Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 56 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive 10 year back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and bad-ass musicians to boot. Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in maid cafe's. It's a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see is NOT what you get. They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

And their playing and stage presence is just touching the surface of this band. The girls have their stage personas, their off stage personas, they even have an acoustic, tradition folk Geisha rock and 'April Fool's Day gift to their fans' personas! Great back story, true friends, and total musical geniuses (especially Kanami, the lead guitarist who IMO is a modern day Mozart when it comes to writing and arranging music ... Her shedding abilities are the least of her many amazing talents. I'm a 66 year old rocker, and I've not seen a band like this every ... The fan friendliness of the Beatles and Monkeys, the consistency of song quality of Queen, the attention to detail and arrangements of The Eagles & Elton John ... And while they kick your ass with their music, they can turn and destroy you with pure Kawaii sweetness while tuning up their guitars for the next 'musical assault'! Over 120 songs... Not a single dud

There is a name for this genre, it's Band Maid. Constantly experimenting and pushing themselves to the limit. Kanami the lead guitarist is the main composer and asked Akane, the drummer what her top drumming speed would be, Akane said about 190 BPM so Kanami wrote Black Hole at 220 BPM. Akane submitted 7 possible drum patterns which she rated Easy to Hell. The rest of the band chose Hell. This is how they work, they never settle and us fans never have to, there is never a song that is just a variation of the last one.

They have a great catalog of songs, but my heaviest recommendations would be the official lives of Domination, Freedom, Moratorium, Onset, and Play, or the MVs for Blooming, Dice, From Now On, Influencer, and Unleash! Okay, names, pronunciation, nicknames, and roles, in order that they joined the band. Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed. Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors from Tokyo University. Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Frequently snacks between songs. MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls. Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).

Best band this century. As you've seen they can easily range from a more classic, bluesy, straight hard rock to this proggy punk metal. They take every combination of rock, punk, metal and pop and have a unique song for that combo. This is from their online only concert during the pandemic. To see what they're really like live I highly suggest the Domination Live official video. It's a true representation of what it's like seeing them in person. Check out the acoustic versions of Catharsis and Sayonakidori in Band-Maid's official channel. While the guitars (Kanami and Miku) were both using acoustic and the drummer (Akane) was using hotrod sticks, the bass guitarist stuck to the electric so you will hear MISA's legendary skills prominently. The lead vocalist is named Saiki (Sigh-key). Thanks!

"Black Hole" is from the heavy end of their repertoire. There are so many suggestions for more Band-Maid. They *are* their own genre. I suggest Domination (official live, not the music video), From Now On (music video, it's a great instrumental), Blooming (music video), "Rinne" (music video - usually pronounced "RIN-ay"), Puzzle (live), and many others. They are excellent musicians, compose their own music (except for really early stuff), and vary across acoustic, hard rock, ballads, punk, pop catchiness, and even a touch of metal (Black Hole). Different again is their traditional Japanese side-project, Band-Maiko (maiko is apprentice geisha): see "Gion-cho" and "Secret Maiko Lips". They are definitely worth knowing more about -- they have been my number 1 band by far since 2021. Their oldest video -- Thrill -- is what saved them from oblivion 8 years ago when they were just an unknown Japanese band. The management were going to close them down after Thrill, but the video went viral and got a couple of million views ... overseas .. so the management relented and kept them on. Now they tour the US, Mexico, and in the past Europe and South East Asia. They are very popular outside Japan because they play high quality rock as many in the West remember it from decades ago. They are highly thought of by other musicians because of their obvious skills. The band was created by the rhythm guitarist/second vocalist (Miku Kobato) who used to work in a maid cafe. She liked the frilly dresses she wore as a maid, but thought it would be great to contrast that with hard rock -- "cool music". She calls this "the gap": people see their maid outfits and expect soft pop, but are surprised to hear excellent hard rock instead. She loves the surprised look on people's faces when the band play their first chord at concerts.

