Mincho, the riff queen. She puts more different riffs in one song than most bands put in ten. If you like lyrics you should watch it again and concentrate on the story of this song. Some the deepest and most moving lyrics Miku has ever written. I consider this to be one the most perfectly written and composed songs, not just by Band Maid, but in all of rock. My favorite from the first time I heard it.

A great rocking song with a sad story. Miku said the second description of the song is accurate, the affair with a married man. Read the lyrics at the beginning and the end. The piece of the puzzle she needs is finally in place and at the end the puzzle falls apart.

Miku's harmony vocal make this song perfect. I marvel at the way she can sing both low harmony under Saiki and high harmony over Saiki. Her plaintiff screams are epic in both this an Influencer.

Highly suggest checking out the official live video of manners/blackhole. Two of my personal favorites and it very dramatically shows how contrasting two band-maid songs on the same album can be. They are from one of the online stream concerts they did during the pandemic. But you know by now you legitimately cant go wrong with picking any song in their catalog.

There's no conclusive #1 by any means, but Puzzle is a very common top 5 or top 3. So much to love from this band. It used to have an older official live video but it was pulled off their channel years ago for some reason.

Was at this TGT show to begin the 10th Anniversary tour. Nearly 8K fans. "Bookending" with the Tour final at Yokohama Arena (17Kish capacity) on Turkey dinner weekend. Got to see them a few time in between this year and last year in CA and Tx, and, yes, they are exceptional live. 🦍🍌

1) What do I think about Band Maid? They’re the most fun, interesting, entertaining, musically diverse and unique hard rock band I’ve ever heard. (56 years of music) 2) This song? Top tier songwriting and arrangement. Powerful lyrics and complex, bombastic guitars. Personally in my top five all time. 3) Your reaction? As always, obviously sincere, funny, and thoughtful. Band Maid have so many facets to their music; nobody can really understand what they do listening to less than 10-15 songs. I would love to see how you respond to any of these, if any description catches your interest: “From Now On,” official music video, heavy metal instrumental, their song without words, musical verses and choruses, movement and dynamics. “Moratorium,” live @Zepp Tokyo. You like the Kanami riffs? Riff overload, hard driving, Alice in Chains-esque bridge/solo; an epic rock song “Puzzle,” acoustic live, Saiki and Kanami, alone in the spotlight with a version of the song you just heard performed with heart-wrenching vocals. As differently beautiful as Eric Clapton’s unplugged version of “Layla”

Dan, To see how incredible Saiki, their vocalist is, you should react to "Puzzle", the official acoustic version of this song. While the live version is wonderful, the acoustic version is the same song with the same lyrics, but with completely different emotional impact from Saiki's amazing voice.

As others have said Puzzle acoustic is also a must, it's a tearjerker even more so if you do it with Anemone acoustic as they played the 2 back to back, even Saiki looks watery eyed towards the end of Anemone, both also feature Kanami's sweet backing vocals. Anemone (studio version) is worthy of it's own reaction even though it has to be audio only, it's my fvourite BM song, everything about it is brilliant but Akane's drumming in particular is sublime. There are some live fancams versions of the 'full' version but it is slightly stripped back from the original.

This is the video you point to when you want to show people what Band-Maid is all about. The song is about a woman who is having an affair. Meeting him for the first time she fell immediately in love: he being the puzzle piece that fell into place, completing her "Puzzle", even though she soon realizes that he is married and carrying on multiple affairs with other women. The song describes the inner turmoil she experiences and the excuses she makes for continuing the affair even though she knows she is being used. These are a typical Miku Kobato lyric and Band-Maid composition, exquisitely and cleverly crafted.

Great song and loves Kanamis licks. Since she is the main composer, I wonder... what came first: the song or the riff? My favourite must be "Blooming", absolute stunner of a song. Well composed in every single part. Normally I would go for live, but seems like they slow down a bit so Saiki can get through some of the verses. It's very fast and close to rapping. So go for the music video.

It depends on what you mean by "song" and "riff." With all of their songs, the music is composed first. She probably starts with the chord progression or maybe the actual main riff (possibly on piano initially). She uses different variants of that open-string toggling motif (the continuous "AC/DC-Iron Maiden" lick) in several songs. It's part of her style. So, I'd guess she added that later. I can't pretend to know what her typical process is but she's got a long classical music background, so it makes sense that she starts with the melodic foundation.

I would like to protect the copyright of BAND-MAID's works as much as possible. However, these two works have been removed from KZbin for various reasons. And the re-release of those two works is also in a hopeless state. Some of it is available for viewing on a limited basis, but even that is a problematic form of release. (There are various opinions on this matter). The two works are live performances from 2017' and 2018', and include "Puzzle". They remain on Chinese video sites that are not involved in copyright. Therefore, I will list the Google search terms for watching the 2017' and 2018' live performances. Did Miku write the lyrics? If so, man you can hear the pain in her harmony wailing...this song sounds like an experience that whoever wrote the lyrics (Saiki? Miku and Saiki?) actually experienced.

No, it's apparently not biographical. As is the case with a lot of Miku's lyrics, it's written from the point of view of a fictional character--a woman who falls for a married man who, she realizes, will never leave his wife. Not sure if the song is that literal in Japanese, but that's the situation that inspired the lyrics. Of course, I'm sure she (and Saiki) can relate to dealing with an uncommitted/unattainable romantic interest. Most people have been there. The lyrics to "Hate?" were written (by Saiki) from the point of view someone who's been cheated on. It was inspired by news reports of increased infidelity during the pandemic (and also quite possibly because one of Saiki's friends--a very famous Japanese singer--was one of the victims). Saiki was pretty saddened and angry about it. I wouldn't want to make Saiki angry...
