I actually really like this band, especially their earlier albums, what You said at 14:26 regarding the solo is what I often struggle with lately. Anyways, keep on reacting

This is basically the blue-print of their current sound when Kanami was clearly experimenting with her H9 harmonizer pedal, which she still uses a lot nowadays. This is probably the first track where it was really upfront in the mix and it was probably their fastest (or one off the fastest) tracks back then. An other one has this sound a bit and was a tough sell for a lot of fans is "Different", which released a bit later, but might have been written about this time since it was for an Anime which was delayed. I also assume they had to learn how to produce this type of song better, which might not help. That said, while I personally like this track a lot, I can totally see why it's not for everyone.

No apologies necessary. This song really threw me for a loop the first time I heard it though it has grown on me now that I know what to expect. In particular I kept stumbling over the time signature changes but Akane's blistering double kicks kept drawing me back. I'm a bit embarrassed to say that these days I take great pleasure seeing others get thrown by it as well. Somehow Band-Maid always makes me smile. BTW - Ground rule double is the term you were looking for.

Excellent review. The song is the B-side to the 2018 single Start Over, right after World Domination. At that time the girls began to evolve their sound adding a more progressive and sometimes more aggressive profile. These are the seeds of much of their later work (from Different to much of Unseen World for example). For me it is their most excessive experiment but it has the attractive of being the first step in part of what they have written later. Thank you!

This song is barely controlled chaos. That's why it's called Screaming. Think of what state of mind you have to be in to reach the point where you're screaming your head off. Where you're on the verge of completely losing your shit. Now the musical composition makes sense.
@falconsooner9 ай бұрын
The studio version of this song isn't the best IMO but it is killer live. Really ramps up the energy and has become a crowd favorite. Saiki typically sings it with great attitude and Kanami goes into her Mincho mode.

There have been a few songs that have not landed too much with me but this wasn't one of them. I actually really liked this one. It sounded a little chaotic, but it worked well for me, I would like to hear the live version.
@russellpotter72949 ай бұрын
The riff always reminds me of Eaton Rifles by The Jam. Is it hectic and sometimes uncontrolled? Certainly hectic and maybe it is the recorded mix. But it has a good catchy line in there and after a few repeated playings it may grow on you. I liked it but if people are not fans of the wilder side of The Maids then fair enough. I know some fans would prefer this type of sound to modern Maid. So it is all in the ear of the beholder.

I’m guessing the original link was to a fan cam video from the Welcome to Rockville festival last year. Saiki’s vocals sounded way better in that one, and Kanami was dancing around like a lunatic the whole time.

'Stretch Adams' channel has a decent recording of the 5-18-23 Rockville concert. A good version of 'Screaming" at the 15:44 mark. Also a good version of 'One And Only' at 4:41 and 'Blooming' at 8:06. For anyone who wants to take a look.

@@Metal_Auditor Although, my guess is the original link probably was taken from the official fan site video archive, behind a paywall. I saw a good post a few months ago. It's gone. Not sure what concert that was.

But if you want five cups of coffee without drinking five cups of coffee, do some LIVE!!: “Screaming” This Band-Maid Rockville performance is as World Domination worthy as it gets... for any band. The security guard and side stage gathering is fun to watch, too. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJu9nIGbpKygnsU Thx, David!

I don't think you will be surprised by this one bit, but this one is a B-Side on the Start Over single. When I looked it up, it was going to be on the Conqueror album, but it was replaced by Dilemma instead. It's also a song that makes it into set lists pretty frequently. Funny thing is I like this song live but don't particularly care for its studio version. Not sure why that is. If you want to stick with the baseball analogy, I would score this a single off a grounder that took a weird hop. :)
@andersmorell53969 ай бұрын
Thank you for your reaction. I don't really care about scores so much, may be fun but little more, but I'm interested in what reactors say. You did say your opinion and explained why so all is well and good. I recall adding this song to a playlist, as I overlooked it earlier and found it thanks to a cover, that I do like, by Band Maiko and wanted to compare the two. The BM song doesn't stand out as a favorit of mine, I can listen to it, sure, if it starts on the playlist I let it continue. About it feeling disjointed, I took a quick look at a translation of the lyrics and, as careful as one should be with translations, it would make sense if they tried to echo the panic in the lyrics. If that is well done or not I leave to others but it could explain the character of the composition and production feeling disjointed. As a thanks I give you a suggestion, Wicked Witch by Lovebites. Have fun! :)

I think the chorus feels more composed (no pun intended), but overall 'frantic' is a good description. The baseball analogies are fun; I'm thinking this is like a somewhat awkward swing that gets a line drive right at one of the infielders.
@RaginKavu9 ай бұрын
Oh well, its bound to happen. Specially with a band with as many songs as BM has. Yeah, not my favourite by them too, and at least now I know why. The lack of "control" as DH said is what was bugging me this whole time. Well, I guess this is the exception that proves the rule, right?
@throwaway93899 ай бұрын
I think you nailed it. It sounds like it could fly apart, but it's really nicely wrapped. I had to count time and stomp my foot like my life depended on it to get through the song and start to enjoy it. I do agree re. Kanami's guitar solo--not my favorite. A fun song live. Cheers.

That opening riff has always made me anxious. I don't particularly care for that octave pedal Kanami uses, and this was around the time she went batshit with it. She has reigned it in recently, though. I don't hate it, but it's never a go-to song for me. As a bunch have said, it's better live.

One of those Band Maid songs that for me does not jell. Fortunately out of their extensive catalogue, again for me there are a few misses. Not many though. When I first heard it, I thought not again that Saiki's stronger and improved voice has been electronically tweaked to death. Leave Kanami alone! If Kanami wants to do a weird solo, so be it. 🤪 This is a difficult song to analyse , react and review so I would have scored it very similarly to you. Maybe lower.

No probs David. Better to play lessor known songs than not at all. From the Start Over single 2018 which also inc Secret Maiko Lips. It's beautifully out of control, but Band-Maid never loose it. No other band could manage this. Akane rules.
@joelbroncos9 ай бұрын
Many fans love this song but for me it is definitely in the lower half. Akane and Kanami show a lot of talent but i never liked Saiki's mix on this track, Miku's backing clashes with Saiki's and is overall messy, it is not terrible but not very good and i rarely come back to this track.

@@falconsooner Yes. Anyone who knows the path of the Maids and knows even a little bit about music may recognize an impressive line of permanent development. Screaming was the first - and IMHO very successful - experiment in controlled chaos that ultimately found its masterful culmination in UW.
