Thrill is the song they decided to work as a hard rock band. Until then, their genre was undecided and their popularity was sluggish. The video shows the band's early appearance. Saiki is also a maid costume. Misa is playing a 4-string bass. Akane's drum kit is minimal. Kobato had just begun to carry a guitar and she could hardly play yet. But their great playing energy and grooves are already there and are early masterpieces.

Considering when the song came out and the stage the band was at that point that was a really fair score. We're lucky this song went viral or we might not of gotten all the songs we love more than this.

I was expecting a mid to high 7 on this one. It’s definitely a good song but compared to their later works it’s not as strong.

There was a good cell phone video from Dallas of them playing this live. They sounded great. It's not their best, but it's 7 or 8 years old and was their first video. Miku didn't even know how to play guitar back then. She learned on the job.

This was their first ever music video. It's so early in the band's history that a) Miku Kobato, who didn't play an instrument before starting the band, was still holding her looks-like-a-Rickenbacker like a prop, and b) bassist MISA is still wearing shoes and a regular maid costume.

I really like the bass solo, that is something you don't get to hear often enough from most bands in song. You get it if they do a member introduction and that is really about it for most bands.

I saw them live in San Francisco in 2018 and yes, Thrill is even better live. Especially since Miku had learned to play the rhythm guitar and it wasn't just a semi expensive necklace as it was here LOL

Cool reactionI agree with your review and very fair score! also I agree that they have some RHCP vibes from some of their songs. I remember seeing a video of them jamming to a RHCP song at the start of one of their concerts lol, they seem to like them. This btw was their first music video. The thing about this song though is the band only did the arrangement and performance of the song, they didn't write this one and some other songs on that album, so you might notice some early songs sound different to what they actually sound like in term of songwriting. I am glad you gave it a good score, because for some reason i saw many comments on KZbin where people do not rate this song high compared to their later tracks. I saw all of their portfolio on KZbin and for for me - this one is a REALLY good song, one of my favorites from them, and i personally can not see how can this be viewed as sort of "beginner level". I really dig the groove and the solidness of Thrill and for me its not a "beginner" level. I think this track doesnt need any "excuses" like, oh, its the 1st vid they recorded... Well - no prob for me. No matter if its a 1st vid - this is a championship attempt. Glad you liked it!

A live version of this will be on their new DVD coming out towards the end of May. I saw the stream of the concert live, and it sounded pretty good, but if I recall correctly it seems like the guitars were a little low in the mix. I'm very curious to hear what it sounds like after a good mix is applied to it for the DVD.

BAND-MAID on training wheels. A great introductory song. Live videos for Real Existence and Choose Me , MVs for Warning!, Manners, Rinne and Blooming are 🔥. BAND-MAID is very lax with their videos so you shouldn't have any problems.

Here is some professionally shot concert footage from various small Shibuya venues. It was done for J-rock news and has excerpts from a half dozen songs starting with Thrill. (most of which they no longer play). It was right after the Thrill video started getting air play. Nope. It's totally a Band-Maid feel. In fact, Thrill is part of a new, huge scoping rock genre simply known as... Band-Maid... or sometimes called, Maid Genre. And as for your 8.4 score... yeah, well... we'll see, 'cause Band-Maid's gonna test YOU. Come on. We know you can do better. It was a good reaction, but will we watch you again? It wasn't exactly hard hitting but it was creeping up on the MOR (Middle of the Road) scale. I think we'd be willing to give you another shot. Good one David. This being their first MV 7 years ago that's a fair score. I think you know by now that Band-Maid's rhythm section is top notch, even back then. They've exponentially improved since. When you get to Warning! you'll see.

Sweet Reaction Dude! They released that 8 years ago. So much more dynamic now. Still good. This is the only video where you'll see Misa(bass) in a maid uniform and heals. She usually plays barefoot. One of the reasons she is the Silent Assassin. Plus she rarely speaks. And not even a top 20 of Band Maid. But its got the most views. Thanks Brother!😊🤘😎

I think this song and Rinne are the only 2 songs Band Maid haven't bettered live.... that we have heard. In early days Miku was still learning from Kanami and the singer was having throat problem. After her throat drastically improved , they had written a heap of new stuff and this song , being one not fully written by the band seemed to dissapear from the sey list. Plus the band had developed so much with better all self written songs. However this was the song that first broke them in UK on you tube. Fair score i think.

Their first video! Like many people it was the first song i ever heard from them. I was hooked on the spot. They have evolved so much since then. and they dont show any signs of slowing down! 8.4 is a great score, especially considering this was their first music video! Thanks David! 😀

a lot of fans(including myself) first song heard by them.. as many have said its an old song, not written by them but it was the beginning of the journey to were they are now..incidentally it was this song going viral in the west that kept the band together a sort of last ditch effort that went t 2 million views almost overnight..and im so glad it did.. i seen this performed live in japan in 2016 and it was better and again in their most recent online concert and it was still as amazing..also if your interested they will be performing an online live concert on may 10 "day of the maid" details on their website :D

Been a while I have seen your videos. Great reaction on Band-Maid, also do not worry about copyright claims from Band-Maid. They just do not take any action because they want their music to be heard and reachable by everyone around the world. And answering your question if life does sound better, the answer is yes. In their live concert, they did a rewind of their music hits from the past 8 years. So Thrill was the first one on the list and it was ... magnific, amazing, so much "wow" !! You can also listen to some faster tracks made by Band-Maid, such as Rinne or Different that can be found on KZbin ;)

I requested you reacted to this as it was their break through music video and their first release. In Japan, this song and video did not sell well and had it not been for it's international success through KZbin, Band Maid, were considering packing up. Glad you gave it a good score. In their early days the music was written for them but arranged by Kanami, lead guitar and I think Miku, rhythm guitar. For a long time, they wanted to release their own material and I think when they changed labels, this took place. Consequently, they have become a far more sophisticated band in the writing style and arrangements. I am torn between the earlier pop rock tunes and the later greater rock style material. For me the later material borders on over production, particularly with the vocal track. Thank you for your reaction.

There are no good live recordings of this song as far as I know, and you are right! This song is very much depending on a good sound/mix and the live recordings I have heard are...well, let's say IMHO it's one of the very few songs that sound better as a studio version. Some phone recording give a brutal garage band sound that can be appealing, but it almost sounds like another song then.

I think it's a great song, however it's not their best it's actually one of their first, they didn't even write the song also Miku didn't even know how to play rhythm guitar yet it was their entry to see if they could make it as a band and luckily millions of people loved the song and it got them their start so then they could write their own songs and now Miku can play rhythm guitar so their music just keeps getting better.

How many guitars do you see? And how many do you hear? I would say two and one. Except for the guitar solo, where you heard another guitar. But, it is probably not the singer that plays it. Because she cannot play guitar .... yet. It is just a prop in this song. But she will learn.
