Don’t over think it. They met at a California festival a couple years ago and had instant chemistry. TW traveled to Japan, helped tweak the track that BM had written, rehearsed it, shot the video, performed it live together in Tokyo, developed a deep friendship as both bands look forward to working with each other in the future. Both bands were a fan of each other. The two bands met at Aftershock festival 2022, where their press booth was next to each other and The Warning members approached BAND-MAID during the interviews. There are short clips and photos available for the incident. They immediately agreed upon doing a collaboration. The Warning was to have their first Japan Tour in June 2024. So, Kanami from BAND-MAID created the initial music and sent it to The Warning in late 2023. Then both bands collaborated online with their ideas and improved the song together. BAND-MAID members recorded their instrumental parts in advance, before The Warning visited Japan. The Warning visited Japan at beginning of June 2024. The Warning members recorded their instrumental parts after arriving in Japan. Pau actually used Akane’s drum kit to record. The original lyrics were written by Miku from BAND-MAID, and it was finalized together through discussion with The Warning, when they were together in Japan. The vocal parts and gang vocal parts were recorded together in Japan. Also the MV was filmed during the stay in Japan. On June 12th, BAND-MAID and The Warning had a special one night only concert together at Roppongi EX, and they performed this song together on stage. There’s leaked live video of the performance. There’s also a vlog by The Warning about the behind the scenes of creating the song together and live show.

Band Maid is certainly bigger in Japan, but I think TW has a larger international following now based on their social media metrics, and the fact that they speak and sing fluently in 2 of the 3 most widely spoken languages in the world. As a collaboration, the song is a necessary compromise in styles, and not the best representative of either band’s discography. Fair score. 😎👍

Yes TW has a bigger following and market themselves a little better imo. BMs style doesn't translate well around the world like TWs style does.

Band-Maid is essentially a prog band, with pop choruses to distract you from the fact that they're prog. It helps, and puts them in the sweet spot for me, but it's just not as accessible.

Yes, I think David is wrong on this point, The Warning has a broader fan base spread throughout the world and their exposure in large showcases such as recently at the EMA's and the Grammys position them better.

I think TW is internationally bigger due not only talent and charisma, but to a better strategy marketing. TW did a real tour in latin America, US, Europe an Asia includind Japan. B-M on the other side does not tour outside Japan, not all of their catalog is in Spotify, and is doomed to remain with only a die hard fan base.

So TW and B-M met at a US festival in 2022 and said they should collaborate. They got that opportunity this year. TW went to Japan and played three shows, one with Band-Maid. TW traveled to Japan two weeks early to write/compose/record with B-M and record a MV. They then played it together at their one concert together. In an interview on the PRS channel, Kanami and Dany said that more collaborations are in the future. Kanami wants B-M to go to Mexico and and Dany wants the collab to be in Spanish. Dany and Kanami play similar PRS guitars in the same color. There is now a behind the scenes video of the two bands together on TW's YT channel.

The 2 bands first met at Aftershock festival in 2022. The song is on the new Band Maid album, but they all worked on it. The Warning went to Japan last June to play 3 shows, 1 with Band Maid. They went over a couple weeks early, got together, finished the song, and shot the mv. They did play it at the 1 joint show, with all 8 ladies on stage, but only a teaser clip of that has been officially released. In a PRS Guitars Japan interview with Dany and Kanami, they mentioned that the 2 bands should get together again in Mexico with Dany making the challenge to do a song in Spanish.

