Band of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards - The Green Hills of Tyrol

The tune, "The Green Hills of Tyrol", is a well-known melody in the Scottish bagpipe tradition and was transcribed by John MacLeod during the Crimean War from "La Tua Danza Sì Leggiera", a chorus part in the third act of Gioachino Rossini's 1829 opera Guglielmo Tell (William Tell). Rossini reportedly adapted that tune from Alpine folk music.
Incidentally the song was also the entrance theme of professional wrestler "Rowdy" Roddy Piper.

There is something about Scottish bagpiper music, which inspires me motivates me to push a little bit further and squeeze that last ounce of energy left. First bagpipe music heard was *Auld lang syne*, military style. I guess bagpipe has inspired many since the generation of Jack Churchill.

Played by the Sutherland Highlanders - the original Thin Red Line - in Balaclava. A battle where the Scots were ordered to 'die where they stood' and they did. Possibly the best feat of bravery in European military history.

Tyrol was devided after WWII so it means both! It's interesting he used "green hills" because there are basically no hills in Tyrol, only mountains..
