A thing about the maid outfits, Anastasia - As Fans and Maidiacs know, Miku -- the 2nd guitarist, lyricist, founder and who worked at a maid cafe -- wanted to show that everyday working "Kawaii" girls dressed as maids in high heels while having fun and smiling could rock as hard as any guy band sweating it up in their hip "poor tortured artists" clothes... and by showing that contrast (the Gap), it would generate interest, which it so successfully has done! Now they show up as Maids for all band business and interviews, etc. and have created a long-lasting, unmistakable, visual band brand. Very cleaver, Miku. Your diabolical plan for world domination is working. Of course, none of this would work if their music and stage performance wasn't at such a remarkably high level. Band-Maid is considered by many of their fans and Maidiacs to be the best hard rock band in the world - maid outfits and all!

Miku was the founder and original lead singer of the band, and she herself recognized they needed a singer with more punch if they were going to be successful with this kind of aggressive music, so they recruited Saiki. Miku and Saiki work really well together in harmonies and counterpoints. Miku has a softer, "cuter" voice that complements Saiki well. Two of the band, MISA (bass) and Saiki, wear black outfits that contrast with the cute "maid" look.

So cold blooded on stage -- The Barefoot Assassin -- but behind the scenes, she is a prankster second only to Akane. I just love her. Seeing the many behind the scenes videos out there, it's great to get to know these wonderful women that we have all come to know and love. They really do seem to have a sincere love and appreciation for each other as well. If you get a chance to watch their most recent online acoustic show, a lot of this comes out, especially in the version where the band members are commenting as they watch their own performance.

Five amazing and talented ladies! This is the Band-Maid fun song, they almost always include it in their concerts! Their fun is infectious to the audience! Akane, the drummer, was complemented by Jimmy Page, yes THAT Jimmy Page, for her drum work after watching them live two nights in a row, high praise indeed! The Maid outfits have evolved over the years to better reflect each band members personality. Akane is the happiest drummer on the planet, and, one of the best, imho! Kanami was the first person Miku recruited for the band. She's spent the past 8 years as Miku's guitar tutor and constant source of encouragement. Along the way, they've developed their own songwriting chops. Miku writes the lyrics, and Kanami is the primary composer. This was Miku's first song, so it seems fitting that she'd take a verse.

Great reaction and I loved your words "...more Band-Maid reactions...". You can pick any song out of their 100+ song catalogue since there is not a bad one amongst them. Prepare to be plastered with reaction requests by the Maidiacs. They have a very loyal fan base and I am one of them. Band-Maid will have an onlince accoustic set (pre-recorded) on December 25th starting at 11am (JST). Fun fact: When Kanami (lead g) knelt to Miku's voice solo part she was actually trolling her by blocking the monitor since Miku had messed up the lyrics (written by Miku... lol) in a concert a little earlier.

Weird to say this because I loved listening to Domination album earlier this year before Unseen World album came around, but Unseen World and all music after it are Leagues above Domination. Domination felt like BM finally hit the American Rock level, but Unseen World album felt like them going above American Rock and into their own style.

Thank you for reacting to my favorite band of all times. MISA is one of the best bass players in hard rock today, she masters many genres and blends different styles on the fly. Have you seen her pick technique switching between slap and pick playing. MISA is also a master in finger style playing. Akane is the best hard rock drummer today. Kanami writes the music and is a great guitar player. Miku writes the lyrics, plays the rythm guitar and sings harmonies and a few leads, she even have 3 songs where she is the solo singer. Saiki is IMHO the best hard rock singer in a very long time, her voice control is amazing. All in all I count Band-Maid as the best hard rock band since the great bands of the 70s. Band-Maid's catalog contains of more than 100 songs, not matter which you decide to react to Maidiacs will apporve and support you.

'FREEDOM' was a relatively early BAND-MAID song from 'Brand New Maid', the third studio album. It was one of the first songs to have lyrics from Miku, the band founder and rhythm guitarist. The only song on that album with music composed or arranged by BAND-MAID was 'Alone'. Even so, you can see that they inject their own flavor, even with the early songs that they didn't write themselves. By the time they released 'Just Bring It', the next studio album, they were writing most of their own material.