Thanks again from Japan 有難う 💛。I witnessed the live debut of this song 😍 that was played together (once and only to date) as the encore & finale of the special concert by Band-Maid & The Warning on June 12 in Roppongi, Tokyo . My seat was located on the 2nd floor but in the center meaning in front of the two drummers. I was in bliss! It looked to me that Paulina and Akane literally and happily competed like a duel to see which drummer can kick harder enough to break their bass drum in the joint performance. 🤣 (FYI : In the special concert, The Warning, who opened as the special guest, performed so powerful that the Maids were fired up to start their turn with fullest energy as the hostess band. It was fun like a kind of show-offs by two martial art fighters respecting each other. 😄) Note : Please check a video recently released in The Warning official channel that captures beautiful friendship with Band-Maid. The collaboration behind *SHOW THEM* started when The Warning and BAND-MAID met at the Aftershock Festival in 2022 and immediately connected. They decided to work together, and in June 2024, The Warning traveled to Japan to bring the song to life. Kanami from BAND-MAID laid down the initial demo, and both bands shared ideas and reworked it until they had a track that truly represented both groups. The lyrics, co-written by Miku and The Warning, focus on strength and unity. The song was also performed live together in Tokyo during The Warning's visit. For a closer look at the making of the song, there’s a behind-the-scenes vlog on The Warning's KZbin channel that shows the bands working together in Japan, along with footage of their time there. When you stated that Band Maid is bigger than The Warning, I had to go re-check. Not as a fan boy, just numbers-wise. I remembered thinking the same thing when the video came out but proved myself wrong when I compared the two strictly on their KZbin channels. The Warning has more subscribers. More of their official videos over the last couple years are outperforming Band Maid as well. If you look look at it as recent success, you would have to give it to The Warning. I was surprised at that result but it makes sense. I think a lot of it has to do with more songs in English and constant North and South American, and European touring the last couple years. Not trying to be contrary, just passing on my own research which focuses on numbers rather than perception.

Hi Dave. Many comments below would have filled you in on the origins of the collab. So I only have 1 thing to add - MUTUAL RESPECT, something that fandoms could learn. You are spot on regarding the lack of trying to outdo the other, and members of both bands spent quite a deal of time with each other. The RESPECT between both bands, and individuals is present not only in the video and the initial performance (live) , but also with the typical DPA recording everything both pre and post collab. Ego is not present anywhere. And you are spot on regarding complimentary performance. Not to mention the vocal blending was nearly perfect. Cheers from OZ 🦘

Saiki told us that she and Dany first thought the song was written for the other’s vocal range. When they realized in person that wasn’t the case, they were confused and tried to figure out why. Eventually, Saiki figured out that Kanami had set the song in a higher key on purpose to challenge them. It was a way to push them out of their comfort zones and make the song better. Once they understood that, they were determined to take on the challenge and nail the performance. 🤘

KZbin subscribers (TW has 842K, BM has 722K, according to KZbin analytics, in the last month TW has double the Global Views of BM). Spotify monthly listeners ? (BM has about 1/4 of TW) , Billboard chart placements? (TW overwhelmingly ) The number of Tour dates, Festivals attended, etc. ( all heavily favour TW). International Market penetration also heavily favours TW, They are well known in Europe, and despite the fact the BM has played more concerts outside of Japan in Europe than anywhere else. They have had relatively little market penetration there. There was a bit of a bump in KZbin views for both bands following this collaboration.

As somebody said. No need to overanalyse it. The girls met 2 years back, and they said: we have to do something together. Might be because they like and admire each other, or that they know their fanbases crosses between the bands. I like both so.. We know that Kanami did make the blueprint and Miku put down some lyrics over a year ago, so the sisters looked on it, sent back some ideas. Then early 2024 it was deicided that TW would have a mini tour in Japan. With 2 solo concerts and share stage with the maids. I would claim that TW is a slightly bigger band than B-M internationally. The push on MTV last year has helped massively and warming up for Muse, Foo Fighters etc. But if you look at Japan.. no doubt that Band-Maid is bigger. So sharing a stage as a relatively unknown band, is a big honour and probably had great promotional value for the sisters. In a interview on PRS-Japan, Dany and Mincho did say that they were already planning to do a similar collab in Mexico. Next year or 2026? We'll see.. but they seems to agree and was pumped on working together again.... Though there were some moments they got lost in translation. The thought of the song was more of a promotional tool, to expose both bands to each fanbases. And about female empowerment... My guess is that next collab will be written by The Warning, but with contributions by the maids and played together by both bands. I would guess they will do a video too, and that it will be shared on TWs KZbin.

