Does Bandai normally have this level of detail? I own the 2016 Godzilla 2000. the one that looks more screen accurate. that figure aside from the limited articulation looks like it could pass as a NECA figure. these look more like kiddie toys. which is fine but are there only certain ones that have higher levels of detail?

Bandai has fallen off, The G2000 was a rerelease of the old sculpt. The new sculpts Bandai releases are either too small with minimum paint, or just terribly sculpted. It's occurred in their Ultra and Kamen lines as well.

I’m kinda glad I passed on these. Man, I used to adore Bandai vinyls, and I know I’ll sound like a boomer but, I feel like there was more of an effort in them when I used to collect and play with them as a kid. The Movie Monsters Series was a force to be reckoned with in the early 2000s. Simple as they were, they got really clever with how they handled the paint to really accent the details in the sculpt. Highlights, fades, shadows, sprays, metallics, they had it all. But these guys, and it’s not just these guys, but a few of the new figures and the re-paints, man, they’re just really flat looking with their paint compared to previous efforts and it does a disservice I think to the sculpting work. Ghidorah is a prime example here. He’s a lot more detailed than I initially thought, but all that great detail is hidden and his paint job is just kind of a flat, lackluster yellow gold. Great review though! Love your style of review and humor, it’s really fun and fresh.

The orginal concept designs for Ghidorah had a mane but they changed it becuase it probably messed with look of this version of Ghidorah and the mane probably would've phased through the horns.

I still have the same figures i bought in 2004 that are part of the movie momster series. I thought they would go up in value but i looked online and they go for 20 bucks. I remember they were like 50 at the time. Does anyone know why this is? Like for example biollante was a rare figure that went for over 100 dollars now its 25 bucks.

The Bandai Movie Monster Series From 2014 onwards are mostly reissues or new sculpts being released from Bandai. The Biollante you’re seeing is more than likely the new sculpt that was released last year. Fluctuating prices are common, but certain figures will always command a high price.. like.. Megalon or Jet Jaguar or the 1955 Godzilla. You might be picking up on the newer ones, or maybe the elder ones just aren’t selling and sellers are giving in and lowering their prices.

Yeah, Jakks Certainly had a leg up on Bandai with articulation... and in some cases paint too. Shame the American Tie In figures seem to get the shit end. At least this go around.

My thoughts on these figures: Godzilla: Pretty good King Ghidorah: A Jakks Pacific remake, but legs are a bit thicker, and body is bigger, so that's a plus Mothra: Looks decent, AT LEAST IT'S THE ONLY 2019 MOTHRA FIGURE THAT GETS THE HEAD COLOR RIGHT!!! Because other figures never did what the trailers showed us, I know that SHMA's Mothra might have minor changes Rodan: Good lord, it looks terrible, this is by far part of the top 3 worst Godzilla figure to ever exist, alongside the NECA Godzilla 1984 (they said 1985, cause they are confused) and that Bandai Hedorah figure.
