I still think the ultimate version of this is on the Shinkiba Studio Coast Okyuji Autumn-Winter 2017 live concert (Nov 24 2017) bonus DVD sold with the special edition of Domination. It's one of my Band Maid favorites. Unfortunately, it isn't a stand-alone post anywhere to be found anymore. The entire concert can be found several places. "Secret My Lips" is the second from last song on the setlist.

Still my favorite BAND-MAID song, and it's from my favorite BAND-MAID album. They really brought it on this one. : ) Although it's a completely different vibe, 'Secret Maiko Lips' is up there for me as well. They played 'Secret My Lips' the first time I saw BAND-MAID live. I could have died happy right there.

Hello. I'm always enjoying your reaction in Tokyo. Although they are the most underrated musicians in Japan, they have been treated as geniuses by professional musicians since their debut. They are the Underground Emperors. As you can understand, their composition and skills are at different levels.

I agree...though it may not be as puzzling as it seems. IMHO there are quite a few English speaking folks who will refuse to give a non-english speaking band a chance(no matter how good they are).They truly have NO clue that they are practicing musical snobbery in its highest form. Classical music in multiple languages is fine but popular music in a foreign tongue is not ?? I don't speak Japanese,but in classic Band Maid conquering form they have made the language irrelevant. Their language is a brand of music that is born of a confluence of outstanding talents brought together,(almost by chance) to produce some of the best music I have heard since the 1980's. As I said, it's only opinion...The literal feeling of "goose bumps" that I feel when listening to Blooming or Puzzle is similar to the reaction I had when started listening to Crowded House in the 80's. Some might see this as a sh***y comparison but I hope you see my point.

I like this version over Maiko-version as well. My favorite hard rock song with Domination for long time until latest album. Akane's drum shines more, also IMO.

there's so many highlights in this song, but what stood out for me is the soba/ramen muse's kick drum on the second pre-chorus -- a forceful canter to a full gallop at the turn of a measure.

Just reading the chat during the video about Yoshiki being a fan and following them on Twitter. I didn’t know that! And he sends them flowers at the big venues! The man’s a musical giant as well as a World Class Gentleman.💪🏻🤘🏻

I'm one of the chat people (-> wowka2b0b). I don't know if you looked things up further on this, but a short (hmmm...) summary as far as I remember. The members of X-Japan attended some aftershow/backstage party of some band (don't remember that the particular event was exactly), which Miku also attended as a guest. She basically appeared in her Band-Maid uniform (hmm... or not, might have been casual, not sure) and took her chance to talk to the legends :D She basically gone full Miku-Po on them. Yoshiki later said in an interview that a goofy, weird girl appeared, talked about how she is in a "maid" band, rocking hard, spoke highly about her band-members etc. Talked like a bird, with weirdo sounds everytime, but she was very charismatic at the same time. She invited X-Japan to check out the upcoming Band-Maid live performance on "Asakasa Blitz" (Q1 2017), where this MV shots were taken from. Yoshiki was interested - more like curious whether she could follow it up - and they actually attended (I don't know if the full band was there, but Yoshiki was not alone). Later he said that the show was actually very good, was very impressed, didn't expect them to be actually this good (sure a lot of fans/small bands would hype things up, without actually be good enough, dude has a looong carrier and has seen all sort of things...). He later - not right after the show, but later - met all the other B-M members and they keep in touch, so this connection is still a thing to this day. Miku and Saiki also appeared in a TV interview/show alongside Yoshiki. Saiki was basically "shy fan-girling", hasn't said much, and when she said something it was with a low, kinda shaking voice and big eyes. Miku on the other hand was Miku in full promo-Po mode - she really doesn't seem to care if she talks to "some legend" at all, after a very short sight of nervousness, she settles and unleashes the "PO!" on everyone. At the end Saiki sang X-Japans "Endless Rain" with Yoshiki accompanying her on piano. Miku was behind the camera trying to support her. Fair to say: Saiki's performance wasn't good ^^ She was shaking, you could VERY clearly hear the nervousness in her voice, she forgot the text near the 3rd part of the song. She tweeted herself saying basically the same. After all - it was her dream, long-time Yoshiki fan and all. After the song, Miku was also very happy and all smiles for Saiki (as said - she knew Saiki kinda butchered it - it didn't matter, she was genuinely full on support). There was speculation in the fanbase that Miku should have sing that one, she would have done better etc etc. - and I think so too, but it doesn't matter in the end. They tried to push Saikis self-confidence since the beginning, Saiki in 2017 wasn't like she is now. Also B-M writes songs with Saikis vocals in mind ;) You can still find some short bits from the TV-show and song-performance on the internet somewhere, doubt the full one is available though. But Yoshiki and B-M still keep in touch, so that hasn't changed.

I definitely get what Alan is saying here at the end. The Maid version has less going on, so the changes in the song feel much more pronounced and give it, while not a progressive song per se, more progression through the song. The Maiko version, even though it has the exact same changes, is less pronounced because the changes make up a smaller percentage of the song and the extra instrumentation obfuscates the changes going on. That said, they each have their place. Maid version is when you just want to listen to the song. Maiko version is for when you want that extra kick to keep the pace up, like say after Black Hole. Secret Maiko Lips is the extra spicy edition.