Who's bigger? Both bands have been around just over 10 years, BM has toured more in that time but now that TW have become adults they've been touring monsters. BM has a larger discography but TW has what appears to be a bigger social media presence. I like both bands, although I would call myself more of a Band-Maid fan but there is no question for me that The Warning is the "bigger" band of the two for the reasons you have said. As far as Band-Maid goes, I am not sure how big they actually are in Japan since the Japan music scene is a very different animal compared to the Western scene and it is very difficult to break out there with how many extremely technically talented bands there are out there. As an example I have found a couple of extremely talented bands that have a couple 100 subs and seemingly can't break out unfortunately. Overall it is difficult to say, they have had shows in 10000+ people venues so they certainly aren't small over there and have had some TV/radio appearances and things like that. Their current label Pony Canyon (who are know for distributing anime as well as music) certainly helps them getting more known. I think the biggest gig they have done (in numbers) was probably opening for Gun 'N Roses in a 22000 people arena. I am pretty sure The Warning has played in bigger arenas, so I would still give it to them although it isn't by a landslide.

this wasn't a collaboration, it was the formation of a new supergroup. the song as a whole wasn't what either band would normally do but works for either band. trying to feature 8 artist could have turned into a big mess. they all got a little bit of time to shine but not so much that it turned into a mess. The Warning has a behind the scenes video of the making of this and they all had a great time despite the language barrier. the two introverts Ale and Missa were very sad when The Warning left. Band Maid wrote the song for the collaboration, and when The Warning went to Japan on their tour The Warning met with Band Maid to finish the song and made some small changes, and do the video. Band Maid and The Warning débuted the song live at the show The Warning opened for. both sides were pretty tightlipped about this goin on. but when The Warning went to Japan around a week earlier than their show date we though (and hoped) that they might have been up to something. they met at aftershock festival in 2022 and were fans of each other from the very beginning. there is a PRS video with Danny and Kanami and there was a teaser that they would like to do another collaboration when Band Maid is in Mexico. It was the Maids welcoming TW to Japan...Kanami wrote the basic music, doing what she does...pushing everyone somewhere new (both main singers to higher pitches) then TW gave input to music and they, with Miku, wrote lyrics in English. TW girls came to Japan, recorded it and performed it in live gig together. Apparently MISA's ending was a tribute to a TW song...a lot of love between these 8 ladies...tears when they had to part. As a Maidiac I do need to make time and hear plenty of TW songs...for 3 sisters to be as good as everyone says is quite some achievement. At 54 years old I want new ideas in rock songs, which the Maids deliver by the bucketload....and no one can touch MISA for the shear workload and contribution she's bringing to songwriting and performing in the last couple of years. Sexy performance and slut-drops are all well and good but you don't get that on CD so the songs have gotta win me over....compositions need to shine for me to open my wallet (I've collected all the Maids audio/video releases, limited editions...a happy but not unsubstantial investment). Fair score David...I'm hoping you'll review the Maid's 'Forbidden Tale' MV some time...a LOT of song to get your teeth into 👌🤘🤘🤘 Has anyone done a paid request for it?

I'm a fan of both bands, but calling Ale a Slut is pretty harsh.

Band Maid dips its toes in lots of stuff, but they've managed to always regain focus. I'd bet this is a one-off. They are too similar to each other--The Warning and Band Maid--to maintain their separate identities in the market, should they in some way "merge" or combine. But, who knows...The "familiarity breeds contempt" lesson falls to everyone, eventually...

