Tony Visconti: "I love the originality of BAND Maid. It was like a dream come true to meet them. During recording Miku and Saiki sang for 8 eights straight. I don't know many artists with that kind of stamina. I was taken a back by their professionalism. They definite met my expectations." From JRock News November 2019. Something to aspire too!!

Yep, love this song. You got the gist of the sound, it is 1960's/70's psychedelic bluesy Hendrix etc. I have seen some comments in past months since this came out last February that they don't think this is Band-Maid's sound. In a way they are right because this was produced by Visconti. But I say that BM hit this on the nail. This is BM, they can do anything. Heck, Saiki sang in all-English. You never know what subgenres they will do next. Of course, it's still going to be within the rock genre though, you're not going to see them doing western Opera, EDM, Mongolian throat singing, or U.S. country/western. Or maybe they can, they've already done traditional Japanese influences with their Band-Maiko alterego.

I like this song. It shows their diverse appearance. In Japan, singers and actors tend to hate talking about politics and society. The song is not political, but it shows that they live in this world and are interested in society. I think it's wonderful that women in maid clothes talk about society and our future. BAND MAID isn't just about cute hard rock. It is an independent band in today's society.

Not many people consider this to be a good song, they confuse listening to the song with the video! In Japanese culture, dragons represent wisdom. The video that you see is a metaphor as an outcome of our decisions we made throughout the years that has compromised everything around us. Every decade it worsens, the dragon (life) cries, the dragon flies simply means that the wisdom we perceive continues in a negative fashion

Nobody really knows when this song got its meaning. They had some original lyrics, which got replaced for the current fully English lyrics by an associate of Tony Visconti (who always has to be referred to as 'legendary producer Tony Visconti') but there's no information about what the original ones were about, or even what the guy who wrote these lyrics wanted it to be about. Nobody seemed to have a clue what the song was about until the video came out, but whether the video was the director's interpretation of the song, the original sentiment behind the song, or the lyric writer's intention...nobody knows. It makes the song...mysterious.

Because if the sound they capture here. Like you guys said 70s rock sound. Now I guess since they dropped Manners and everyone's been listening to it this song sounds less surprising since they capture that 70s tone and rock groove in that song. I saw someone mention in the comments this song was Manners beta test lol so funny. Thanks again for another awesome video!

Kind of weird knowing you guys already did this before Manners. Haha. To be honest this was the only song I would skip on their Conqueror album... but they performed it live at Line Cube Shibuya on V-Day last year (where their live videos come from)... and it was sooooooo gooood. They really are a live band. The Akane-MISA drum/bass section before the solo was amazing. And yeah Manners might have taken some ideas from here but left this song in the dust. So we mention the legendary producer Tony Visconti. He basically produced this song for them... and we don’t know exactly what the girls thought about it other than the amazing learning opportunity presented to them. What is almost without argument is that they went on to do 2 other songs completely on their own inspired by this one - Flying High and Manners - and those 2 songs are way better according to the vast majority of listeners.

