Great speaker with lots of helpful information to spread around. Not sure why viewers feel the need to bash this photographer. In my eyes, photography is exactly like other forms of visual art; what may look great to someone may look not so great to someone else. Keep the negative comments to yourselves and everyone will be happy :D.

i think every one start as no pro, this is a really good experience for people not pro who feel overwhelmed from pros telling them they dont worth, if you like what you do and want to share your experience go a head, this guy is telling what and how he does it, bad comments come from people how think are better but cant achieve much...

With all of the negative comments, I see no videos from the negative commenters that demonstrate outstanding night photography shots with explanations. If the negative commenters are that much better then it would be nice if they would demonstrate their photographic ability rather than their negative comments. As the old saying goes; It is better to appear stupid than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt. I think that "Night Photography: From Snapshots to Great Shots" is an outstanding video with lots of explanation.

just because people who are posting neg comments dont have any night photography tutorials posted on their you tube channel dosnt mean that they cant take good night shots or teach others to take good night shots... i think people are more disappointed in B&H for posting this video. The standard of the pictures are just not inspiring or even at times in focus... i actually feel bad for the guy as he has been lead like a lamb to the slaughter by B&H .... They should have been able to see that this guys work is just not at a standard good enough to be posted on this channel.

thewalrus1968 send in your superior work to B&H perhaps?? I see no other course of action unless of course you are just here to build up your own ego by trying to tear down someones work? I think the later is the more likely scenario here. It's easy to hide behind a computer and talk poorly about someones work (they livelihood even) but I highly doubt someone like yourself or any of you other clowns spewing your negativity across this helpful lecture would actually have the courage to speak your mind to this mans face.

Raevenswood i have no need or intention of sending my workshop tuition videos of my classes to B&H and have no need or intention to promote my business on this channel. I dont have any need for any ego building as im confident that my classes and workshops are very good and are always well attended. I just feel that a massive organisation like B&H should be providing better content. Yes i know its free and yes i fully understand from experience how hard it is to teach and inspire. A typical 1 hour workshop can take me up to 30 hours to prepare .. hard work indeed. On the last point , i would indeed have the courage to tell the man to his face as i feel actually sorry for him and would want to help him with honest constructive comments, knowing how hard it is to be an educator. Im more upset with B&H for not realizing that this guys material is just not good enough and have not had the professionalism and honesty to tell him and maybe help him to improve. He is a fellow photographer and educator and im more interested in helping him with honest comments than just dragging him down for the sake of it. We are all learning all the time and its a constant fight for us all to be better in our craft , a lifetime of learning.

at 1:10:28 when he talks about the focus going in and out when you take the shot....this is a good reason why everyone should use back button focus. Take the focusing off of the shutter button and use back button and problem is solved. Focus once and be done.

the things mentioned are "quite elementary" for a reason...look at the title "night photography: from snapshots to great shots". Many, many people (myself included) are amateur photographers, and these type of sessions are good starting points for ANYONE, whether very accomplished or not. Cut the guy some slack.

Good night photo tips, but do please try to be a little more careful about location names. I hear "Yellowstone" "Yosemite" all the time, but also, for example, Googling "Cholla Pinnacles" comes up with nada, zip, zero, maybe a housing development in Tucson. You mean Pinnacles National Park, maybe?

well ..on a positive note ...... ok so the negatives.... sorry Gabriel but your work just dosnt cut it for me .you seem like a nice guy... just nothing special or inspiring in any way ... they look like the shots i was taking when i first got a camera. Feel terrible saying these things but im so glad i watched this in case i had considered paying for one of your workshops ... near miss right there. Im just about to expand my photography company to include workshops. This video fills me confidence.

Chris Rocco first off , ive never claimed to be better as that would be pointless and presumptuous. That's not for me to say that's the job of my clients, customers and students and they do that by the fact that they attend in numbers and pay for my time, tuition and end product. All ive stated is an honest opinion that this workshop really wasnt good enough to be on the B&H channel and that i feel it was unfair of B&H to feed this man to the lions in such a public way. Its probably harmed the poor man's career rather than helped him. It is just my opinion and may not be one shared by you or others and thats fine. If i really believed you were genuinely interested i wouldn't hesitate to post up my website and also a link to videos of my workshops as i have nothing to be ashamed of and im happy and successful in my career but im afraid that isnt your motive is it. So to save you some "keyboard warrior" time i wont indulge you in this. Im constantly learning from other educators in a bid to improve as there are lots of great educators out there that i can learn from. That was the point of me watching this workshop in the first place. Ive expressed my opinion that im entitled to with respect and not in an arrogant or negative manner. Like it or not when you present your work to the public you have to be ready for some criticism or honest opinion as well as idiots just wanting to drag you down for no reason, im the former not the latter, It is the way of things and makes you better at what your doing.

I was not impressed by the photos he showed us, but then I realised he was aiming this lecture at the beginner he not there to show off but to teach. If he showed off his best a beginner might think he/she could achieve that easily and soon find they can't, they might then think they're not cut out for photography

I'm really sad to not saw any good and incredible pictures... i was thinking that i will be amazed by his picture but in fact no. The only thing that i can say is that taking a looooong exposure shot don't make a better pictures.... Most of his picture was blurry... without souls. Sorry but this time i just wast my time and i don't learn anythings from him. Sorry for the photographer. I didin't mean bad but i just try to search in trought your picture where is your 20 years in photography? Maybe you have a better skills for another style of photography. But the night photography is definitely not yours. I'm really sorry if i offend the photographer but i just share my feeling by watching this video. PS : Sorry for my bad english i'm not a native english speaker.

Borrowed his book with the same title from the library and in this video he goes right through his book. Regardless of this I found some nice bits of photography wisdom which I could use as well. I wish he wold go more advanced since like almost one hour of the seminar is rather too simple. I am pretty sure that even the public in the seminar room felt the same. The photos he displays in this video are the same in his book and some of them are simply taken to show a certain aspect he discusses but they are definitely not an art. And then he uses to many 'OK' and this irritates me since he seems to talk to people rather too patronizingly. Otherwise he seems to be a friendly person.