Here are 2 reviews from their Lallapalooza sets. They have total control of their music, from creation to the order of the songs on their albums. The Maid costumes are to create the "Gap" meaning the difference in what your seeing, "demure maids" vs what you are hearing Hard Rock. CHICAGO SUN-TIMES The Japanese rock act is the quintessential example of not judging a book (or a band) by its cover. Inspired by everyone from Carlos Santana to Deep Purple and Smashing Pumpkins, but looking like demure movie characters, Band-Maid is a total exploration of contrast, and about as shock rock as you can be nowadays - not for the blood and gore of, say, GWAR, but for the immediate hypnosis they impart. - Selena Fragassi ROLLING STONE Japanese Rockers Band-Maid Put Guitar Center Showoffs to Shame There’s a pun to be made about how much Band-Maid ripped, but the Japanese group goes even harder than that. Fluctuating between hard rock, aughts nu-metal, and pop rock, each member of the quintet is a virtuoso in her own right with more than a decade of practice in Band-Maid alone. They lured curious onlookers into the fold when highlights like “Domination” and “Don’t You Tell Me” got huge reactions from the crowd, but it was the bass solo-versus-guitar solo duels mid-song that got the biggest cheers. This is what those guys in Guitar Center think their ridiculous riffing sounds like. Turns out it’s done best, and most effortlessly, by women in black-and-white maid dresses and frilly hair-pieces as they smile ear to ear. -N.C. There are 200+plus Rock/Metal bands in Japan with about half all female. You got a lot of catching up ahead of you. Next - Band Maid "Puzzle" Nemophila - "Revive" official live Lovebites - "Hammer of Wrath" live Have FUN!!!

Yes, Band-Maid is it's own genre. They do mostly hard rock but blend together pop, punk, metal, prog, fusion, jazz, hints of Broadway show tunes, Japanese Enka, folk metal, etc. - all mixed together with Japanese Maid Café culture, their own brand of goofy humor, a hard-working DIY never-say-die punk mentality, musical talent, and compositional genius. Band-Maid isn't like any other band on the planet. The "Day of the Maid - Manners/Black Hole" music video was released on May 10, 2021. See the joke? May 10 spells MAID? It was recorded at a Shibuya (Tokyo) venue used for live/taped television on February 11, 2021, as close to Valentines Day as they could schedule. Band-Maid had been scheduled to play Budokan, but that got cancelled due to Japan's lockdown extension, so instead Band-Maid played a live stream to their fan club members - a full concert at an empty venue, no audience except for their techs and the television production crew. Band-Maid loves to play hard and fast before a live audience. Their sets are generally 19-23 songs with a few "breaks" for audience interaction, a little over two hours long. Their concerts are pure energy from beginning to end. They have been together with the same members since 2013 and they are currently on their 10th anniversary tour which will end in November at Yokohama Arena.

Welcome to Band-Maid, this is the first part of an information file I post for people new to the Ladies of Band-Maid and their music. I have to split it to bypass the YT filter. Band Maid Is; (In order of joining band) Name/Age: Nickname: Position: Miku Kobato Small Pigeon/ Band Founder, Secondary Lead Vocalist, Rhythm Guitarist, Main Lyricist, Age: 31 Koba/Kuruppo/ Backing Vocals, Backing Tracks, Arrangements 10/21/91 Cluppo Kanami Tono Princess/ Lead Guitarist, Primary Composer, Backing Vocals, Keyboards, Backing Tracks Age: 31 Kanamincho/ Backing Vocals on Backing Tracks, Arrangements 9/28/91 Mincho Akane Hirose Gorilla/ Drums, Percussion, Backing Vocals on Backing Tracks, Backing Tracks, Age: 32 Ah-Chan Arrangements 12/14/90 MISA Barefoot Assassin/ 5 String Bass Guitar, Backing Vocals on Backing Tracks, Backing Tracks Age: 30 MISA-MISA-MISA Arrangements 10/15/92 Saiki Atsumi Ice Queen/ Primary Lead Vocalist, Backing Vocals, Lyricist, Backing Vocals on Backing Age: 29 Sai-Chan/ Tracks, Backing tracks, Arrangements 2/8/94 Sensei (Teacher) I can post the rest if someone would reply to this comment. And as for "Different", they have a song called "Different" they wrote for an Anime. Different along with Black Hole are two of the songs I call the Ferrets on Drugs songs, by the Ladies. They have a third Ferret on Drugs song, which is called Rinne or Reincarnation, which was filmed on Super 8, 8mm film cameras and 2 action cameras like a GoPro, because the Guitarist, Kanami, and the Drummer, Akane, were too fast for the film cameras 24 frames per second to pick up properly. And for Black Hole, Kanami the Lead Guitarist and Main Composer asked Akane the drummer just how many beat per minute she could play, and was told 170-180. She was then handed Black Hole which is 220 beats per minute. From the 2021 Player Magazine Interview with Akane: - This time the last song BLACK HOLE had a great impact. In your previous album, Rinne was awesome, though… Akane: I felt like “Finally this came!” (laughs) - Finally you played this. I wonder what you will do in the future… Akane: I wonder too (laughs). - Was it originally like this in the demo? Akane: Yes. I had to keep kicking (the bass drum) longer, but it had many parts a human can’t play, so I modified it within the range of a human drummer, and it’s still like this. As for the last bass drum pattern, I made seven or eight patterns, and they were like “Names like ‘1’, ‘2’, ‘3’ are not easy to get, so name them according to your level”, so I actually named them like “Easy, Comfortable, Normal, Possible if I work hard, Tough, Painful, Hell”, and they chose “Hell” (laughs). It’s the phrase named “Hell”. - (laughs) However, didn’t you expect them to definitely choose “Hell”? Akane: Yes, I expected. I was prepared for it. I was sure they wouldn’t choose “Easy”. And THAT is why so many of us LOVE these Five young women. They push themselves constantly to improve and to make the best music they can, ALL to serve their fans.