Band-Maid doesn't have genre. They play just about everything from hard rock to ballads to straight up speed metal songs. They have the same outfits because they are Maids...get it, band of maids. Although each album they modify their costumes. MISA (yes her name is all caps), the bassist, is dressed as an assassin maid and Saiki, the vocalist, is more of a Spanish Maid while the other three are more typical French maids or variations of the outfit. But it's undeniable they are amazing performers. I just hope someday to be able to see these wonderful women in concert and be able to get some of their energy they give to their audience. For some songs, Daydreaming, Onset (instrumental), Puzzle, Black Hole, Bubble, Blooming, Don't you tell Me, DICE, Choose Me, or anything else from their catalog. You can't go wrong with the Maids.

Saiki (lead vocals) blew out her voice a few years back, she had surgery and long term vocal rehabilitation. Both her and miku(b-vocals/rhyme guitar) still attend vocal training session, which has really paid off with there live performances🎵🎶🥁🎸🎶🎵

Thanks for another wonderful reaction, Anastasia! It's interesting what you were saying at the end about Saiki's ability to avoid glottal stroking, because back in 2017 she had to undergo surgery for vocal cord polyps. After that she had to work hard at rehabbing and strengthening her core. Most of the live and studio videos on Band-Maid official are full of jump-cuts, but there are a few that aren't quite so jumpy, like Wonderland and Daydreaming, so you may get a better idea of Saiki's vocal technique from those.

In 2018 Saiki underwent vocal cord polyps surgery, after she struggled with her throat for two years. After she suddenly lost her voice, she decided to go ahead with the surgery and although Saiki was initially terrified the procedure went well, and her voice and throat are today better than ever.

Great to see you getting back to Band Maid. For more of those great harmonies, I would suggest "About Us" and "Daydreaming." About us is from their live online concert, and Daydreaming sounds like a 1980's power ballad...I would suggest the official video on this one. The ladies of Band Maid have many different influences they pull from. This is why each song sounds different. The guitarist has said that her greatest influence is Carlos Santana. That is highly unusual for someone playing hard rock...but it shows in the band's variety. They have over 60 years of great rock music to be influenced by! The kicker is....every song is good and has great melody. No matter what song you chose to review, you will love it. Also, there really is no comparison between Band Maid and LoveBites. LoveBites is strictly power metal. It is what they are great at and they pretty much stick with it. Band Maid on the other hand, bounces all over the music spectrum. I am absolutely crazy about both bands! I love them so much that my phone background is Miku...just to let everyone know, I have decided that in my next life, I am going to Japan to marry a pigeon!!

The song Freedom is not composed by them but is their fav song for concerts (lyrics is written by Miku). Looks like someone is crushing on Kanami. I heard that she took up the guitar to impress the girls. She said she now likes to impress Saiki . If you react to Don't You Tell Me live watch the look on Saiki's face after the solo . That is you aren't to distracted at the time . Akane is the happiest drummer in the world. Fun Fact. When Kanami comes over to Miku when she does her vocals, it was because the last time they performed this song Miku stuffed it up. So Kanami sat down in front of here to give her moral support & to keep an eye on her. Just notice the smile & the nodding of her head while she was watching Miku. All five are good friends off stage, Miku and Saiki attend the horse race's together and all five frequently meet for dinners out. Kanami is actually teaching Miku the guitar. Akane has got to be the happiest drummer on earth! Misa, the Bare Foot Assassin has a distinctive style all her own! Their songs are all different but at the same time familiar, truly their own sound.

The girls of Band-Maid see themself all equal. Everybody of them gets the chance to shine in one or the other songs. There is always some place for a short drum Solo, there are many bass solos from Misa and also some songs where Miku is taking the lead ( they call it pee pause for Saiki ). Clear, that Saiki the singer and Kanami the lead guitar have the most presence. It is one of the bands where you really can see that there are 5 good friends making music.

