Band-Maid - an album song that you don't care too much for, and suddenly, on stage, it turns into something else, something catchy and wonderfull. It happened to me with Balance or even Screaming. Fact is, and it's nearly a Band-maid fan mantra: they are (even) better on stage.

So TRUE! For me, it was Hate? And, of course, the Lollapalooza performance. Before that, it didn't really stand out to me. After, I simply can't get enough of it.

In many ways I often like the Live versions better, I feel Saiki over time on tour gets a better feel/emotions of the song that she didn't have time to develop when they were recording the studio album.

I was there and it was worth the 6,000 mile flight for a long weekend. They had the bass/guitar battle for my first show in 2018 then the next year they stopped playing it that way. It was one of the main reasons I fell in love with them. I never thought Id hear it again. Then five years later i saw it again in Nagoya. I cried.

When Band-Maid goes into the studio, it seems as though they're still fleshing out the arrangement and will continue fiddling and redoing takes until Saiki reaches her limit and tells them that the song is done, send it on, time to move on. Akane will say that she doesn't really grasp the timing until she's performing in front of a live audience, and Kanami and Misa will keep tweaking the songs in rehearsal for touring. In fact, during the tenth anniversary tour, many of the Misa - Kanami bass - guitar duels (Dice-HATE?, Don't you tell me) emerged during the tour or over the summer break, as though they worked up a few ideas on the tour bus and implemented them as they went along. Similarly, Saiki doesn't always grasp what emotion she should be projecting while recording. She says she uses "Nothing" as her emotional default when singing in the studio. But as she performs live on tour she develops the appropriate emotional tone. This seems to be true for all of the members of Band-Maid since Maidiacs will always tell you that their "Official Live" videos outshine their studio MVs.

Over the years, we see them increasing the popularity of their group. This wonderful band deserves every fan that adds to every day. They are just fantastic in everything. My only wish will be that, with the growing crowds, the elaborate stages, the giant screens, etc., they will not lose this magnificent naivety in front of their passion. This "happy little girl" side that made us cling to her, and, above all, to their extraordinary talents..

The magic of Band-Maid. I might agree with you somewhat the cool thing about the music video is how it displays the members individual personas Miku making the omelet and her magicspell, Akane eats everything in sight including the omelet, Kanami in love with Saiki, and Misa taking a shot from a flask. With all that the video is cool, but live is a whole different song. The Misa Kanami conversion epic!❤

Optically DYTM is one of my favorite MV's for the reasons outlined by you. Musically the LIVE version is magnificent!

The video is great but has little to do with the lyrics of the song. *"After Life"* is another one: The video is funny and entertaining but doesn't really express the meaning of the lyrics. If they ever release an "official live" it will take on a completely new dimension too. Especially if it gets a really good translation, like this one now has. But musically, like Joel said, "DYTM" has been honed and perfected by performance, and Saiki is a much more mature singer than she was even just a few years ago. She is magnificent!

Their live versions of old songs sound tremendously mature and evolved. The arrangement they made of their song Forward (from their first album Maid in Japan, 2013 no less) seemed absolutely amazing to me.

Great reaction Joel and like a lot of other comments here, this should be the song you show your guests for Band-Maid - better lighting, larger crowd and just better all around. Saiki gave it her all during the concert, she was on fire the whole 3 and a half hours. For a girl that started out as an extremely shy girl that barely talked in interviews, she has bloomed into one of the best rock vocalists around.

watched the MV version, I disagreed with your complaints, but I understand musical tastes differ... But I knew you'd come around with this live version. Honestly, this concert is the best I've ever heard Saiki sound. She's got so much grit and emotion in it, it just drives the songs to another level. Not to mention the extended solo sections and the ladies all having a blast playing in front of their biggest crowd to date (I think it was 17,000? I'm sure other madiacs will correct me. I know Lovebites was in attendance.)

I think 17,000 is total capacity. The stage cuts it down to about 15,000 and the center ramp and wings cut it down to about 12,000 or so. The upper bowl was not completely sold out, so the attendance estimates seem to range from 8,000 to 10,000. Not a sell-out (next time, maybe) but more than Tokyo Garden Theater (which did sell out).

There is a MISA Signature about to be released....And if I recall..She was handed a new bass by the president of Black Cloud just before the Tokyo Garden Theater concert..It might be the one your talking about..The white one looks pale blue (or is that just me)..And may be a new factory stressed...Like her yellow smoke from the Christmas acoustic set (which was new but looked beat up).

Yokohama Arena has a capacity of 17,000, they sold a little over 15,000 tickets if I am remembering right. And the original MV, was from before Saiki's vocal surgery for polyps, and her vocal technique which had led to the polyps wasn't the best. There are 2 recorded performances from Studio Coast and Zepp of this song that are much better than the studio version, but even they don't have the same power that she shows here. Although Line Cube Shibuya comes close, it doesn't have the extended bridge/duel between MISA and Kanami.

Have been wondering what the tickets sales were like for Yokohama..I know there was at least 10,000 there..as the top tier seats were not utilized..But never been able to find a quote of the actual number of tickets sold...Where did you find it?...I was there by the way Po! 😁

I think the chorus is killer and that doesn't come through nearly as strong in the MV. And I don't feel the MV script fits the song. Saiki singing it to you live does.

Drummer is really good, bass palayer and guitarist too, but the music sounds ai generated and the lead sing not only doesn't play an instrument, she's also simply not very good. Really this is pretty bad, I don't get the fascination people have for this band.