As far as the collab, it goes back to 2022 and others explained it better than I will. I love that Band Maid are doing Collabs, but its an average song for them for me, nothing I will ever put on repeat or even put on a specific playlist. As far as tours, there is a reason I don't go to to festivals. I want to hear the band I love for two hours, not an hour so I will not be hoping for a joint tour. Do I suspect if Band Maid comes to America that the Warning may show up at a concert (or two) or if the Warning goes to Japan again, they will appear together for a show (or two).

Hi David, can you say "Hi"🙂👋 to Mrs Heretic for me, i haven't seen her for a while & i don't think you've killed her so she'll appreciate the gesture. Ta :)

I wasn't a fan of BMs singing in this one but still a cool collab. Hope you get a chance to check out Sharks or Apologize by The Warning soon.

As a Warning fan the song wouldn't be close to be in their top 30 songs. Can't speak for Band Maid as never heard anything from them.

I am sure it's the same thing for a lot of Band-Maid fans as well since they have well over 100 tracks, it certainly is for me. But while I am more of a Band-Maid fan as I like a lot of changes in my music which The Warning generally doesn't do as much, I do enjoy both bands and own both of their discographies on CD. All in all I do think the track does what it needs to do and shows off both bands without it sounding too busy with there being so many musicians.

Each band can write better songs on their own than this. It's a fun song and I really appreciate the collab. Thanks David.

The Warning is the biggest band, the one who benefits the most is Ban Maid, The Warning is 4 times more popular and listened to than Bandmaid

To be honest Dave, I'm no disrespect to Band-Maid, I’m a simple person, I prefer music that’s easy on the ears and easy on the eyes (TW) 🥰. Agree with your score.

I'm a The Warning fan first, but you haven't listened to enough Band-Maid music to justify what you're saying. Yes, they are very technical, but they have a lot of songs that are also catchy and easy to listen to as The Warnings. Plus, if they wore more sexy clothing, they also would be easy on your eyes, but thats not their thing. Its all in fun.

@@FunEcar like I said, No disrespect to BM, and it's my opinion.But I've listened to some of their songs, and it takes multiple listens to really get into it. It's different with TW-one listen and it hits right away. Also, I don't really like the way Saiki pronounces English songs; it's different from Dany's. ✌🤘

See, while Dave said either band could have wrote this, I think ANY band could have wrote this. Sounds like a good Collab that worked, but didn’t go to the next level of being GREAT. See Mercury/Bowie. Maynard/Chino?

Lol bandmaid is not the bigger band. Warning has toured the world . The band are friends and toured in Tokyo and colored and wrote song together and played a concert together

Ale pops and slaps with more ability that is ever really shown. She likes playing RHCP stuff and talks about how fun it is playing Flea stuff. She just uses NONE of that when it comes to The Warning songs. It just wouldn't fit... at least, so far.

1. A Warning zenekar jó. nagyon jó. Nagy rajongótáborral. ÁM A Band Maid zseniális, egy hatalmas, és "mániákus" rajongótáborral. Csupán csak ennyi... Különbség? Warning band is good. very good. With a large fan base. BUT Band Maid is brilliant, with a huge and "maniacal" fanbase. It's just that... Difference? :D I strongly suspect that the two bands are NOT compatible. Not even if Band Maid is a "wide scale" band, without selfishness. However, it is very good that the seven girls get along. But. I think(!!) the song is "forced". That's my feeling. (Yes, subjective on my part.) So.... I don't know... :D

Well, after reading through the comments here, I have not the impression of their fanbases being on the same page. I think that´s wishful thinking.
@Oldmarty22 сағат бұрын
Where did you read that from? Coffee grounds? Many Warnings fans also have a preference for the Japanese all femail bands. Not just Band Maid.
@klauskriegbaum279522 сағат бұрын
@@Oldmarty Well , from the many comments here stating that´s a too simple song, and they don´t like the mixing of the voices. I´m not a huge Band-maid fan, but always thought that Band-maid is as far as I´m concerned the only Japanese Band that I like, but now I´m thinking Japanese bands have have all that toxic fandoms. So, be happy with your band but don´t try to convert me!
