For a bit of context, a maiko is an apprentice geisha whose job is to serve people, mainly doing dances. The games they are playing are traditional drinking games for interaction with customers. During those days, the guests are usually entertained by the ladies by dancing or playing their instruments. You also see them eating because, well, they get hungry too.

A few easter eggs - This was a 2018 April Fool's joke by BM that became a runaway success and resulted in a mini album. MISA usually performs barefoot and doesn't sing but wears sandals and howls in this video. Akane not wasting time eating is a nod to her insatiable appetite for noodles. Parts of this song's lyrics were altered from Secret My Lips to reflect Japan's Kyoto dialect (where geishas originated). MISA and Kanami do a synchronized rock pose after Saiki finishes her slow verse.

If I remember correctly, the April's Fool joke was that they "announced" they were going to drop the Hard Rock/Metal stuff and change the band's style to traditional Japanese music.

The caligraphy that Miku writes in the begining translates as 'World Domination' which is Band Maid's goal. Band Maiko was so well received, even though it was originally created by the maids as an April fool, that they made a 9 song EP. Eight of the songs are re-works of Band Maid songs and one original Band Maiko track which is called 'Gion Cho' and has a video and some of the best harmonies that they have done, gives me chills everytime I hear it, well worth a watch.

Band-Maiko is the awesome flip side of the awesome coin that is Band-Maid! "GION-CHO" is the only true original song from Band-Maiko, and it's awesome! At the start Miku writes "World Domination". A Maiko is a apprentice Geisha.

If you liked this video, you will LOVE "Gion-Cho". It was the one that was original and not adapted from previous songs. The video itself is a work of art and already a classic. It's hard to describe the setting and work put in to create such an amazing video. There's a "making of" video on YT and it is extremely interesting to watch. The lyrics are just magnificent and the ladies look amazing. Saiki in particular is just luminous and so striking. There was a lot of attention to detail, especially the lyrics Miku wrote are in the dialect particular to Kyoto, the ancestral home of the geisha culture. Words cannot describe how great the video is. After watching "Gion-Cho" I kind of went down the rabbit hole of geisha culture and found so many interesting things. The costumes the ladies are wearing are the barest minimum because the silk brocade is so heavy. A traditional geisha costume consists of seven layers of clothing that can weigh up to 35 pounds, with an obi, or sash, that is pulled as tight as any corset. From what I could tell the ladies are wearing two or three layers that have to weigh 15-20 pounds each. And if you look at the videos closely, you will see that they don't raise their arms very much because of the weight of the sleeves. Akane had to take frequent breaks during filming for that reason. That alone shows how much they put into this video physically and emotionally. It is a true masterpiece.

The two first kanji Miku wrote spelled 世界 sekai which means world. I could not see the rest of them, but I heard somebody else comment that she wrote world domination

Very nice blast from the past, very nice indeed with your two smiling faces. If you have not had the chance to check out the latest, ZEN, a single new song from the anime, ZENSHU. My favorite Band Maid song is the last one I heard, of course, but this time... it may be for reals. Zen may well be their masterpiece of masterpieces.

SAIKI (sigh-kee) Lead vocals and front man. “The Ice Queen”. (She’s also the team mom). KANAMI (kah-nah-mee) Lead guitar. A classically trained musician, she composes and arranges all the music. “Mincho” MISA (mee-sah) Bass. The band’s secret weapon. Most bassists don’t stand out. “The Barefoot Assassin” does. AKANE (ah-kah-neh) The smiling drummer is “The Gorilla” and she is the other half of one of the best rhythm sections anywhere.