@@Greish-esquire Thankee Kind Sir. Here is the rest of that file. Band Maid was started in 2013 by Miku Kobato. At the time she had just left the Idol Group, Lil Cumin and she didn't like the type of music she had been performing. She approached her management agency with the idea of making an actual band playing rock music but dressed as maids. She had worked in a Maid Cafe and thought the image of maids playing rockin music would create what she called "The Gap" between what you see and what you hear. The Management company was like Ok, go ahead. Miku then looked around and found Kanami a singer/songwriter who was posting her own videos on the internet. Miku had her agency contact her and Kanami thought the idea was cool and agreed to join. Miku then asked if Kanami knew a drummer who might be interested. Kanami had worked with Akane in the past and there is 2 versions of this, the first is, Kanami literally walked over to Akane's apartment and asked her, the second is Kanami called Akane and asked her. (Akane has said in 2 different interviews that 1: Kanami called her and asked if she could come over and 2: in a second interview Kanami just came over) Akane was actually hesitant as she had worked in an "All Girl Group" before and didn't enjoy it as it wasn't the type of music she wanted to play. After hearing a Demo, Akane was like ok, but was still slightly hesitant because of the "Maid Outfits", but she agreed to give it a try. Akane was asked if she knew a bass player and she had gone to Tokyo School of Music with MISA and had worked a couple of jobs with her. So Misa was contacted and after she heard a demo she was like I like the music, but she also was hesitant about the "Maid Outfits", but she relented and joined in as she really wanted to play the kind of music she heard in the demo. The 3 of them then "Auditioned" for the record company and passed the audition. Now we have the "Core" members. The 4 members worked out some songs provided for them by the record company, and a setlist and they had performed 3 times with just Miku on main vocals. Miku after those performances felt that her voice wasn't powerful enough to really perform the songs she wanted. So she approached her management company again and asked if they had any singers who weren't in other projects. They then auditioned several singers. Miku heard Saiki rehearsing in a room across the hall and asked if she could be auditioned, the record company then had Saiki audition. Saiki was signed to the same management company and had done some work as a backup singer and dancer and was asked if she would be interested in auditioning for this new group which currently had 4 members and she would be the fifth. She had been a member of a group with 8 other people as a backup singer and dancer, and HATED it. So she listened to the demo and thought "Cool" because she liked the music. Now we come to the tricky part. Miku KNEW that if Saiki was told about the "Maid Outfits" she would say NO WAY!, so they didn't tell her. They told her they would have "Cool/cute Clothes"(I've read it translated either way), and she never met Miku until a few days before they had a contracted performance. She wasn't told about the "Maid Outfits" until the day before the performance, and she had considered backing out, but she had signed the contract. (Saiki also had NEVER met Miku until then as well) So the Ladies, went and did the performance and Saiki really, REALLY liked the crowds reaction and the music they were performing. She DIDN'T like the apron she wore so it got ditched after the first performance. And you now have the beginnings of the BEST LIVE HARD ROCK BAND in the WORLD! ALL HAIL BAND MAID!!!!! Now that we have the Full band, it was felt that there needed to be a second guitar. Saiki was like, "Not Me, No Way." So Miku said, "I'll do it.", at first that was literally all she did, was hold the guitar and mime playing it, until Akane said, if you are going to hold it, you NEED to learn to play it. And Miku said, "Ok.", and Kanami started to teach Miku how to play. The Ladies released their first album in 2014 "Maid in Japan" which failed to chart, but later after "Thrill" it was reissued and charted to #26 in Japan. Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning" On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence. "Thrill"... The band was getting ready to release their first music video and the choice was between "Love, Passion, Matador" and "Thrill" and the ladies chose Thrill. (Little known fact, Miku helped with the lyrics on Thrill but did not get credited) This became the seminal moment of Band Maid. Because their second album charted at #64, the record company was seriously considering disbanding the Ladies and switching them to other projects. (In fact they had Kanami and Akane work with Mochi to Cheese thinking that when Band Maid cratered they could use them in another band. MISA had also just started working with Mochi to Cheese as well). However about 6 months after the video's release, a Facebook page "JRock Radio" posted the video to their timeline. And the video went viral. Having over a million views in just a few short weeks. The Ladies Twitter page got so many hits they thought their page had been hacked. Their KZbin channel also started getting more and more subscribers and views to Thrill. Now the ladies knew where their fans wanted them to go. Harder Rock, less pop. And history was Maid. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask.

