If Hampton isn't going to increase their numbers, the quality and sound needs to be on point. Maybe they need new direction? Need more discipline. Not sure, but I want my people to look sharp out there. Good efforts all around, but NSU got this one.

Hampton has took a step backwards from last couple of years. Their sound quality is not there. I wish you well with getting your numbers back up.

Yes. I was disappointed they were smaller this year. I was proud of them when they were featured last year (2021) in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.

As a former member of the Force from ‘82-‘86, I’m also a little disappointed that the numbers didn’t increase. However, when you’re having students and their parents deciding whether they can afford an annual tuition north of$30,000 or go to a public school which is considerably affordable, it’s hard to compete and keep kids at HU. Impressed with NSU.

@@Hampton86as someone who marched in the Force and left to go a more affordable public school in the late 2000s, I agree with you to a certain extent. However, the musicianship has to be there whether there are 50 people or 200. The Hate on Me performance sounded like there was one trumpet and they still couldn’t hit the notes. Rehearsals are there for a reason, if it doesn’t work in that octave, it needs to be lower (or voiced differently within the ensemble) to produce a cohesive sound that is in tune. This is the package people see when they look at band programs to take part in. Yes it can difficult to recruit the same caliber of musicians at say Morehouse or Howard than it would be at FAMU or AT&T, but there is not much you can do about that. Just work with what you have. Even if students have means, they won’t come if the product is not consistent. Musical excellence is non-negotiable.

As a graduate of Howard University and NC A&T State University, I’ll add this: Whether you are a fan of either school it’s always our own people that continue to bring each other down. It takes hard work across the board for all parties involved! Not to mentioned, Hampton also took to the field without their Dir of Bands who is away on drill in the US Army defending us and our great country. People always look at the glass half-full. Remember, your individual definition of “greatness” is just that, your own version. At the end, both band programs did great especially given the amount of time and dedication it takes to put on a show in general. We should be congratulating both band programs however, I digress. Speedy recovery to the Captain of Ebony Fire. #ThatIsAll #Period and #OnGod

LOL this is nothing. This rivalry goes back decades and the trash talk used to be brutal. The bands used to trash talk on the field during the dance routines. Nothing that you typed has anything with the end product on the field. As a graduate of Howard you should be used to the trash talk about who is the real HU. Lighten up. One of Hampton's drummers put up their middle finger during their drum block and their drum majors called NSU Behold the Green and Mold a week prior to this matchup while their director was away defending our country.

The Legion will just be in a class all its own. This is my first time seeing a Legion field performance without the Earth shattering fanfare opening their drill piece, the soft slow it down cadence before the ballad, and Method in my Music leading to the dance routine all in one show.

NSU LEGION has always been one of my favs! Still is. But it would be nice to have those powerful, intricate, ear stopping opening fanfares again. The first song should wow and captivate; this “Johnny Gill” intro just wasn’t it for me. (Dizziacs merked it tho 😮‍💨 🎺)
