Hey Stevie! I have some hamster tips for you! 1. Get hammy out of the critter trail cage and get him a DIY bin cage or buy a glass tank for him instead, the critter trail cages are very bad for the hamster's health and since there isn't enough space for them to roam, there are better chances of him dying. 2. Feed him a good diet including seeds, nuts, preferably dried fruit and plenty of nutrition. 3. Give him some roaming time to get out of his cage and run around. It is not suggested to get a hamster ball, because it could tire them out too easily. Hamsters have to be very strong to use them. Instead, get him a play pen so he doesnt escape and put him in an open space, or you can empty out a whole room for him to roam in. 4. Get him at least an 8 inch hamster wheel, and not with wires. If the wheel is too small it could arch his back and eventually break his spine. The wired wheels can give the hamsters a foot disease, and it is deadly. 5. If you get another hamster, put it in a different cage. Hamsters are solitary animals and get violent with another of their species, eventually leading to death. Hammy always lurking around the bars isn't normal it's a bit of a sign that he's stressed I recommend a 600 sq inch cage it may sound like a lot but it would be a good help for your hamster

Stevie! That hamster cage and wheel is so unsuitable for hamsters! The minimum cage size for hamsters is 800 square inches of floorspace. I think that’s a 6 inch wheel and Syrians require at least a 10 or 12 inch wheel. Please like this so he and his hamster can see! :) edit 3/29: I am still a huge fan of Steve. I’m not hating on him personally because of a hamster, I am simply just worried about it’s well-being. people are allowed to make mistakes, as long as they chose to learn from them and to better themselves from them. I’m not demanding he change his ways or threatening him. Just requesting a little more research be done. If you don’t want to hear it from me, there are tons of other way more qualified people to listen to. Channels like Victoria Rachel and Munchie’s Place are great for hamster educational videos. Hey, I just want to let you know that your hamster’s cage in the background isn’t actually suitable for hamsters! Hamsters need a minimum of 450 square inches of continuous floorspace (in the U.S. and Canada i believe , cage requirements vary depending on where you are) so equal to a 40 gallon breeder tank. Hamsters are also burrowers, and they need at least 6 inches of bedding, however some people would even recommend 10 inches of bedding. Safe hamster beddings include Aspen, paper, and hemp. I’d recommend adding some soft hays such as botanical or orchard grass hay as they make burrows more stable too (i personally use a mix of orchard grass hay, aspen bedding, and paper bedding). For bedding brands I’d recommend Carefresh or kaytee clean & cozy. Hamsters also need at least an 8 inch wheel, MAYBE a 7 inch for a dwarf hamster. Too small a wheel can cause a lot of back problems for your hamster. Also, wire and mesh wheels are not safe for hamsters, as they can cause a foot infection called bumblefoot. Hamster diets are also pretty specific so I’d recommend looking into that. The best commercial diet is 50% higgins sunburst and 50% mazuri rat and mouse. Fruits and veggies are also a staple in hamster diets so look into what fruits and veggies are safe! Hamsters shouldn’t be feed every day btw, feeding 2 tablespoons every 2-3 days is ideal. Anyways, I hope this helps! Taking care of pets properly is super important!! Edit: Also, including a lot of hideouts for your hamster is super important to make them feel safe. Hamsters also have evergrowing teeth so they need a lot of chew toys so they’re teeth don’t get overgrown. Another Edit: Some cheap options for big enclosures include bin cages and/or an ikea detolf cage. Bin cages are super easy to make. All you have to do is take the lid off, cut a hole, and staple some mesh. And for an ikea detolf cage you just buy and build an ikea detolf and put it on its side, except for the shelves and door. An ikea kallax also fits an ikea detolf almost perfectly on top. You would have to make your own lid for an ikea detolf cage though, but they’re pretty easy to make! Edit 3 (i keep thinking of more stuff): For cleaning, you should spot clean the enclosure at least once a week, with a full clean out every month. You should always keep some of the old bedding though whenever you clean so that way the hamster recognizes the scent of the enclosure and isn’t stressed. Sand baths are also super important for hamsters, as sand is the only way they can bath. Hamsters CANNOT be bathed in water. Safe sands include reptisand, chinchilla bath sand (not bath dust, dust like that can cause respiratory illness for hamsters), and children’s play sand.