@@greylocke100 MISA was going to be in Mochi to Cheese? Did not know that. Mochi to Cheese is turning out to be a bit of a spawning ground with two (three?) ex-members in Band-Maid and another one in East of Eden (the vocalist). They might be a band to keep an eye on as well. A lot of star power there apparently, but the only other one I know is Yuki (D_Drive)

@@emcl When Predia Disbanded and did their final concert, they got MISA, Akane and Kanami to back them at their concert. There are several photos of them all together, with MISA, Akane and Kanami wearing a matching outfit of slacks, white shirt, tie and black shoes. When I first saw the photo on Predia's Twitter account the caption said that MISA, Akane and Kanami from Mochi to Cheezu and Band-Maid were backing them for that performance. If the translation by Google Translate is correct. My understanding is that MISA was still working several jobs in addition to being with Band-Maid and was having problems paying the bills. So her joining up with Mochi to Cheezu would give her another income stream for 3-5 performances a month.

Warning: There is no escaping the power of The Maids. Speaking of warning, Band-Maid actually has a song called "Warning" and it's a banger! I'd suggest the mv, as the sound is a bit better, but choose whatever strikes your fancy, cuz..."There is no escaping the power of The Maids!" 😂 Welcome to Band-Maid! 🕊

It's YOUR channel - as the song says "You can't please everyone, so you might as well please yourself". Do you, good or bad, and let the chips fall where they will - some will like what you do, some won't - it'll balance out in the end. The most important thing is to be honest. Personally, I like people commenting on the parts they really like, or dislike, if I just wanted to listen to the band/group being reviewed I'd go to their channel and listen from there, or use one of the other on-line providers. Use the left and right arrow keys to go back or forward in 5 second steps - going back gives better continuity, IMO, but it's up to you. Anyway, back to BM - they're good, aren't they, and you have SO much more to check out from their channel - www.youtube.com/@BANDMAID/featured - usually the live is better, as they really respond to the audience, but their M/Vs are by no means to be ignored, "Influencer" is an example of this, it's beautifully shot. If you haven't done so, you may like to check out the rest of the Japanese scene - Lovebites are more traditional "metal", but there are many bands between them and the 'Maids in style and sound.

With a name like Slitthroat i had to sub & you smoke proper cigs instead of that vape nonsense. If you're gonna kill yourself by smoking might as well do it right.👍 BAND-MAID sure ain't cookie cutter but if it's more Metal you like then check out their MV for "Rinne". It's about a serial killer who films his victims with an 8mm camera in the belief he can capture the moment on film when their souls leave their bodies. Yep, good, wholesome fare right there :)

Three days later and this reaction pops up in my search. Go figure. I subbed because he didn't use the word banger, or the even worse word "bangah" when describing BandMaid's song. :) Seriously, that was a good and genuine reaction and I think the hook is set deep.🪝

lol Gary is a smoking purist. 😝 Also found it a bit refreshing to see someone smoke instead of vape because I wasn't even sure if KZbin even allows cigarettes on this site anymore. And honestly, in a way I agree simply because I know people who never smoked anything who took up vaping, which is horrible on your lungs on its own. Of course, I'm very let adults do whatever the hell they want, so don't expect me to complain either way.

@@Parker-- Parker i agree with you entirely. There are plenty of things in life you shouldn't do, from smoking, what you eat & what you drink so i just do what makes me happy. Besides i could go out tomorrow & have a pub sign fall on my head & kill me. Wouldn't that be ironic, especially if the pub was called the "Dunn Inn".🤣

Thanks for the great reaction! If you love the drummer, you need to check out " BAND-MAID / FREEDOM (Official Live Video) " kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHnTpningqaWesk. The whole song is cool, and every band member crushes it, as they all do in every song. But Akane has a full 30 second solo that is my favorite solo on the planet, that fits seamlessly in the song. Thanks again.
