Band-Maid is a Japanese rock band formed in 2013, consisting of singer Saiki Atsumi, guitarist/singer Miku Kobato, lead guitarist Kanami Tōno, bassist Misa, and drummer Akane Hirose. The band combines a rock sound with a maid image modeled on Japanese maid cafés. They are currently signed to Pony Canyon. Their most recent studio recording, the EP Unleash, was released in September 2022.

One thing I love about Kanami is that she always leaves you wanting just a little bit more. She never over plays her solos. Always fits the song perfectly.

A couple of years ago, fans voted on the top 64 BAND-MAID songs in an online elimination battle and Moratorium came in 2nd behind Blooming. I love the heavy riffs in this song.

This song has everything in it - hard, fantastic riffs, a singalong, a Black Sabbath section, a catchy chorus and a killer guitar solo. In short, it is Band-Maid in a nutshell. That is to say, it's freaking phenomenal!! And the lead guitarist is Kanami (or Mincho).

Moratorium is definitely one of the BM fan favorites, especially in concerts. It's a perfect sing-along song mixed with metal riffs in all the right places. MISA is always a standout and this is no different, especially in live concerts. Her base tone just resonates. If you are fan of MISA, there is a YT BM concert in Chapel Hill by the channel Benjamin in 2019 which was videoed at 6' in front of MISA that captured all of her glorious playing. It was 90mins of MISA feast, Highly recommended.

Kanami... the lead guitarist. IMO the reason why she is so good is that she "serves the song". She is THE main songwriter and because of this she writes here solo's for the song. Trust me when I say that she know's all the "Tricks and licks". Kanami is just a Top Tier balanced musician.

Still in my top ten Band-Maid songs. The whole album Just Bring It is fantastic. Along with this is Puzzle, Secret My Lips, YOLO, Don't you Tell Me, Time. Just fantastic.

As great as this version of "Moratorium" from Zepp is, I wish that the Studio Coast version would start circulating again. Everything just sounds bigger and better in that version in my opinion. Great reaction JasoDip. Keep the BAND-MAID reactions coming! 😁

Kanami's biggest influences are Carlos Santana and Larry Carlton (a jazz guitarist).

KANAMI TONO (Kanamincho,Mincho) lead guitar, backing vocal, and composer and main arranger. We call her Kanami in her off-stage( being classy, polite, modest and adorable) or as a composer. We call her Mincho on stage (being aggressive with her guitar) .

Funny you mention Kirk Hammet. I remember seeing a video once where someone was summarizing rock and metal guitarists in one sentence. For Kanami he said: “if Kirk Hammet played in Iron Maiden”. That always amused me!

I can't remember if I told you that Rolling Quartz are coming to Melbourne and Sydney. I think the club they are playing at in Melbourne is pretty flash. I'm going back inside the machine and this time with an injection of something that they can trace. They are looking at my lungs they haven't said why but I guess it's cancer ofcourse that doesn't mean that I have cancer they are just looking. They are also looking at my brain 🧠. Thanks for checking out my favorite. It's just so much fun. It really does a bit of everything; super catchy vocal melody, light hearted, killer riffs, chonky guitars, Kanami adding random bits of guitar wankery, then the song has a bridge coming out of nowhere worthy of its own song, a huge crowd singalong, then blends the two together for a big chaotic finish. It even does the Saiki and Miku vocal tradeoff towards the end.

“Moratorium” is my favorite 🤘🏽 (today) Funny you immediately stopped in your tracks with what you thought was the chorus. Yes, my friend! It coulda/shoulda/woulda been a banger hit chorus for a normal band! But for Band Maid and Kanamincho, the Riff Goddess in sensible shoes, it’s just another prechorus giveaway. I refer to this song as their “Carry On Wayward Son” because of this. There are 3-4 riffs that could’ve easily been written out as their own song.

Another new band alert. BAND MAID has been the best find for me in years and I haven't listened to much more since discovering them. But on the weekend I found a band called "The Sixsters". No comparison to BAND MAID as they are in a league of their own. However, The Sixsters are a band everyone needs to hear (in my opinion). A five piece all female group from Ukraine - I read they were in Germany now because of the war in Ukraine Try "Feels" - "Hold" - "Fever" - "City" ... and there's more. WELL worth a listen. One thing I like to point out about listening to Band-Maid is the DANGER of listening to them while driving. Next thing you know you're pushing 80, 90, 100 without realizing it. Their music "drives you."

If you like Kanami's "Style", check out "Matchless Gum" and/or "Awkward" live from Line Cube Shibuya. Not many reactor's do these 2 but the ones that do are blown away - then again, what BAND MAID song doesn't. I shake my head daily at how much talent comes outta one person ... oh an the rest of the band as well haha. New Subby from Aust.

JasoDip "Moratorium" is one of my favorite songs. The bass by Misa, the drums by Akane, and especially the guitar licks by Kanami are so damned cool! During the video you should focus on Kanami's blazingly fast and furious riffs. Kanami hits those notes so fast without even looking at her guitar. Amazing!!!!!