@@dicodec from wikipedia "His first hit single was T. Rex's "Ride a White Swan" in 1970, the first of many hits in collaboration with Marc Bolan. Visconti's lengthiest involvement was with David Bowie: intermittently from the production and arrangement of Bowie's 1968 single "In the Heat of the Morning" / "London Bye Ta-Ta" to the 2016 release Blackstar, Visconti produced and occasionally performed on many of Bowie's albums.[3] Visconti's work on Blackstar was cited in its Grammy Award for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical and his production of Angelique Kidjo's Djin Djin was cited in its Grammy Award for Best Contemporary World Music Album. One of his first production projects in England was with the British outfit Tyrannosaurus Rex (later to become T. Rex) on their debut album My People Were Fair and Had Sky in Their Hair... But Now They're Content to Wear Stars on Their Brows (1968). This began a relationship with T. Rex that would last for their next eight albums, and eleven UK Top Ten singles in a row, commencing with "Ride a White Swan" (1970). One of Visconti's greatest successes was Electric Warrior (1971), the album that made T. Rex frontman Marc Bolan a superstar and cemented Visconti's producing prowess. More early production work included David Bowie's second album (1969), and for the Welsh group The Iveys (later known as Badfinger). He produced several tracks for the Iveys' first LP Maybe Tomorrow (1969) and Magic Christian Music (1970), released on The Beatles' Apple label. He produced the first two albums by influential progressive rock band Gentle Giant. Shortly afterwards, Visconti began to work again with David Bowie and, along with guitarist Mick Ronson and drummer John Cambridge, formed and toured with the band The Hype in which he played bass. Although the band name would be very short-lived, most of the line-up persisted and - with Woody Woodmansey replacing Cambridge - would go on to record the seminal album and single The Man Who Sold the World in 1970.[3][7] He would further go on to work on the albums Diamond Dogs (1974), Young Americans (1975), Low (1977), "Heroes" (1977), Lodger (1979), Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps) (1980), Heathen (2002), Reality (2003), The Next Day (2013) and Blackstar (2016). Visconti scored the orchestral arrangements for Paul McCartney and Wings' 1973 album Band on the Run. He later produced two albums for the Moody Blues, The Other Side of Life (1986), and Sur La Mer (1988). In 1990, he produced several tracks on the Moody Blues' Keys of the Kingdom album (1991), Luscious Jackson's Electric Honey, Leisure Noise by Gay Dad, Soul Caddy for Cherry Poppin' Daddies and Dawn of Ananda for Annie Haslam. In 1997, Visconti produced the debut album of The Stone Roses member John Squire's new band, The Seahorses entitled Do It Yourself. In the 2000s Visconti renewed his association with David Bowie, producing the albums Heathen in 2002, and Reality in 2003. He produced and played bass on a handful of tracks from The Dandy Warhols 2003 album Welcome to the Monkey House. In 2003 he teamed up with the Finn Brothers (Neil and Tim of Crowded House and Split Enz fame) to record and produce their second collaborative album, eventually released in 2004. In 2004, he produced three songs on the Manic Street Preachers album Lifeblood. In 2005, he collaborated with Copenhagen band Kashmir, whose fifth album, No Balance Palace, featured David Bowie. He has also collaborated as co-writer and producer on the album project by Richard Barone. He worked in Rome and produced the #1 UK album by Morrissey, Ringleader of the Tormentors. In 2007 and 2008, Visconti was very active in the studio with Benin singer Angélique Kidjo, producing her Grammy-winning album Djin Djin. Guests artists include Alicia Keys, Peter Gabriel, Joss Stone, Josh Groban and Carlos Santana. He has also produced two albums at Saint Claire Recording Studio in Lexington, Kentucky: The Bright Lights of America by Pittsburgh punk band Anti-Flag and an album by Alejandro Escovedo called Real Animal released in June 2008. He produced the new No. 1 album (in France) by French artist Raphael in Paris and New York. He produced and mixed Kristeen Young album Music for Strippers, Hookers, and the Odd On-Looker, released in 2009 and arranged Fall Out Boy album Folie à Deux. 2010 marked the release of Richard Barone's Visconti-produced Glow album,[9] which includes five songs co-written with Barone and a remake of T. Rex's Girl. He also played bass, guitar, synth, and Stylophone on the album and performed live in concert with Barone on numerous occasions. Visconti produced the David Bowie album, The Next Day, and remixed and remastered both The Slider anniversary box set and Electric Warrior 40th anniversary boxed set by T. Rex. In 2013, he produced Solar Secrets by Capsula.[10] In 2014 Visconti produced and arranged several tracks on Marc Almond's album The Dancing Marquis. Almond has wanted to work with Visconti since hearing some of Visconti's earliest production work with T-Rex and David Bowie, stating "It was a dream to work with Tony".[11] In 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 Tony Visconti was a Jury member of the ANCHOR-Award linked to the Reeperbahn Festival. Visconti produced Bowie's final album, Blackstar, released on January 8, 2016.[12] In 2018, Visconti produced Evil Spirits for The Damned; their first album in 10 years. He also produced Merrie Land the new album by The Good, the Bad & the Queen (2018)."

The only thing I don’t like about this is the second verse of the lyrics, like Why?! I can excuse a lyricist who’s not a native English speaker coz its often a translation or cultural appropriation issue. But to be fluent and a native speaker at that, to write something so cringey and out of context sht like that boggles my mind. Or maybe he did that coz they’re Japanese anyways so whatever, you know Engrish right? That makes it even worse. Look at what Miku did with “Manners”. She can hardly speak some broken English but still managed to even do some nice wordplays while still keeping everything aligned with the overall message and attitude of the song. This is probably why I absolutely loved the live version of this coz I could hear less of that thanks to Saiki’s beautiful accent 🤣 No, seriously I really do like her accent. Sounds weirdly sexy to me. Its half the reason I keep replaying Black hole.

I thought this song sounded awesome at online live in December, but now that manners is out, I gotta say sorry to Tony Visconti. Manners is more interesting and exciting. But I think it's also because with English lyrics, it has the different rhythm and groove. Japanese language has this percussive quality to it and it's an essential part of ''b-m sound'' imo. Remember the German band Scorpion? I listened to one of their songs that was sung in German ages ago which sounded so chunky and heavy because of the tone and the rhythm of German. But once they became popular internationally and started singing in English with less accent, they somehow lost their edge. I listened to their other song with English lyrics and they sounded like any 80s metal bands. The same happened to 80s Japanese metal band Loudness. They sounded exactly like a generic 80s metal band. TDC is a undoubtedly great song but sounds too much like mainstream 70s hard rock.

The song is not a political statemen t, but the video sure as hell is. They didn't write the lyrics, though, so who really knows? The saving grace of this song is that Kanami did the music and the band executed it perfectly.

People confuse political with environmental because politicians use and bend environmental issues for their own agenda.

how environmental problems could ever be political is beyhond me,,and i dont just mean your statement but world wide people on the right dismiss them for some reason,,,its not and should not be a political subject,,,the fact is we have and are destroying and poisoning the planet full stop,,,in 50yrs it wont matter your politics we will be fucked anyway

@@billrand4138 you’re right, the environment matters to all of us, and we are destroying our world if we don’t pull our heads out of the sand. I realized thar I hadn’t finished my thoughts after I hit send, but I fell back asleep before I got to edit my comment.

The video makes this song very hard to enjoy. I get what the message is saying, but, man, I would rather the video be tied to either a sad-sounding song or an angry-sounding song. As it is, I just want to groove . . . and that's very hard with that imagery. Sonically, this and "Manners" are very similar, with that old school groovy sound. Love 'em both.

I love this song, but not the video that much. A little too political in the vid, but doesn't detract from the awesomeness of the song! I know some think we are killing the planet, but we hear and see that all the time, I don't listen to music for that. Music is an escape from that reality of life. Love Band-Maid, for sure!
