Hi Bob, Lovebites released a live video of Hammer of Wrath yesterday. 1st live footage of Fami, from their March show. Not a new song but the Fami dynamic is magical...her constant smile really raised the level of performance imho. 3:27, Asami / Fami lock eyes/ smiles during Fami's solo. One of the greatest mother-daughter type moments if you ask me. Hope to see you react to it. Hope all is well, Dave.

Please keep up the good work LOVEBITES. About "Glory To The World" guitarist Midori and Vocalist Asami says of the song. When Midori came to the U.S. and between tours in the U.K., Midori found time to visit his local church many times. It was then that Midori strongly felt the power of church music and the energy of the people. When she composed and arranged "Glory To The World," Midori made it into a powerful song. In an interview for a magazine project, Midori commented, "The world is going through a difficult time right now, and I hope this song can push people back. LOVEBITES was also in a difficult situation where they could not hold live concerts, but Asami went directly to the members' homes to get hints on how to write lyrics. And Asami commented, "Member all felt that we wanted to write lyrics and songs that would be close to the feelings of various people. Asami and Midori both have experience singing gospel songs in church, so their senses matched. P.S. The location is a wedding hall in Japan. Occasionally used for shooting music videos.

I absolutely agree with you, these women play notes in such a short time that ChatGPT itself would have trouble counting them at the same time - maybe! Haruna is for me - I just like playing drums - an energy gun like no other, she plays at minimum 1 1/2 hour concerts consistently with such an intensity, this is unlikely, inspiring and just fantastic to watch (and hear) - I had that Lucky to hear Lovebites for the first time in 2018 at the Wacken Rock Festival - it was an unlikely awakening experience for my friends and I - these rather petite 5 women hammered a power metal on stage that made the audience (listeners) voices in their heads necks stuck - in a quality and serenity - you have to have been there! Back then, Lovebites was the first band ever from Asia and at the same time the first all-female band at the Wacken Rock Festival.

Great reaction/review. I've really been narrowing down the reactors I watch to people like you, who are actual, knowledgeable musicians, just because you're able to break down what's happening instead of just going, "OH WOW!" These ladies in Lovebites are just head and shoulders above most anybody else out there right now. This particular song/video was my introduction to the band a couple years ago, and I've been hooked ever since! As a bass player myself, one of the first things I noticed was Miho playing fingerstyle at this tempo. Most metal bass players would be using a pick at these speeds.
@bobcieslinski Жыл бұрын
Hey Rik! Thanks for the kind words! You are totally right about Miho. Finger style was incredible and so unexpected for this style of music. The style always uses a pick just making it easier to play faster. Finger style was a mind blower here. That’s really cool that you are a bass player.

Hey Bob. Put all the 80's metal bands in a blender and what does it churn out? Lovebites. Their music is mesmerising! Unexpected pitch changes chromatic changes and tempo changes are masterful. Haruna is a pocket rocket and Miho, on bass, keep the pace while Midori and Miakyo must be connected through telepathy! They constantly practice together. They are all masters of their craft. Asami's voice is incredible. she is also a trained ballet dancer and former blues singer. Studio or live there's nothing in it. Great reaction. Have a great weekend.

This was written by Midori. That dual guitar section is just a taste of what they do on the new CD track called "Victim of Time". The entire long solo section is dual and Haruna is being a beast in there. Probably the most insane dual guitar stuff they have done. This song IMO is one of Haruna's finest. Midori published an outtake from this video shoot where she was rocking out and an earring fell into her, um, upper chest area. This church, at least the interior, is an actual church though I don’t think services are held there. I think it’s mostly a wedding chapel. Aldious, Galneryus, and Unlucky Morpheus have all filmed videos there (and others, I’m sure). Lastly, shout out to Miho playing right along with everything Midori, Miyako, and Haruna are doing. I’ve always thought she was underrated.

Great reaction as always Bob! I completely agree with you about Haruna, she is absolutely insane, as the reactor David Heretic says she has "calves made of titanium" lol. There's a fill she does in the new song Soldier Stands Solitarily that is one of the greatest drum fills I've ever heard. I like the way you described Asami's vocals as "floating" over the wall of sound accompanying her cuz obviously the instrumental music is fast and frantic and her voice always sounds smooth over it. There's another song on this EP called Dystopia Symphony that was composed by Miyako and is one of my favorite songs of theirs that they have yet to play live.
@dregeye Жыл бұрын
@kirk, "Dystopia Symphony" was performed LIVE at their final show of 2021 in Osaka, in place of "Spellbound" but no recording of that performance has been make available, (yet?) They also added "Bravehearted" (Haruna's composition, music & lyrics) as the last song of the encore for that show. There will be a live-stream "The Shining Vol. II" on May 11th for "club members" (membership is under 5 US$/mo) I've no idea what might happen at that event (the live-attendance is sold-out) but stream still available, I think. I would LOVE to see/hear them perform all 3 GGttW songs not yet available LIVE. "No Time To Hesitate" "Paranoia" (!) "Dystopia Symphony" would be awesome, but we still wait for all the "Judgement Day" songs too. I heard/read that there was recording equipment seen so maybe "Judgement Day" and "Stand And Deliver" LIVE will be released at some point... I just can't get enough, even though I have not 'fully digested' any of their fantastic songs, yet, and I 'work on that' everyday since June 2020!

Love your reactions Bob. The album Judgement Day makes this song seem almost pedestrian. There are 4 tracks that are feasts of speed playing, yet melodic at the same time. Fun fact…listen to the “orchestral” intro to Glory to the World, and see if you spot what surely has to be a deliberate passage of the classic Bond theme playing us into the sudden drop.

When I first heard this song I saw "Lord of the Rings" the segment Where Aragorn sees his future wife Arwen Evenstar in a dream and sees his son running in the forest. This song was composed by Midori and Asami the lyrics, Midori traveled to England and the USA and visited churches and she got inspired in what she saw from those who worshipped and sang songs. There are religious overtones and the guy maybe represents either Christ coming back or stigmata. I remember how much you enjoyed your first Lovebites song "Swan Song" with the Chopin intro, how about another classic intro but with Rachmaninov in their song Empty Daydream kzbin.info/www/bejne/oonLkKiDgp5noLc

This song (and the Glory, Glory, to the World EP) came out during the height of COVID back in 2021. The message of the song is for hope in trying times. Yes, there are some religious overtones only because when Midori was in the US, she went to some churches just to listen to gospel music. She liked it and when she composed this track, she incorporated some gospel music elements into it. It's important to note that Lovebites is not a religious band.

I have to be honest. I HATE the term "video game" or "anime" being attached to any of these ladies. Be it Lovebites, Band-Maid, Nemophila, whichever. It honestly feels lazy to me (and yes I know several have contributed themes to Anime, and anime is big in their culture). But I guarantee if the as a US or EU band? We'd be hearing the term "Sound Track" or the like. Because it is very dramatic and theatrical. But every time I hear "video game/anime" attached to a Japanese Band automatically I do cringe a bit. Don't think it's an intentional thing, I think it's just largely a western sub conscious thing where we we always link them to other "japanese" things, instead of treating it as part of the broader "spectacle" that they are. As fans, I think wee owe it to these bands and women to go beyond the easy boxes to pigeonhole them into. It just comes across as a slight (and unintentional) diminishment of their reach and scope, IMO. And also kind of plays into the stereotypes promoted by the folk who do want to easily dismiss them. 🤷
@bobcieslinski5 ай бұрын
I watch some anime so if I said anything about it believe me it was meant in the best light possible. Music like that along with soundtracks really don’t get their due.