While Saiki is an amazing singer they would sound a lot worse if Miku wasnt singing along with her :) They do tons of harmonising and she sings lots of bits you might miss if not paying attention. Miku is as good a singer- she just knew her voice alone didnt suit the music she wanted them to play- its too cute. Hope you do more band-maid. I'll pick the Daydreaming MV for my recommendation - its a power ballad with amazing singing and a beautiful solo.

I watch Freedom at least once a month specifically for Akane's (Gorilla) drum solo. Most of their songs will feature a mini solo for each artist 20 seconds or so. They are always smiling and having fun in all of their videos. Most of their songs are different from one another and they do a lot of musically unique things.

Oh yes, their songs are very different from each other... The fun they are having on stage during their live performances always leave a smile on my face. They are different types of maid outfits. The white frilly ones are the French maid look. Some are more the domestic household maid look, and some are more like the female Maitre'd. Even the different color flowers in the bonnets are supposed to have meaning. Miku "rhythm guitar, backing singer and band founder" worked for a time in a traditional Japanese maid cafe. So, she used the maid look and play on words to develop the Band-Maid image.

Their charm is abundant songs that cannot be understood by one song. This can be said to be the TOP of Rock GIRLS BAND in Japan. By all means, not only live but also songs that you can not listen to are PV, please see the awesomeness of that talent.

glad to see you here, hope to see you stay for a while. these ladies have 100+ songs. like lovebites they keep the outfits. early videos from the start they had some different maid outfits, but saiki and misa now have different maid outfits one you need to see is their first mv thrill after that they just got better. thrill was the song that hooked me. maidiac, wolfpack, lunatic. and i love it

Love this song and this is my favorite video because of Akane's drum solo. She keeps the solo in time with the song. If you watch this video again, you will notice during Kanami's drum solo, you will see Miku and Kanami Pumping their fists, clapping and cheering for her. I do not know of another band that actually cheers for each other, and interacts like they actually like and enjoying being with each other.

I love your reactions and commentary. It is always great to see someone new realizing what we Maidiacs have known for quite a while. These Girls are GOOD! If you want more songs to listen to, I have a few suggestions, but I'm sure everyone has their own favorites and you really can't go wrong. Here's mine -- Afterlife, Warning, Dice, Shake That, Don't You Tell Me, Take Me Higher, Turn Me On, The Non-Fiction Days and the song/video that I first saw and hooked me -- Thrill. Flying High off the Conqueror album is underrated in my view. Have fun with this band. I have been for over 4 years now. Saw them live in LA October 1, 2019 and they were amazing. They were so down to Earth and fun at the pre show meet and greet too.

"Freedom" is one of my feel good songs of Band-Maid. Especially this live video with all their smiling and happiness. By the way, there isn't a Band-Maid song that will disappoint you and that I would not recommend. Of course there are favorites, but the tastes are simply different. Another Japanese, all-female metal band you should know is Nemophila. The vocalist and musicians are all extremely versatile. In addition to their wonderful original compositions, they have made dozens of amazing cover song videos, including tributes to many Japanese pop, rock, and metal bands.

Miku (singing backup) formed the band. She brought lead singer (Saiki) on because she wanted someone with a more powerful voice, so yes, she is a singer in her own right. They spend tons of time together, and yes they are best friends. When they are back stage, they have to explain all the dirty jokes to the naive Kanami, and voted Misa (Bassist) as having the best boobs. In their off stage videos, you will see then sticking their fingers in the other's ears, and up the noses of others, when they are trying to speak on camera. So genuine, and just having a ball. Nothing is put on, no egos involved, and they do what is not only best for the band, but their main focus is to serve their fans (Masters and Princesses). They have even written one or more songs specifically for the fans. Lead Guitarist (Kanami) is the master mind behind most of their music in that she writes and composes it, etc. But she does this also, with the involvement of all of the other members, who sometimes makes changes to fit their styles. They are all musical and entertainment geniuses! One of the best bands in the world.
